Portrait of the Apollo 9 prime crew in their space suits. From left to right they are: Commander, James A. McDivitt, Command Module pilot, David R. Scott, and Lunar Module pilot, Russell L. Schweickart. The Apollo 9 mission was designed to test the Apollo Command/Service and Lunar Modules in Earth orbit. The purpose was to verify that the Command/Service Module (CSM) could successfully dock with the Lunar Module (LM). The mission was also to test the LM systems in a "free flying" attitude to ensure that it performed as per specifications.

Arriving back in Auckland after a quick dash (65 minutes each way) to Christchurch to fill up the tanks. There was a week long shortage of AvGas in Auckland due to a recent contaminated shipment, and a few planes flew to Christchurch (where there are adequate supplies) for a top up. Operated as flights AA9779 (to CHC) and AA9780 back.

I was living [E 81st] and working [59th btw Lex & Park] in the City on 9/11.......several days after 9/11 I walked downtown with a film camera [don't remember which one] and half-heartedly took a role of film...I wasn't into it as I believe that one needs emotional commitment to photograph and I did not possess that kind of emotion then...I remember that our office closed shortly after the collapses and everyone walked down the middle of 3rd avenue to their homes....city was completely shut down....the posting of hope were so sad................. this could have been Union Square
