This mama turtle was trying to wrestle this one stray egg into a hole where she had already buried several of her other eggs. She then covers them. When the eggs hatch, the baby turtles dig their way to the ground surface.

Clifton, Arizona, USA. Once a booming copper mining town but now mostly declining or already in decay and the majority of people and business have moved just up the road to Morenci. The Freeport McMoRan copper mine located in Morenci is one of the largest in the world
Cliff dwellings along the San Francisco and Gila Rivers are evidence of an advanced civilization that existed long before Caesar ruled Rome. Many specimens of pottery and stone implements are still to be found in these ancient dwelling places. In the mid-1500s, both Fray Marcos de Niza and Francisco Vasquez de Coronado passed through the area, following the San Pedro north to the Gila River. Geronimo was born in 1829 near the confluence of Eagle Creek and the San Francisco and Gila Rivers.
In 1856 the first mineral discoveries of the Morenci/Clifton area were found by California volunteers pursuing Apaches, and conflicts between the Apaches and advancing Anglo settlers touched off a 26-year-long war. Mining for gold and silver began in 1864, followed by copper in 1872, and the mine at Morenci quickly grew to become the largest copper producer in North America. Clifton's population ballooned from 600 in 1880 to 5000 by 1910, and it quickly earned its reputation as the wildest of the "Wild West" boomtowns. Neighboring Morenci was swallowed up by an open pit mine in the 1960s, but Clifton was preserved, and today Chase Creek Street is still graced with lovely Victorian-era buildings from the town's halcyon days as the place to quickly make and lose a fortune.
In 1983, Clifton survived two nearly fatal blows, first a nearly three-year-long strike that began on June 30, 1983. Then later that same year, on October 2, 1983, Tropical Storm Octave sent 90,900 cubic feet of water per second into the San Francisco River, which burst its banks, destroying 700 homes and heavily damaging 86 of the town's 126 businesses.
Although I had already shot Skogafoss the previous day, I felt there was more that could be explored. The sheer power and exquisite rock structure that characterised Skogafoss was worth another visit.
Very early the following morning, I kept my long exposure detritus in the car and went in close. The closer I approached, the more spray became an overwhelming challenge. To achieve this and other shots you will see later in the series, I kept my camera under my jumper, set on manual exposure and manual focus bringing the camera out only when the wind was favourable. I took a variety of angles in the space of fewer than 1-2 seconds. I repeated this for over an hour until I was dripping wet and could no longer protect the camera. Whilst many of the shots were spoiled with water spray enough managed to get through. I emerged after an hour cold and wet but happy.excited about the potential of the shots.
Too often (myself included) we stand back, protecting our equipment taking time to meticulously achieve the perfect shot, only to get home and realise we have created the same image as every other photographer there on the day. Sometimes it pays to take chances and chase a more challenging shot. I hope my series on Skogafoss helps to reinforce this.

The castle hill was already settled in the Bronze Age. The castle (which was founded before 1025) was transferred to the Wittelsbachs after the death of the last count of Burghausen, Gebhard II, in 1168. In 1180 they were appointed dukes of Bavaria and the castle was extended under Duke Otto I of Wittelsbach.
With the first partition of Bavaria in 1255, Burghausen Castle became the second residence of the dukes of Lower Bavaria, the main residence being Landshut. In 1255 under Duke Henry XIII (1253–1290) the work for the main castle commenced. In 1331 Burghausen and its castle passed to Otto IV, Duke of Lower Bavaria.
Under the dukes of Bavaria-Landshut (1392-1503), the fortifications were extended around the entire castle hill. Starting with Margarete of Austria, the deported wife of the despotic Duke Henry XVI (1393–1450), the castle became the residence of the Duke's consorts and widows, and also a stronghold for the ducal treasures. In 1447 Louis VII, Duke of Bavaria died in the castle as Henry's prisoner. Under Duke Georg of Bavaria (1479–1503) the work was completed and Burghausen Castle became the strongest fortress of the region.
After the reunification of Bavaria in 1505 with the Landshut War of Succession the castle had military importance, and due to the threat of the Ottoman Empire it was subsequently modernised. During the Thirty Years War Gustav Horn was kept imprisoned in the castle from 1634 to 1641. After the Treaty of Teschen in 1779 Burghausen Castle became a border castle. During the Napoleonic Wars the castle suffered some destruction. The 'Liebenwein tower' was occupied by the painter Maximilian Liebenwein from 1899 until his death. He decorated the interior in the Art Nouveau style.

Since we were already Up North, my traveling companions decided to visit their aunt and uncle. So we checked out of our hotel and headed for Charlevoix.
We had a pleasant chat with Harold and Donna, and Harold fixed us a pizza dinner. Then we headed home.
The trip from Gaylord to Charlevoix featured some glorious Fall Color. Thus today's photo, and the photo I shared a year ago.
==========
This photograph is an outtake from my 2024 photo-a-day project, 366 in 2024.
Number of project photos taken: 19
Title of folder: Colors-Harold & Donna's
Other photos taken on 10/16/2024: We headed home, of course. During that trip I'd pull out my pocket camera every now and then to take a photo of the sky, And whatever else the camera found. Sixteen pix, in all.
Having already uploaded a square crop of this shot of a spiral stair in the Herzog & de Meuron designed Blavatnik School of Governement I'm not sure whether the extra concrete adds much to the shot, other than a bit of height, something you might argue is important in a shot of a stair.....

From Wikipedia : "The Blavatnik School of Government is located in the University of Oxford's Radcliffe Observatory Quarter on Woodstock Road, however its main entrance is on Walton Street. The building is designed by architects Herzog & de Meuron to promote open discussion, interaction and collaboration. The central forum is inspired by the idea of openness and transparency and connects all the floors together. Construction work started in autumn 2013, after some controversy, and ended in late 2015. The building is controlled by a combination of systems and technology that helps minimise its environmental impact.
The building is taller than Carfax Tower in the centre of Oxford, this dominating the site and causing opposition to the scheme by local residents in the Jericho district of the city and elsewhere. The site is immediately to the south of the café/bar Freud, in the historic 1836 Greek revival St Paul's Church on Walton Street. The scheme has been opposed by the cafe's owner, David Freud, due to its size compared to the church building. The site is also opposite the classical Oxford University Press building. In Spring 2013, a public meeting was held in St Barnabas Church and the building was described as "a concrete marshmallow".

I have not been much at Flickr lately because a dear friend has been here for Christmas and holidays. But now I´m back.
Part of a litter of mostly hatched insect eggs. For size reference, those egg-stalks were about 6-7mm (1/4") long. No idea as to what kind of insect, open to suggestions.

I already uploaded photos of the Westduinpark in The Hague near Scheveningen. Wednesday I was in the same park, but then the part near Kijkduin. This is photo number 6 in the new series. It is an impressive dune area that runs approximately from Scheveningen harbor to Kijkduin. There are Scottish Highlanders in the protected nature reserve to control the vegetation and there is really a lot to see in terms of flora and fauna. It is a combination of dunes, open sand area and forest. It is very special there because dunes and forests alternate and sometimes merge into one another. On warm sunny days, a lot of women walk barefoot on the sandy areas, to experience the ultimate feeling of freedom. There are hiking trails as well as cycle paths and horse riding trails in the very interesting park. A lot of people are really impressed by the vegetation, bunkers from the Second World War, steep dune hills and the impressive viewpoints. The view at those points of the beach and the sea and on the other side the buildings of the city is truly phenomenal. Come there once and experience a invisible blanket of oasis and peace. You will imagine yourself in a kind of paradise where worries and problems do not exist and where the war of thoughts in everyone's head disappears like snow in the sun for a moment in time, because freedom is in each of us.

"My name is Orton “Brother” King. I live on Park Beach on the island of Bequia, which is the largest in the chain of the southern Caribbean island nation called St. Vincent and the Grenadines. I am a native skin-diving fisherman and because of my long concerns about creatures in our oceans going scarce, with some already extinct, I am trying to save one of these beautiful species—the hawksbill turtle—from extinction.”

Last week we visit the Alps again. The snow already almost disappeared here in the Lech Valley, only the mountain peaks and shady places were white.
Because of the hazy weather, we could capture this interesting golden light mood over the mountains.

Królewiec Hall in the Grand Master's Palace in the Malbork castle.
The two longitudal interiors, each lit by one window, existed here already in the medieval times. There were mentioned in the Teutonic ledgers as the master's chamberand small chamber. The restoration work was co-financed by the authorities of the city of Królewiec, which is why the hall was named this way. The recent research proved that the interiors were decorated with a painted plant twig. A fragment of this old decoration has been maintained on the southern wall of the room. In the first half of the 19th century during the romantic restoration of the Castle, both interiors were reconstructed (following the example of the neighbouring refectories) into one square hall with a vault resting on one central pillar. The current furnishings of the hall are neo-Gothic furniture and graphic portraits of people associated with the work in the castle at that time.
The Castle of the Teutonic Order in Malbork, the largest Gothic castle complex in the world, is a 13th-century Teutonic castle and fortress located near the town of Malbork on the river Nogat in Poland. It was originally constructed by the Teutonic Knights, a German Catholic religious order of crusaders, in a form of an Ordensburg fortress. The Order named it Marienburg in honour of Mary, mother of Jesus. In 1457, during the Thirteen Years’ War, it was sold by the Bohemian mercenaries to King Casimir IV of Poland in lieu of indemnities and it since served as one of the several Polish royal residences and the seat of Polish offices and institutions, interrupted by several years of Swedish occupation, and fulfilling this function until the First Partition of Poland in 1772. From then on the castle was under German rule for over 170 years until 1945. The castle is a classic example of a medieval fortress and, on its completion in 1406, was the world's largest brick castle. UNESCO designated the "Castle of the Teutonic Order in Malbork" and the Malbork Castle Museum a World Heritage Site in December 1997.

Sala Królewiecka w Pałacu Wielkich Mistrzów na zamku w Malborku.
W średniowieczu istniały w tym miejscu dwa podłużne pomieszczenia, oświetlone każde jednym oknem – wymieniane w krzyżackich księgach rachunkowych: izba i izdebka mistrza.

Here i get soaking wet because i need to save my tripod. I already put my tripod on the dry part of the stones so i can get my camera from the bag 5 mtrs behind me. But sometimes there are waves much bigger then the average ones. I need to go in the water till my waist to get my tripod back. Actually It was little bit dangerous, the power of the returning water was really so strong i am not a small guy but i really need to fight to keep standing and walk back.
Very good here was the hotel.
The hotel is 100 mtr from this place, and when the weather is good you get breakfast on the beach.
Oh gosh im already behind and its only been 5 days of this 365 project. Autumnal Magic is already at the Château (…De La Hulpe), once again!!
After a looong time , I decided again to walk away in sacred solitude with my camera….And smell, touch, listen, breath, daydream, meditate, be inspired, create! And although this enchanting land is divine throughout the year, at any moment, it is during Autumn that it becomes really mesmerizing during a sunny , bright, warm day!!! It is during the end of October-mid November that it becomes mostly inspiring and exciting!!
And here I am, after a busy, complicated year, where I have mostly been occupied with private , family tasks, not having to do neither with photography, nor with ….Art….Since 2005, it is 2014 the year that I have used my camera in such a short period… My less productive photo-year! OK, I know it has not finished yet!....
Already very low light, at 1/50, ISO 2500, Aperture 1.4, unfortnalty at BW the candle light is not very visible.
Officially the last image of the table series. It's been about 6 months and while I don't think I've repeated myself I also think everything has been said. This has without a doubt been the most whimsical series I've ever done.
For some reason people laugh uncomfortably when I tell them that.
The boathouse at the Achensee - a very popular motive. I had already been there for four times and three oft them i did not like the light. Yesterday it was finally over and I was able to capture this great sunset! After the shot i had to get back fast in my car, because it startet to rain, you can already see the rain behind the house.
