Wikipedia: The Asian water monitor (Varanus salvator) is a large varanid lizard native to South and Southeast Asia. It is one of the most common monitor lizards in Asia, ranging from coastal northeast India, Sri Lanka, mainland Southeast Asia to Indonesian islands where it lives close to water.
Conservation status: Least Concern
This is similar to my previous shot at this spot but I took this as the sun was setting on Expedition Everest and this version is HDR from three bracketed exposures.
You definitely have to view this one large on black.

The Asian-American Garden was created in the mid 1960s on the area formerly know as the Bird Sanctuary, featuring Chinese and Japanese garden elements and hosting about 200 bird varieties.
The Asian Koel is a member of the cuckoo order of birds, the birds known as brood parasites that rely on others to raise their young. They are known to lay a single egg in the nests of a variety of birds, including the jungle crow, and house crow. They are unusual among the Cuckoos in being largely frugivorous as adults. The name Koel is echoic in origin and is a widely used symbol in Indian and Nepali poetry. The bird seen here is a female.
Incidentally this is the first shot of mine using the R10 coupled with the 300mm f/4 with Kenko 1.4x extension lens. Works like a charm with eye tracking working without a hitch.
Asian tiger mosquito, Aedes albopictus. An unwelcome invader, a real nuisance in the yard, garden, patio, deck. Kind of interesting looking, though...
It was morning time with sun just came out of clouds. This harmless snake provided a quick show and then disappeared into the grass.
Ahaetulla, commonly referred to as Asian vine snakes or Asian whip snakes, is a genus of colubrid snakes distributed throughout tropical Asia. They are considered by some scientists to be mildly venomous and are what is commonly termed as 'rear-fanged' or more appropriately, opisthoglyphous, meaning their enlarged teeth or fangs, intended to aid in venom delivery, are located in the back of the upper jaw, instead of in the front as they are in vipers or cobras. As colubrids, Ahaetulla do not possess a true venom gland or a sophisticated venom delivery system. The Duvernoy's gland of this genus, homologous to the venom gland of true venomous snakes, produces a secretion which, though not well studied, is considered not to be medically significant to humans. A young domestic water buffalo in the kind of habitat it is most comfortable in, knee deep water with plenty to eat. They are relatively small in size especially when compared to their ancestor, the Wild Water Buffalo that is sadly considered as an endangered animal with only about 3,400 individuals known to survive, of which 90% live in India. Millions of these animals exist and their milk is richer in fat and protein than that of dairy cattle. A large feral population became established in northern Australia in the late 19th century, and there are smaller feral herds in Papua New Guinea, Tunisia and northeastern Argentina. Two types of domesticated water buffaloes are recognized, the River Buffalo of the western Indian subcontinent; and the Swamp Buffalo. Results of a phylogenetic (evolutionary development) study indicate that the river-type water buffalo probably originated in western India and was domesticated about 6,300 years ago.
These are very docile and loyal animals known to even risk their life to save the life of their owner. I have even read of incidents where these buffalos charged at man-eating tigers to save their owners, even though physically they are no match for the predator.
