Southern Crested Caracara
Scientific name: Caracara plancus (Miller, 1777)
Portuguese: Carcará, caracará, carancho, caracaraà (Ilha do Marajó),gavião-de-queimada e gavião-calçudo
This big, long-legged hawk is easily identified in flight by its large head and white patches at the ends of its rounded wings.
The climactic ascent of Mount Doom by Samwise and Frodo at the end of the Return of the King, as built by Andrew Alfeche.
This Great Egret made an almost vertical ascent when it saw another of its kind land on the limb of a snag beside it and chased it away. The snag was too small for the two of them.

In the forest at Minnekhada Provincial Park, B.C. Even though the weather has been very un-summery, it was okay for hiking. We spotted a black bear just off the trail as well as many mini frogs.
