For a change I thought I would avoid the coast and Dartmoor for my evening trip out. During the Summer months I always see wonderful golden fields dotted around the countryside, however they're not quite there yet, but I quite like the green to gold transition in this shot.
I should add that the image is in focus, however it does look like parts are out of focus. It is in fact where the wind was gusting and blowing the crop around.
Portheras cove is a beautiful beach, but it's not the easiest to get to. The sea mist descended just as we arrived, but at least it made for a more interesting photo.
As promised, a shot of Sheik's side, to show the braid I did. It's really just a piece of e-tape rolled into a cylinder, with a tab left to stick it to the head.
Angry Cloud Monster Glares As White Lightning Whiplashes Sky Over Tampa Bay Turning Black Night Blue - IMRANâ„¢
Look closely. Doesn't that look like a cloud monster with two angry eyes, his face split by the lightning outlining his opening mouth....! Kennedy and I had been on the dock of my blessed home when I did the livestream of an impending thunder and lightning storm that was looming over Tampa Bay like a gigantic invading spaceship from the movie Independence Day. I showed many lightning strikes in the livestream but a streaming app on a smartphone is not geared to capture lightning, which just bathes a video frame in a whitewash effect. I knew a second storm was coming soon. So, this time I went out, later in the night, and climbed on the wall of my swimming pool deck. Distant lightning was flashing beyond downtown Tampa. I clicked a few shots. But I had chosen a 20mm Nikkor lens on my awesome Nikon D850 because I wanted a sky-spanning lightning flash, not a zoomed-in view of a distant strike. And sure enough my patience paid off. This is literally one half of a massive lightning flash that went from south of St. Petersburg to way east beyond Tampa. It was also one-third of the view of the three flashes which filled the sky like a white hot cobweb. During my vigil on the wall, Kennedy, my amazing German Shepherd, patiently sat by the pool keeping an eye on me.

As I was heading home I noticed this Ferruginous Hawk on a power pole, I got out of my car took a picture and he flew off landing on this tree. As I positioned myself and began taking shots of him he did what we all hope for...lifted up in flight and flew past me instead of away from me...this 'made my day'!
As you can see, I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time (which is, after all, a good chunk of what photography is about), by catching the first light on the tip of the mountain. As you can imagine, I was not the only photographer present. All who were there let out a collective gasp as this occurred and then we all started snapping the shutter like crazy. Vermillion Lakes, Banff National Park, Canada.
As always I didnt have the right lens with me on this occasion but Im happy with how they came out for sure.
As the saga of my packing continues, I decided to take my daily photo today with one of my most prized works of art. I found this gem at the Vatican Museum, in the way to view the Sistine Chapel, while in Rome. It is a lith-silkscreen on hand made paper. I carefully carried it on the rest of my trip and then brought it home and had it professionally framed. I really like the end result and it means so much to me.
My undergrad degree is in Art History and I spent 3 weeks traveling through Italy and France to see a great deal of the art work I had studied in college. So many masterpieces brought me to tears.
Michelangelo is one of my 3 most favorite artists of all time. I bought opera glasses so I could use them in the Sistine Chapel to be able to view all of the detail of the ceiling and the wall. I must have sat there for an hour as groups filed in and left, while the guard kept repeating "Silenzio" as these slack-jawed travelers walked into this sacred chapel talking loudly, looking up, and moving on.
With this shot, I pay homage to the Italian Master!

This product is made with hand crafted paper using the centuries old technique of soaking the hemp and then mixing it with other plant fibers, earthen materials, and natural pigments. The paper mixture is spread on a frame to flatten and then dried in open air. The new paper is then worked by hand and printed with the art image.
When on holiday I am always on the look out for something a little different. A little research showed that immediately next to the civil airport in Riga was the Riga Air Museum. To some this may look like a scrapyard however its content is such that it most certainly is a museum. The vast array which is apparently the largest collection of Soviet military aircraft outside of Russia seems to be slowly rusting away.
This particular Mig - 25RBS won't rust as it is built of aluminium. With a top speed of Mach 3 it really made a statement and established a significant number of speed, altitude and climbing records.
One part of me was excited at seeing such an exotic collection of 1950/60/70's technology whilst I also had an ever present shiver running down my spine as I considered the reasons for their existence. It has to be said that during the cold war both the east and the west accumulated huge arsenals of ever increasing power.
My recommendations are that if you are prepared to part with 7 Euros and have a flight booked out of Riga, do get yourself to the airport an hour early. On my visit I almost walked away from the locked entrance gate until I noticed a small sign with instructions to buzz for help. The proprietor didn't speak much English, but as long as I paid up he was happy to let me in and for me to take photos. I also had the museum to myself so you didn't have issues with too many people getting in the way of my pictures.
As the old legend says, there were three brothers - Kyi, Shchek and Khoryv and their sister Lybid…They founded the medieval city in the name of their eldest brother and named the city Kyiv, which eventually became the capital of Kievan Rus' and present-day Ukraine.
This monument was opened in May 2017.
The founders of Kyiv are depicted as small children. The composition consists of four bronze figurines of babies. Three boys - Kyi, Shchek and Khoryv are playing with paper ships on the stylized map of Kyiv, which is the basis of the composition.
There is a hidden symbolism in the paper boats that the three brothers launch on the Dnipro. According to the author Volodymyr Zhuravel: “A ship is a symbol of the soul. Everyone has their own ship. Someone holds it, someone lets it go, and someone has already let it go."
Kyi’s figure looks the tallest - his hands are raised up. Shchek is carefully looking at the boat in his hands. Khoryv is launching his boat on the Dnipro. The figure of the little girl - sister Lybid, can not be noticed right away. She is sitting a little to the side on a bronze bench, watching her brothers.
I panic.
You said hi to me today. Just a simple hi- but it made my day and a rush of feelings from the past clouded my heart.

Guys, I actually went and took photos today- it took every ounce of motivation I had left in me though. I froze my butt off... I hope it was worth it.
It looks like I styled this shot doesn't it? Actually I had brushed the leftover basil to the side of the cutting board just before I took the jars out of the water bath. It was only when I was cleaning up that I stopped an looked. Sometimes life just throws you an image.

The temple burns the past away as they embrace. I've shared this work from Michael Benisty a few different ways. I'm working on one last one now... might be the final photo I post from Burning Man 2018 when I am done... probably a welcome thing to hear to people that follow me that think Burning Man is STUPID (believe me, there are a lot... you would not believe the upset emails and messages I get - but keep sending them, I don't really care. You would be AMAZED how little I care, in fact). Anyway, this art is called "In every lifetime I will find you.

As I walked around Legacy Park in Malibu, I noticed there were quite a few Bluebirds flitting around. This guy stood still long enough for me to capture its image !! Such beautiful birds ! Hit "L" for a closer look !!
As per my experience, I don't recommend pasta in U.S., but it's just my stereotype and I'd like to try if there is a restaurant which serves a tasty pasta. I found a candidate and visited there. Don't you think it looks good?
As I was finishing up some work around the house saw that the clouds around as the day was about to end had a good chance at some colors ... So I headed out to where all the leaves have fallen locally on a field below the trees ... turned out to be worth while. Here the colors were just starting out.
Turned the camera vertically here to get all those great leaves leading up to the trees and that pretty sky.
As I was in lockdown passing the time I wanted to try bubble photography. I like the beautiful colours and patterns swirling and changing with time. :)
As soon as this guy saw us shooting Robbie n the streets, he gladly lend us the bike, and we end up having lots of fun in this colorful bike.

As these two beauties ran towards me of course they noticed me at some point. I usually try to take pictures of relaxed animals, but sometimes it is fun to capture their big eyes;)

As well as being very successful car makers, Singer made a number of commercial vehicles. This 1931 Singer Van, JU 827, was found in a barn in very poor condition. It was restored by staff at Coventry Transport Museum where it is now on display.
As much as I enjoy looking at all the photos on Flickr I have to say they come second to the friends I have made on this site. Most of these friendships will be long distance with written exchanges only but every so often you are fortunate enough to meet up with you, or two, of your "Flickr Friends". That happened just this week when we were able to spend some time with Ben and Larry who were in town from Calgary. It was the most wonderful afternoon spent sharing stories and taking photos, which ended all too soon for me.
