WOW! Thank you so much everyone, for getting my first picture on Explore. It's most likely due to the million of people I tagged, so thanks! Just the other day I put "get explored" on my Bucket List, now its happened!
I am aware you can't read this, so there are other views in comments.
Thank you Sydney!! For the tag!
Now if I tag you all you have to do is make a page of things you love. I thought this was cute so I will tag a lot of people. :D
This is a different winter scene I've taken in April 1998 in Boulder, USA with my old Minolta SLR and now scanned.
Boulder is the county seat and most populous city of Boulder County and the 11th most populous city in the state of Colorado. Boulder is located at the base of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains at an elevation of 5,430 feet (1,655 m), Boulder is 25 miles (40 km) northwest of Denver.
The United States Census Bureau estimates that in 2008 the population of the city of Boulder was 94,268, while the population of the Boulder Metropolitan Statistical Area was 293,161.
Boulder is famous for its status as one of the most liberal cities in Colorado, its colorful Western history, being a choice destination for Hippies in the late 1960s, and as home of the main campus of the University of Colorado, the state's largest university. (Source: Wikipedia)
Warmly recommended to view Large On Black
(Quelle: Wikipedia)

This Photo was Taken form one static point on High way Dhaka –Sylhet Road at DIGOMBOR Bazar, and Mile stone -67, It was 25th Dec 2010 in the evening in between 4:00 pm to 05:00pm . The Idea was to Capture Life Style of Sylhet BANGLADESH at High way , The High way code is no factor when question of daily earning comes , This is a normal and a routine activities almost all over BNGLADESH, Rural People takes Highway as there Life Line , and for daily earning hey need to go to market and sell. Buy there goods and daily commodities, So the traffic code is not important here, Life is impotent for survival. I was Noticed by Locals , Every Week in an average >b> 1 / 2 Road accident takes Places over the pedestrian at this point , still there life style do not Change.

HSS! :) This will be my contribution to the Sliders Sunday group for today.
Proocessing: the image below is at 0EV, whereas the one above is made up of two images, +1 EV and -1 EV. In RAW, I do like to push 'clarity' to around 70-80 and 'vibrance' to around 30-40. The two were combined as layers in Elements and the foreground of the sky version was erased to show the lighter pier underneath. There is also an adjustment layer with the pier selected and the histogram triangles were tweaked to make the planks more contrasty. Finally, the sky was burnt a little using a 500pixel soft brush at 20% opacity :)
My good Flickr friend Roni has suggested that I shoot the same location over a period of time. This view has been taken before, you can see the other versions here: tirluniau/landscapes .Visit Roni's stream to see some acutely observed macro images which ooze warm colours :)
If you know it works :)....
Also, been reading a bit (due to my current condition lol) and become aware of a couple of things like.. my in-camera noise reduction will be off next time I shoot and that the 'colour' noise reduction slider has an impact at around 12-15. Remember to zoom in to 100% when you're checking your noise!! :)

Tundra swans are on their way to the resting places on the shores that they use each winter. A couple of thousands come as passing migrants, and their winter quarters are in the wetlands of the Netherlands. The Tundra Swan is a small Arctic swan. The Mute Swan with the orange bill is more known in the Netherlands. The breeding range of the Tundra swans extends across the coastal lowlands of Siberia. They start to arrive on the breeding grounds around mid-May, and leave for winter quarters around the end of September. According to National Geographic when migrating these birds can fly at altitudes of even 8 km; Tundra Swan flocks usually fly in V formation. The Tundra Swan remains far less known; the European winter population was estimated only at 15,000. About 15% of the adults die each year from various causes, and thus the average lifespan in the wild is about 10 years. The Tundra Swans mate in the late spring, usually after they have returned to the nesting grounds; as usual for swans, they pair monogamously until one partner dies. Should one partner die long before the other, the surviving bird often will not mate again for some years, or even for its entire life.
Photo of Tundra swans taken at the IJmeer near Durgerdam - the Netherlands. The flight call of the latter is a low and soft ringing bark, bow-wow...; the Whistling Swan gives a markedly high-pitched trisyllabic bark like wow-wow-wow in flight.
"A lot of people think that when you have grand scenery, such as you have in Yosemite, that photography must be easy."
-- Galen Rowell
An über-classic shot this time, I admit... But one that will never fade in beauty or fail to impress!
Having spent 6 weeks plodding around in the big cities of the East, North (Chicago by Lake Michigan) and West Coasts of the US, Yosemite was our first jump right back into nature.
The contrast could not have been bigger...
No tall skyscrapers rising from street level, but real rocks towering above the valley floor. No woods of people and cars in all corners, but real forests of pines covering the space between the protagonists of this scene.
And all of this snugly hidden in a valley, unwrapped in the blink of an eye as you break away from the dark confines of the Wawona Tunnel.
In this view from the Wawona Tunnel Overlook, you can see (left to right): the bulky granite mass of 3,000ft high El Capitan, the glacier-sliced Half Dome all the way in the back and the delicate waters of the Bridal Veil Falls.
Single RAW file. No textures, no nothing.

The Story

Be forewarned that if you recognize me on a beach such as Pfeiffer Beach in Big Sur, I will think of you as part of nature and work you in somehow! I met Jared hiding behind the forest of about a dozen tripods. While most of them were taking the same shot, Jared was up there taking the blows for the sake of landscape photography. He had an umbrella that he used as a shield and it did a good job but as you can see in the big version, it did not protect his entire body. But the camera is most important, right?
This is what the edge of nature photography is all about. (Well almost.) Pushing the limits. Risking your equipment on slippery rocks while trying to stay out of the shots of the rest of those that had gathered in this place to see this spectacle. Sure, not everyone is in perfect shape to attempt these feats, but it is good to step out of your comfort zone to see what you can discover regardless of age or disability!
Here is one of the photos that Jared captured at the portal. I think it was taken slightly to the left of where he is in this photo, but you get the idea. Have a look!

You can clearly see the Burj Al Arab, the Jumeira Palm Island and The Atlantis hotel, and the buildings on the far end are in Dubai Marina, where I live.
I don't like the building on the left, but it was very difficult to compose differently as I was already completely on the right side. I also did not want to crop out the building and then cut off the main 'vein' and also lose all the details on the left far end.

The Story
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Even though Pfeiffer beach is a winding and vertically oriented 45 minute drive south of Monterey in Central California, there were about 20 photographers out here trying to capture this famous place during the Dec.-Jan. window when the sun streams through the opening at the best angle. So it is difficult to come up with an original view. But I noticed how all the other photographers had their tripods set up in more or less the same place. So I looked around for a different perspective. And after a bit of browsing on Flickr, I have yet to see a shot that intentionally uses a reflection on the glossy sand of low-tide. I'm sure there is something like this somewhere though. There are just too many people shooting this place. So I had to add something extra that may not be original but at least have it be as good as I can capture it.
The light is especially good when it is sunny but with a bit of mist from the huge waves behind the rock wafting through the hole. On this evening, the slight breeze alternated between onshore and offshore. When it would blow offshore, the mist woould get sucked through the hole and the light-beam effect would disappear. Also, big waves help add drama, especially at low tide when the water barely comes through. At high tide, it is like a water canon and those rocks are slippery so watch out!
Every once in a while during this extra low tide sunset, it would almost appear as though the light were striking the water, sending spray away from the impact point. So I waited for that moment. I chose to step back far behind the other photographers, to include some reflected light off the sand at low tide to add that extra element of interest.
I met some nice people on the two evenings I came here. It was clear so this is the best place to go when there is no drama in the sky. On both evenings, I was recognized by different people. It seems like this happens a lot lately, though I am hardly the celebrity type. Still, it is fun to talk photography and everything!
I have more unusual things from here that I'll show later. This is a great place to experiment.

Ficus macrophylla, commonly known as the Moreton Bay Fig, is a large evergreen banyan tree of the Moraceae family that is a native of most of the eastern coast of Australia, from the Atherton Tableland (17° S) in the north to the Illawarra (34° S) in New South Wales, and Lord Howe Island. Its common name is derived from Moreton Bay in Queensland, Australia. It is best known for its beautiful buttress roots, which are also known for damaging municipal footpaths.

Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941) was a Poet, Philosopher, Musician, Writer, Educator, and the first Indian Nobel Laureate for Literature (1913). Tagore has been labelled the "King of Poets" for his beautiful and exquisite poetry. In particular Tagore had a deep love and reverence for nature which he was able to express through lyrical poetry.
Tagore was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1913 for his book Gitanjali. W.B.Yeats in particular was deeply impressed with this work and wrote an introduction. With this honour Tagore became famous in both India and the West. In 1915 Tagore was knighted by King George, however Tagore was to return his knighthood in protest of the Amritsar massacre (1919)
As a writer, Tagore primarily worked in Bengali, but after his success with Gitanjali, he translated many of his other works into English..
