The Comma is a fascinating butterfly. The scalloped edges and cryptic colouring of the wings conceal hibernating adults amongst dead leaves, while the larvae, flecked with brown and white markings, bear close resemblance to bird droppings.
The species has a flexible life cycle, which allows it to capitalize on favourable weather conditions. However, the most remarkable feature of the Comma has been its severe decline in the twentieth century and subsequent comeback. It is now widespread in southern Britain and its range is expanding northwards.

The new Asian Elephant House in Copenhagen Zoo was built in 2008. It sets new zoological standards in terms of the elephants' physical well-being. The main enclosure enables the six cows and calves to congregate and sleep together, as they would in the wild, while the floors are heated to keep them dry and thus maintain the health of the animals' feet.
The paddocks recreate a section of dry riverbed as found at the edge of the rainforest. With its mud holes, pools and shading objects, it is a place where the animals are able to play and interact freely.
The Copenhage Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in Europe.
Clicked at the Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, this large wading bird in the Stork family is found mainly in the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. Their name is derived from the distinctive gap formed between the recurved lower and arched upper mandible of the beak in adult birds. The cutting edges of the mandible have a fine brush like structure that is thought to give them better grip on the shells of snails. The usual foraging habitats are inland wetlands and are only rarely seen along river banks and tidal flats. On agricultural landscapes, birds forage in crop fields, irrigation canals, and in seasonal marshes. Groups may forage together in close proximity in shallow water or marshy ground on which they may walk with a slow and steady gait. They feed mainly on large molluscs separating the shell from the body of the snail using the tip of their beak.
This is similar to my previous shot at this spot but I took this as the sun was setting on Expedition Everest and this version is HDR from three bracketed exposures.
