This was quite a challenging photoshoot for me as these Sedge Warblers spend most of their time low in the reed beds and occasionally popped up by which time I had to be ready to shoot and hence many poor images but at least three decent ones, so you get to see them all. The images were all taken at Attenborough Nature Reserve.

We recently had a wonderful trip to Phoenix to visit our daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter. While there we were fortunate to explore the Usery Mountain Regional Park for the first time and experience this amazing sunset.

Freddie is 4 years old on November 15, 2022.

And he could have just walked around that water. We wouldn’t have thought any less of him would we…? But street cred, pride, obstinacy mean he walks straight on through. Always with an eye on the photo opportunity. So old towels are an essential part of my photography gear.

Happy Birthday you hooligan. We love you.

An album, if you want more of Freddie ⬇️

No software wizardry, the main subject is a photo SooC. I did tidy up the surrounding black and cut a 4:3 crop. But what is it…?

I am very proud that this image was adapted by my Flickr friend White Angel in 2 works here… ⬇️

A rusty old chain and a solid padlock, sadly without a key. But we can enjoy it here.

Taken a couple of days ago at our local park... the light is great at the moment and set to continue for the weekend!

Many thanks for looking!

St Anne's Pier is a Victorian era pleasure pier in the English seaside resort of St Anne's-on-the-Sea, Lancashire. It lies on the estuary of the River Ribble. The pier, designed by A. Dowson, was completed in 1885 and was one of the earliest public buildings in St Anne's, a 19th-century planned town. Wikipedia

Our club gained access to the Winter Gardens which has money from the lottery fund and is about to be restored. It was a very interesting experience. Details here tinyurl.com/2whssyxu

Visiting the RC Cathedral with [https://www.flickr.com/photos/longstrattonian]. I have borrowed a fisheye lens which I am enjoying experimenting with. Especially, I like NOT correcting the distortion. It gives images a 'different look' and I find it fascinating. The RC Cathedral near to me hs been an ideal place to try this out...a beautiful building and the light is often extraordinary...

The Langdale Pikes

A shot from a month ago and a gorgeous cloud inversion in the Langdale Valley. This was from Side Pike, a great place to view the light hitting the tops as the inversion swirled around the Pikes.

Part of my 'Duffus Castle through the seasons' project.

The castle is situated on the Laich of Moray, a fertile plain that was once the swampy foreshore of Spynie Loch. This was originally a more defensive position than it appears today, long after the loch was drained.

The motte is a huge man-made mound, with steep sides and a wide ditch separating it from the bailey. The whole site is enclosed by a water-filled ditch, which is more a mark of its boundary than it is a serious defensive measure.

Duffus Castle was built by a Flemish man named Freskin, who came to Scotland in the first half of the 1100s. After an uprising by the ‘men of Moray’ against David I in 1130, the king sent Freskin north as a representative of royal authority.

He was given the estate of Duffus, and here he built an earthwork-and-timber castle. Freskin’s son William adopted the title of ‘de Moravia’ – of Moray. By 1200, the family had become the most influential noble family in northern Scotland, giving rise to the earls of Sutherland and Clan Murray.

In about 1270, the castle passed to Sir Reginald Cheyne the Elder, Lord of Inverugie. He probably built the square stone keep on top of the motte, and the curtain wall encircling the bailey. In 1305, the invading King Edward I of England gave him a grant of 200 oaks from the royal forests of Darnaway and Longmorn, which were probably used for the castle’s floors and roofs.

A beautiful sunrise this morning as I was heading to work

Luckily I had my camera with me

No need to comment on this one... I just posted it to provide comparison with the black and white versions. I had already posted this months ago.

The reflection of the windows and brickwork on the bank caught my eye. The swan glides through the architecture.....

It's that time of year again... and I just had to stop and take a photo of the mushrooms growing on this fallen tree trunk. A little girl walked past and asked her dad "is that a mushroom house?" :D

An old cartwheel lies abandoned in fields not far from my home. I have studied it before but this is an alternate view with darkened tones. It looks to me like something left behind after a battle. Or images of the old American west…..

13 January, 2022. Photography Week have selected this image for publication in issue no. 486 of their fine magazine.

A foggy morning was forecast last week, so I was lucky to be able to visit these fabulous trees. A very enjoyable morning which gave me a few new smiles as I walked about.

Looking towards Taransay at sunset on the amazing beach on the beautiful island of Harris.

I decided to post this tree again but this one is zoomed in with a 1:1 crop marking the rowan tree the star and not the backdrop view.

I still can't believe what glorious weather we've been having! Autumn is definitely my favourite time of year. I couldn't resist snapping this silhouette when the guy stopped, in the perfect place, to check his phone.

Have a great week everyone :-)

Shipwreck off west coast of Cyprus

A quick visit to the empty streets of Nottingham brought me to the Rock Cemetery, where at least a semblance of life (and death) was to be found.

I’ve been here a few times and always struggled to get a decent photograph of the numerous Victorian gothic angel memoria en masse, so to speak.

Anyways, here’s my latest attempt...

I normally shoot wildlife and had headed to Horsey to photograph the seals, only to find that the beach has been roped off to protect the wildlife during birthing season. Winterton-on-Sea is just a few miles south, so I pulled out the tripod and had some fun in the water instead!
