A horse riding and packrafting journey to western Mongolia undertaken by Matthew Traver and Jamie Maddison in October/November 2012.
The trip served as training for their larger expedition in 2013 titled One Steppe Ahead (www.onesteppeahead.com). During the course of their journey they rode 250km south from Olgii towards Altai, near the border of China. Along the way the met and lived with Kazakh eagle hunters and local nomadic families and documented their way of life through film, photography and sound recordings.

This big, long-legged hawk is easily identified in flight by its large head and white patches at the ends of its rounded wings.

In the forest at Minnekhada Provincial Park, B.C. Even though the weather has been very un-summery, it was okay for hiking. We spotted a black bear just off the trail as well as many mini frogs.
