INDIEN, Itimad-ut-Daulah - Mausoleum
Das Itimad-ud-Daula-Mausoleum wurde in den Jahren zwischen 1622 und 1628 von Nur Jahan, der Hauptfrau des Mogulherrschers Jahangir, für ihren Vater Mirza Ghiyas Beg errichtet. Dieser stammte aus Persien und erhielt wegen seiner Verdienste als Schatzmeister und später als Wesir des Reiches den Ehrentitel Itimad ud-Daula („Stütze des Staates“). Mirza Ghiyas Beg war gleichzeitig Großvater des 5. Mogul-Herrschers Shah Jahan und von dessen Frau Mumtaz Mahal. Das vergleichsweise kleine, aber überaus kostbar ausgestattete Grabmal steht in Agra (Indien).
Kaziranga is a vast expanse of tall elephant grass, marshland, and dense tropical moist broadleaf forests, criss-crossed by four major rivers, including the Brahmaputra, and the park includes numerous small bodies of water. Kaziranga has been the theme of several books, songs, and documentaries. The park celebrated its centennial in 2005 after its establishment in 1905 as a reserve forest. (Wikipedia)

One of the trails through the forests of Kaziranga. You never know what youll find around the bend - birds, wetlands or even rhinos and elephants. A most amazing place.

Asian Adventures.
Last spring, I spotted these delicate little flowers on a neighbourhood walk and wasn't quite sure what they were. After a bit of research, I discovered they're Wild Tulips (Tulipa sylvestris). Not native to my area, I'm quite sure that the homeowner must have planted them as specimen plants. I don't know if they'll overwinter, so it'll be interesting to see if they appear next spring. If you're interested, here's a bit of info on this flower:
"Tulipa sylvestris, the wild tulip[3] or woodland tulip,[4] is a Eurasian and North African species of wild tulip, a plant in the lily family. Its native range extends from Portugal and Morocco to western China, covering most of the Mediterranean and Black Sea Basins, and Central Asia. The species is also cultivated as an ornamental and naturalized in central and northern Europe as well as a few scattered locations in North America.[2][5]"

Grape hyacinth. The genus Muscari originated in the Old World, including the Mediterranean basin, central and southern Europe, northern Africa, western, central and south-western Asia. It has become naturalized elsewhere, including northern Europe and the United States. They usually have one or more narrow leaves which arise from a bulb. The flowers appear in the spring.

Clicked at the Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, this large wading bird in the Stork family is found mainly in the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. Their name is derived from the distinctive gap formed between the recurved lower and arched upper mandible of the beak in adult birds. The cutting edges of the mandible have a fine brush like structure that is thought to give them better grip on the shells of snails. The usual foraging habitats are inland wetlands and are only rarely seen along river banks and tidal flats. On agricultural landscapes, birds forage in crop fields, irrigation canals, and in seasonal marshes. Groups may forage together in close proximity in shallow water or marshy ground on which they may walk with a slow and steady gait. They feed mainly on large molluscs separating the shell from the body of the snail using the tip of their beak.

Whitethroats are summer migrants to the UK, flying all the way from sub-Saharan Africa and Asia to breed here. The first birds tend to arrive in April, with the last leaving by early October. (Woodland Trust).
