It was an amazing stroll through the state of Gujrat for two weeks with my dad. Well, I only visited selected locations where I could assume some photo opportunities. At the same time I have spent longer than normal tourists in one location. That is why I couldn't visit those amazing reserve forests. It also require different equipment to seriously photographing the birds and animals. So I gave it a pass for this time.

The Mahabat Maqbara is an amazing architecture built by Nawab Mahabat Khan II of Junagadh. The construction began in 1878 and was completed in 1892. The architecture and the design is stunning. It is a pity that the building is getting ruined without maintenance. One day; probably; it will fall apart and some real estate promoter will acquire the land and raise multi-storied apartments. Unfortunately we Indians are not good at protecting our heritage in the name of cast and religion and political parties and you name it.

However, till now, the building is a treat to watch and explore even in its last some years of existence. I can see that at certain time there were lights probably illuminating the building at night. But they are all ruin now.

Before going to the location I did make some research to find that the sun will set just behind it. So I wanted to capture a back lit shot with the sun going down. I wish my 45 MM TSE had a better star burst as it is in the newer and significantly more expensive 50 MM TSE. But, I had to settle with the resource that was available with me.

This place seems to be very popular for pre-wedding photo shooting. I have seen several groups trying to capture couples with partial background of the building. The warm colored architecture definitely suites pretty well as a background bokeh for portrait. Some of them approached me as king what am I doing and asked me about the TSE. I guess they were wondering what I was trying to do without any flash and why the lens looks strange with all those knobs and screws all around it. I did a bit of explanation. It was nice to discuss with local photographers. I also got to know that the pre-wedding photo session is a latest fashion and about the popularity of this location.

Eventually the right time came and I managed to take few shots. Not very happy about the way the star burst worked. But overall I managed to get a nice light and composition.

One of the Chuck Wagons in the cook off along the Llano river. we ate good at this one., Chicken fried steak, potatoes, beans, roll, and peach cobbler. I viewed this photo in original size ( 8688 X 5792 ). The cowboy with the black hat who was cooking and where i was focusing the camera was very sharp you can see every spec of dust on his hat. I just love the 5DSR & EF- 24-105mm lens combination.

A very cliche image of this landmark. But this is probably the best composition I can found of. I did capture some panoramas and also some from a bit higher viewpoint. One of the morning I have also got an amazing sky with lovely cloud formation. Not very colorful; but the interesting formation. But, this is still my favorite. I like those lines of foreground and the wide view also made the perspective a nit different.

All these are conflict zone now with China. Not sure why all those beautiful places have to be war zones! Few idiots of the government fights for showing their ego and politics and millions suffer for that. The reality of mankind it seems.

Anyway; that was a very fruitful evening. I just get a fantastic reflection some time back and after that this gorgeous light and later in the day some amazing milky way.

I was difficult to capture this image. After some minutes of calm suddenly it became very windy. The 100 400 extends the barrel a lot and catches the wind quickly. So it was hard to get a sharp image. So I had to put the car such a way that it covers the wind and use the cable release and waited for the moment of calm to capture the image. The light was beautiful. Such light is very typical in Ladakh. As I said before as well, I wish to get back to the region for 3 or 4 weeks and explore lesser known places. Hope the conflict and COVID will end and we will be able to get there again soon.

The famous Seljalandsfoss falling from a 60 meter cliff. Something that can be seen in every Icelandic travel book. Just off the main Road 1; this can be seen from far away and is one of the most prominent Icelandic tourist attractions.

Chasing the light. Many landscape photographers call themselves light chaser. That is exactly what we did in Iceland. A photographic trip is not just a trip. It was a quest for the best light. We were driving from one side to the other side of Iceland for getting the best light based on the weather forecast. The forecast changes quickly. So there is no guarantee of good light even after 100s of kilometers of drive. But one must keep trying. There is no space for laziness.

When most of the people were sleeping in their cozy hotel rooms after a nice meal; me and my dad was out there hunting for the best Icelandic landscape on the extended golden hour of the midnight sun.

Places; which are normally full with tourists on the day was completely empty and we had the privilege to have a private visit. It was after a very long time I went for a trip with my dad and we spend three weeks of memorable journey through the ineradicable and unreal landscape of Iceland.

All those efforts pays off when you get the best light and manage to reach to the right place at the right time. This was one of many such occasions and one of many satisfied evenings of our Iceland trip.

More importantly; a great memory to travel with my dad after many many years.

Now that I finally sold off the 5DSR, I feel a bit sad as I actually made some spectacular images with that camera and till date it is still the sharpest camera I have used and I did use some amazing ones including the D850.

Still due to my video requirement; I had to let it go and replace it by a R5 and a R6.

On top; we just came back from a trip of Maldives, so this place is kind of fresh in mind.

Maldives means bright and sunny is not always the case. It is pure tropical. Means you do get some strong cloud and thunderstorm time to time. During that time the place looks a bit different. But I feel it is still amazingly beautiful. This is one example of it. It was only in the afternoon and the sky was dark. Not very normal in February; but weather does change quickly in tropical regions.

With some cool breeze running during a relatively lezzy day; I thought to get a panorama. I feel that came out all right.

What do you think?

Ok. If you have already reached till here; may be you will be interested to see my Maldives experience in a bit more detail!

It has been some time I uploaded a blue hour building shot from Oman. Something that impressed me a lot. Even though Oman is not the name comes to mind first when you talk about architectural photogram. But there are some very interested buildings and they are photogenically lit. This is an example. This is not that much of a famous tourist spot. But I did pass this mosque few times and the architecture looked to me pretty interesting. Specially that small fountain seemed line a beautiful foreground.

So one evening I just went there to capture the blue hour. Took me some time to make the composition specially what should be the height of the tripod. But once I setup the composition; it was more or less straight forward. I was pretty lucky with the sky. In fact I took some sunset shout that I will share another time. I had a lovely patchy line of cloud on the sky which made the normally flat sky of Muscat pretty interesting.

Straight from the page of the history book. These places are pretty interesting and tells a bit of how much the rulers of that time thought about people. Way more than what the politicians do today!

I got a change to visit some important places of the Indian state of Gujrat. As I didn't have enough time, I have chosen some of the places that could be of photographic interest for me. I wish I had a bit more time and I could visit the wild life reserves. But I kept that for another time.

The Dada Harir Vav (Stepwell) is not that touristic compared to other places. We also visited the Adalaj Vav. That being more popular; was much more crowded and that was pretty disruptive for photography. Compared to that when we went to Dada Harir Vav; it was almost empty for me to explore on my own pace and in a tranquil manner.

I took several pictures. But only the architecture looked a bit empty to me. So I deiced to make myself as an object. I found this is an interesting place to read something. I didn't have a book with me. So, I asked my dad to borrow a news paper from the nearby tea stall to mimic that environment of reading. Well, it was a Urdu new paper and I can't read it really. But it was good enough for staging the image. :)

Big thanks to my dad for all the arrangements. It was lovely to have a father and son trip together. Discuss about old memories and create new memories.

Another big thanks to my college friend Mani who actually took similar image and that made me wonder about those locations. Otherwise I would have probably skipped.

A recent trip to Munich has me re-evaluating my original impression of the city. It looks like a lovely place to live, illustrated by the beauty of the built environment. Here's a few examples of public spaces that are very well thought out; there are countless more but alas I wasn't able to visit them all.

Getting used to the FoV on this 25mm Milvus lens.

Due to the weight/size of the Milvus 25, it was ever so slightly bending the add-on F to EF mount adapter I was using to mount it to my 5DSr. This lack of alignment was resulting in sub-standard sharpness and uncharacteristic Chromatic Abrasion for this lens.

I ended up getting the lens mount hard changed by Duclos in Los Angeles and am happy to finally be able to use it in my kit.

Another place I had been ~25 years ago is Yosemite, and it too was very enjoyable seeing it again as an adult and with loved ones.

Special thanks to the delivery fella in nearby Oakhurst who brought treats to enjoy.

Some viewpoints were blocked off to visit and there was smoke in the valley brought on by controlled fires but overall it was a beautiful day to visit and I'm thankful for the shots brought back.

It was my dream to visit the Ladakh region of India. A region I visited 30 years back with very fade memory. The landscape there is so surreal and those rocks start burning with the golden light of the sun. On top going to a that altitude is also an attraction in itself!

This particular day was super windy and cloudy. I still went to the location in hope of a break and there were some breaks. The golden light was hitting the mountains after every few minutes through the breaks of the cloud. The scene was ineradicable. I did capture some timelapse and there it is more clear on how the the light ans shade moved through. Overall a good decision to get to that location even with not that favorable weather!
