This is buff arches a stunning moth caught in the moth trap this weekend. I find it exquisitely beautiful and that mystery of night flying completes the feeling.
A ray of light lit up the leaves to the right of this photo... that is, until I brought my camera up to eye level and adjusted the focus... and then the clouds moved across haha! So we hung around waiting for more sunlight, which at least gave me more time to frame the shot as I wanted to, but it did cause a lot of moaning and groaning from daughter ('hurry up, mum!'). Sigh. Solitary photo walks are much easier .

St Andrew and St Mary's 11th century Church, Stoke Rochford. The sky didn't light up as I had hoped. Shot at 25mm, f/11, iso 100 and 1/100 sec.
This scene of the trawler wreck and Saltwick nab on the Yorkshire coast seems to shout out for a BW treatment. Although the bay has seen several wrecks owing to the treachery of the wrecks, this one may have had a more sinister end. The nab was once mined for alum but was later replaced by aniline dyes.

A few weeks back, I received a text message from my Grandad informing me that the Ladybower, Derwent and Howden reservoirs in The Peak District were overflowing! So, when it got to the weekend, I headed out, hoping to get the sunrise in with the overflowing dam. As I drove out from Sheffield, I caught a glimpse in the rear-view mirror of the sky beginning to change colour, and all looked very promising. That was until I got to Ladybower Reservoir and thick cloud cover was rolling in, leading to a disappointing sunrise. Instead, I managed to come away with this moody-looking 4 stitch panorama.
It's been raining quite a lot lately... started when the school term finished and there seems to be no end. These roses had just about enough, I think!

Film, huh? I’ve been gifted this camera from a friend as I mentioned I’ve got an itch that needs scratching, a curiosity about the old days when we all shot film. There’s just the small matter of sourcing a compatible battery. It’s been dropped at some point and there’s some dings and scratches. And the zoom is sticking. Cheers pal…!

Indulge me. I never tire of telling the story of the abandoned oil refinery on what is now the Canvey Wick Nature Reserve. Even after exploring the place many times over the years, a new diversion presents itself and who knows what you may find. Here was the discovery at the end of my walk through the reedbed yesterday . And what’s it worth? Well not much maybe. Sometimes a photo is just a photo. Or maybe a little reminder that our dominant presence on this planet comes with responsibilities.

Two cheetahs standing gracefully on a rocky outcrop in the Serengeti, surveying the vast savannah. Captured in beautiful natural light, the scene highlights their sleek forms and the endless African plains stretching behind them.
Last Sunday, my wife and I visited Spurn Point - a narrow stretch of land that juts out into the Humber Estuary.
As well as the nature reserve, which is popular with bird watchers, there is a lighthouse and a lifeboat station at the end of the 3 mile stretch.
Whilst walking down towards the lighthouse, you can see the remains of sea defences used to try and prevent coastal erosion.
With the sea being a little choppy, I tried to get the waves crashing against the sorry-looking sea defences.
I think it's a spoonbill! ;-)
The bird was above a covering over a sanctuary in Wildlife Habitat (Port Douglas)
These are commonly seen at the edges of swamps and wetlands. they are often curious and this on sat on a fence in front of me not sure what to make of this object poking out of the window of the car
A park bench long exposed to the wet weather gathers fungi...
