I went fruit picking! I got the apples frmo Romily Park and the blackberries from Porthkerry Park. No one wants to eat the apples though because they're crab apples and they say it'll make them ill.

Apple blossoms - Vaguely inspired by Van Gogh’s Almond Blossoms - For some reason, this entire pack of Polaroid Originals color film for the SX-70 has these strange, lightning-like blue streaks down the middle of the frame. I thought the rollers might be dirty (I’ve had a number of IP and Polaroid Originals films burst open on their way out of the camera), but the rollers were clean, and the new pack of PO monochrome film doesn’t have the same anomaly.
A queer little apple, the Devonshire quarrenden. Nobody knows quite where it came from — perhaps England, perhaps France — and that mystery is made greater by it being quite old, that is, known for a long time.
It ripens second only after my white transparents. Like that apple it is a dessert apple and not good at all for keeping. The tree is very, very vigourous even on the M26 dwarfing rootstock on which this one is grafted. It'll get two prunings a year, one after fruiting and another in winter to tidy it up and still eat and grow like a teenager. I thinned its fruit this year in what I thought was heavy-handed way, zealous even, and still it carried so much fruit that most remained quite small. Some were a decent size, others like big walnut-sized. I've never seen it before but this year it got a bit of apple scab; something to which it is supposedly prone.
I did say it was queer! Ripening in January-February it's early. This is a nice stop gap between the white transparent and the Cox's orange and its parent ribston pippin that arrive in February-March as does the mystery apple supposedly a court pendu plat, but so mysterious that even the nurseryman who sold it to me as a CPP cannot give it a name. The fruit is blocky, almost pentagonal in section, a symmetry common in apples that even turns up in their names like five crown. Once it ripens, it must come off the tree as it spoils in an instant. There's a moment, probably at 3:17am, when at just that one point in ripeness it takes on a strawberry-like flavour.
Because it is prolific, tiny and a bit scabby, handling that amount of fruit and getting it off before the forecast rough weather will be a challenge. I think I'll manage.
