Ya que hace días que no salgo a la vía aprovecho para subir una de las tomas que realizamos este fantástico dia en el que esta bonita composición se desplazó a Cuenca. Rebasando la señal de avanzada a Chillarón el tren histórico y la 319,332 camino de Madrid.

This is an experiment we are currently performing at ETH. We are using a silicon nitride membrane as a substrate for mechanical force detection. The membrane has a hexagonal hole pattern that you can clearly see as bright holes in a slightly darker sheet. The metal tip looming in from the upper picture edge is a scanning tip (commercial AFM cantilever). Through the membrane we see in the background a bluish lens used to focus a laser interferometer onto the membrane.
The goal of the experiment is to use membranes as mechanical detectors for ultrasmall forces, for example to measure magnetic interactions near the atomic level.
