Refresh yourself at the Landes National Park Region a peaceful and natural retreat. The Landes are a flat sandy low land area at the southwest corner of Aquitaine region featuring the largest European pine forest. An area of over 300 sq km - the park is somewhere to spread your wings and to get back in touch with nature. This hidden garden is the privileged territory to approach the soul of Aquitaine - France. Visitors here invariably leave with a renewed sense of peace and vitality. For active days there are lakes for boating, swimming, picnic or just observing the wildlife, and several centers for horse-riding, canoing and cycle trails. The Landes forest, also known as the moors of Gascony.

Photo taken at the Landes National Park Region of South Western of France. A misty morning at the largest European pine forest. A lovely Autumn forest with lush brown colored ferns, a majority of them grow in shade. New growth is sometimes reddish or purple, but turns green with age, yellow in autumn, and brown in winter.

Pushkar (पुष्कर) in Rajasthan is one of the oldest cities of India. The date of its actual origin is not known, but legend associates Lord Brahma with its creation. It is mentioned that Brahma performed penance here for 60,000 years to have glimpse of Radha Krishna. Pushkar boasts of temples, though not many can be considered very old since many were destroyed by Aurangzeb, a Mogul ruler and subsequently rebuilt. The most famous among all is the Brahma Temple, said to be the only temple in the world dedicated to this deity.

Pushkar is famous for its annual Pushkar Cattle Fair, which has over the years become one of the biggest tourist attractions in India. This is usually the quintessential colourful Indian festival which you see in all the Incredible !ndia ads. However, this year was not as joyous for the traders. The global recession combined with the drought hit hard and there were hardly any buyers. The individual stories are sad - with most traders having to leave their cows, camels and horses behind because they can't afford to feed their families, let alone the animals. Yet, the resilience of the people was touching to see - with hope for the future and welcoming to those from the outside.

Long exposures and minimalism doesn't necessarily mean minimalism in tones to me, only in composition... Michael Levin and Michael Kenna are true masters in this discipline and are the ones who inspire me...

I haven't been shooting new photos for weeks. Work and travelling is killing me really, I feel like I'm close to a burn out ...So here's another one from the archives. Like the previous post, and this one, and this one and this one, all shot on the same day, April 25 2009. It was a day when conditions were ideal for long exposures...

The Pyrenees also spelled Pyrenées Spanish: Pirineos; French: Pyrénées; Catalan: Pirineus; Occitan: Pirenèus; Aragonese: Perinés; Basque: Pirinioak are a range of mountains in southwest Europe that form a natural border between France and Spain. They separate the Iberian Peninsula from the rest of continental Europe, and extend for about 430 km. For the most part, the main crest forms a massive divider between France and Spain, with the tiny country of Andorra sandwiched in between. The Col d'Aubisque above is a mountain pass in the Pyrenees 30km south of Tarbes and Pau in the department of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques in the Aquitaine region of France. The Aubisque is one of those hors catégorie cols that make the legend of the Tour de France.

We were high up in the Pyrenees at the top of the Col d'aubisque even higher at 1,750 m. The weather had been cold, cold enough for snow on the top of the mountains. The white mountain tops are reaching here higher than 2600 meters. The highest peak in the Pyrenees is 3,404 meters high.

Was a fantastic sunset a few days back. So good that I jumped away from the desk with my handy point-n-shoot (that I keep in my bag to/from work) and went into one of the unused conference rooms on the West side of the building so that I could get this shot looking over Tokyo station and the Marunouchi business district at dusk.

Facts About Roses (Rose Flowers)

The birthplace of the cultivated Rose was probably Northern Persia (Current IRAN), on the Caspian, or Faristan on the Gulf of Persia.

Historically, the oldest Rose fossils have been found in Colorado, dating back to more than 35 million years ago.

Roses were considered the most sacred flowers in ancient Egypt and were used as offerings for the Goddess Isis. Roses have also been found in Egyptian tombs, where they were formed into funerary wreaths.

Confucius, 551 BC to 479 BC, reported that the Imperial Chinese library had many books on Roses.

Ancient Sumerians of Mesopotamia (in the Tigris-Euphrates River Valley) mentioned Roses in a cuneiform tablet (a system of writing) written in approximately 2860 BC.

The English were already cultivating and hybridizing Roses in the 15th Century when the English War of Roses took place. The winner of the war, Tudor Henry VII, created the Rose of England (Tudor Rose) by crossbreeding other Roses.

While no Black Rose yet exists, there are some of such a deep Red color as to suggest Black.

Roses are omnipresent and grown over all parts of the globe.

The Netherlands is the world's leading exporter of Roses.

The Netherlands, with about 8000 hectares of land under Rose cultivation, is the global leader in Rose cultivation. 54 per cent (about 5000 hectares) of the cultivated land in Ecuador is under Rose cultivation!! Zambia, a small nation, had 80 per cent of its cultivated land under Roses.

Classification of Roses

Broadly, Roses are divided into three classes-

On a beautiful morning I shot this image. It's a view on the german city Emmerich, this is minutes after the first rays of the sun hit the land. This was also the first day I had to scratch the ice of my windshield.

It's not a re-post, but this guy has been hanging out at the end of my photostream (one person found it) where i put a load of Getty submissions that i didn't want to clutter my daily uploads with. And seeing as today is the first day of the new cricket season for my team, i thought he now deserved a day in the sun. It will be our first game as Freshwater Cricket Club after 30 years of playing as West Island, and i'll be captain today so not a lot of flickr time, but will catch up soon enough.

Instantly hailed as the most important structure of its time, Frank Gehry’s Guggenheim Museum Bilbao recently celebrated a decade of extraordinary success on October 19, 2007. With close to ninety exhibitions and over ten million visitors to its credit, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao forever changed the way the world thinks about museums, and it continues to challenge our assumptions about the connections between art, architecture, and collecting.

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao Collection has a unique, yet complementary, identity from the collections at the other Guggenheim institutions, featuring works by some of the most significant artists of the second half of the 20th century: Eduardo Chillida, Yves Klein, Willem de Kooning, Robert Motherwell, Robert Rauschenberg, James Rosenquist, Clyfford Still, Antoni Tàpies, and Andy Warhol, among others.

It is a great idea to tell the story behind the image

so this is my story

I was driving back home, passing by a small town (Wolsztyn, Poland)where once a year in first weekend of May, the steam train parade takes place. I noticed, that they have some steam locomotives standing as an open air museum and stopped to make some pictures. Then I noticed a steam locomotive warming and slowly going away. After app. 1 km it stopped at a little station. I followed the locomotive and found out, that this steam trains are still serving a small distance line. I liked the mood of a solitude, small train station and old steam train... tried to put it in this photo.....

“...Las tropillas entabladas,

los fletes bien ensillados

es legado que ha heredado

esta Patria que es sagrada.

¡Qué lujo verla rodeada,

uno por uno agarrar,

la madrina cabrestear,

pegadita a la asidera!

¡Qué orgullo pa'mi bandera

que estamos viendo flamear!”

The Kakehi (Bamboo Fountain) is a waterspout consisting of a vertical bamboo pipe in which the internal part of each node (joint) has been bored out to accept a plastic hosepipe. At the head of the vertical bamboo pipe a "Komagshira" or scorched timber joint drilled out to accept the vertical and horizontal bamboo pipes, the komagashira timber top section is either square in section or round. The" Kakehi " has a number of uses, used to feed water into a stone water basin (Chozubachi) or to trickle water into the end of a Deer Scarer (Shishi-Odoshi). The Shishi Odoshi was originally used by Japanese farmers to scare off deer and boar from their rice crops, and later it has become part of the Japanese garden

In preparation of a free buffet lunch I thought I'd get a little exercise cycling on my wife's battery powered mamachari (bike with large baskets) and came across this unexpected wonderful sunset.

This was taken using my wide angle lense and cropped at the bottom to remove the beach from the shot.

Slightly processed to give a nice cinematic film feel.

I just returned from a road trip to Glacier, Wateron Lakes, Banff & Jasper where there were record low temps. I think the ice and snow on this bighorn sheep represents this quite well :) All in all amazing trip though. You can't beat the Canadian Rockies for breathtaking landscape. Will slowly be adding shots to my stream. Thanks for stopping by! Explored FP & highest position 2 :)

I was looking forward to October the 2nd (the Birth of a great leader Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi) to dedicate this picture but unfortunately work and personal life did take most of my time . So I woke up earlier than normal time and finished it just this morning. I figured, there's no time limit to dedicate something to a great man like him, right?
