Based on my ‘gummy worms’ painting, I wanted to create an environment for the worms as a continuation into my practice. I started looking for organic shapes that could be ambiguous. The orange peel reminded me of skin, but at the same time once it was complete resembled a leaf. I liked the blurred line between nature and the details of the human figure and decided to carry this sentiment onto my research.
In terms of environment I came across the video game ‘Disco Elysium’ . It has created a world in lots of aspects, the first being the physical game world. The game surrounds a character who is an amnesiac detective. He suffers from both alcohol and drug induced amnesia throughout the game. Psyche of the character plays a major role in the gameplay. For instance, a player character with high drama may be able to detect and fabricate lies effectively, but may also become prone to hysterics and paranoia.
The soundtrack artwork by Anton Vill creates a chaotic environment described it as ‘Writhing mass of undignified love and suffering’ and ‘grotesque carnival motion’
