A common wasp (Vespula vulgaris) working her way up the very large inflorescence of a purple angelica (Angelica gigas).

A levitation photograph taken in a natural reserve in the east of the Netherlands. Not too happy with the pose, and the resolution/quality could also be higher to be honest. Still, for an impromptu idea execution, it is reasonably I guess.

Just a bit upstream, this creek is quite peaceful, slowly, and lazily negotiating its way around stones, cliffs and the like. But at one point, as if by a change of heart, it makes a run for it, and the quiet babbling quickly becomes a roaring crescendo, ascending in intensity, as the water loses height, one step at a time.

Up the mountain of Winter we go.

Well, I ascended it by air, which was much more civilized. I am so impressed by these mountain climbers that do it for real. Those are real dudes for sure… There're a lot of mountains here in New Zealand that are huge destinations for serious mountain climbers. I understand there are a few extra challenges here because of the ice, snow, and glaciers… I know people die all the time trying to climb Mount Cook, which is not too far away from this one… those guys have some balls! (and some frozen ones!)

This morning I found myself filled with joy. I considered what a mess I am...how yesterday I felt like a completely different person...how usually this bothers me greatly, but today I just found myself laughing. This mess is my life. And it's an ever evolving process. You can try to tame the bucking bronco or grab a saddle and enjoy the ride. We are all moving upwards, sometimes scarily, away from what no longer serves us. Uncontrollably, whether we like it or not, we will ascend.

Part of Bristol Light Festival 2024

A world premiere for Bristol Light Festival, Ascendance is a life-sized projection of an astronaut drifting through a cosmos of vibrant flowers, butterflies and wistful hallucinations. This interstellar installation is a serene space to sit and contemplate the fragility and fleeting nature of human existence, with a soundtrack composed by Spesh Maloney.

Davy & Kristin McGuire are multi-award-winning mixed reality artists, internationally renowned for their idiosyncratic experiments in digital projection, immersive art and storytelling. The pair wowed at Bristol Light Festival 2023 with their beautifully pensive works, Ophelia and Sirens, and have worked with luxury brands including Dior, Barneys and most recently, SAKS on 5th Avenue, New York City, for its renowned Christmas window installation for 2023.

Went to see "The Perfect Gallery" by Christian Jankowski at CUBE on Friday.

If i'm honest I was, and still am, slightly bemused by the arty side of the project but it did give me the opportunity to take a few abstracty, minimal architectural frames...which was nice.

I liked the recurring and parallel shadows from the stairs in this one.

I didn't know what I'd captured until I asked a few photo gurus - I thought something might be wrong with my camera! But no, apparently I'm just lucky. They're called 'ice pillars' or 'light columns', and happen when ice crystals reflect light.
