Male Mopsus mormon shot with Canon 5Dsr and EF100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM . 8 x shot handheld focus stack. I have been waiting years to see and photograph one of these, lovn that hair do.
For about 5-6 years now I've had an annual goal of one suitable image for every week of the year. I see the year 2021 as a setback in terms of photography as it was the first year I failed to meet that arbitrary goal. Indeed I hadn't used my camera *at all* since the Autumn.
So hopefully, these two outings after work put me back on track for 2022. I'm simply going to have to force myself to take my camera places I wouldn't normally, and point it at things that I wouldn't normally.

With autumn is full swing already, it is customary to share an autumn image at this time of the year. :)
So here it comes a capture from last year. In general I love waterfalls or in fact any landscape with water in it. It can be a lake, ocean or waterfall. But at the end waterfall is probably my favorite. It is even more interesting if that is in an autumn environment.
It does take some local knowledge to find out such hidden gems of Switzerland. This whole region transforms into a fairyland in autumn. A walk through those forests is an wonderful experience. The trick is to start as early as possible. Because the region gets a lot of mist early morning and that is fantastic for the perfect mood of the autumn landscape.
That is why I started at dark 6AM. It is 1.5 hours of drive from my place. So I was there by sunrise. It was a clear day. So I had to complete the shot before the sun hits the gorge and make the contract and reflection in the water impossible to manage. So I quickly found some compositions, setup the tripod and captured couple of images.

C/2021 A1 Leonard . Canon 5DSr on Skywatcher Quattro 250P , 4 X 30 sec exposures stacked . Have had nothing but clouds for weeks here, finally got a break in the weather and got my astro setup out again after a good 6 month break. Took a while to remember everything involved . had a 2 hour window of oppurtunity just after sunset to get the christmas comet through a tiny gap in the trees in my backyard .Not what I was hoping to get , but only having a tiny window of opurtunity and relearning all the parts and software to drive the telescope , here is my attempt of Comet Leonard .

The very common image from the Sils lake. You can find many shapes and form of this over internet. I did manage to get one of mine as well. I was lucky with the cloud. However this was my 4th attempt of this image in my 5 days of stay there.
I wish I had a bit of snow on those mountains. It was cold enough; but due to lack of rain lat year; there was no snow. It is completely opposite this year though. We had only one good weekend. In fact probably only 1.5 good and bright days this autumn so far. Rest of the time was cloudy and rainy. Fantastic for capturing fall color, but not so good for this kind of shot.
Still; the overall setting of this location is mind boggling. In fact the whole region is amazingly beautiful with several large lakes and beautiful natural compositions.

This is probably why I went to Maldives. I was not that lucky with the weather for first couple of days. When the sun came out; it was amazingly spectacular. Just jaw dropping. In fact it was the first time I couldn't decide what to photograph. Every corner I see; I felt like capturing an image. The swallow water was full of different fishes that can be seen from above the water. The color of the water was green for the swallow part and deep blue where the depth increases. The resort had an infinity pool. After some hours of photography under the warm sun; it was lovely to cool down and soak the natural beauty from inside the pool. Overall; this was one of the best trip I have ever had.

You can see drops of water on the flowers and a Bee hiding. I took this photo with a Canon 5DSR and a Canon 24 to 105mm lens the photo was sharp enough that I could crop it at 76% and I still like it.

It was great fun capturing this image. We went close and low to the Tiber river and tried to look for some reflection. It was a very calm day. So the chance of having reflection was high. Finally with a bit of search we did manage to find a good composition. So we setup everything and started waiting for the right moment.
We got really lucky that the wind stays under control till the evening. At the same time the water level of the river was really low as there was no rain in Rome this summer. It was almost an emergency for water crisis and several fountains were closed including the famous fountain in the Vatican. You can see those rocks in the river. Something that is nor normal. As the water level was low; the reflection was easier to get as the river almost had no flow.
We finished capturing the blue hour and the wind picked up. In fact by the time we were ready to leave by packing our camera bag; the reflection was already gone! So we were lucky that we could capture the shot. Without the reflection it would have been nothing close to how it looks with it.

a wide field shot of the Milky Way Core, with Lagoon and Trifid Nebula's shining bright in the centre. Canon 5Dsr with 70 -200mm L . 25 x frames of 100 sec each stacked to give around 40 mins of exposure. Love the dark dust here amongst all the billions of stars.
After what seemed like rain all day, the clouds decided to break so I grabbed the camera and headed out to Abinger Roughs in the Surrey Hills - a place I'd previously scouted.
This loan tree, spit down the trunk and half dead half alive managed to cling on to its isolated spot on top of a small hill. I was fortunate enough to capture a fantastic sunrise, adding to the mood and drama of the scene.

It was an experience I can't really explain by words or by an image. Africa is any way a special place that everyone saw in the National Geographic programs. But once you end up there you feel like being in a television set. Probably because we saw such things only in a television and we feel this being a movie set than real. At least that was my situation there. I just couldn't believe if all that I am watching are real. Even though I did enough research before going and I was absolutely sure of what to expect. When I really started watching all those landscapes; I was pretty much spellbound. Probably because you don't see the scale of it when it is watched on a TV!
So here it is. One of the unnamed dunes on the way back from Dune 45. I have marked some of them on my way. Normally people stay in the Namib-Naukluft National Park for a day or tow. I was there four nights as I was sure that only couple of days will not be enough for me. I think I should have stayed few more days. May be next time! Most of the people go to the most popular spots straight away and they becomes crowded. But there are hidden gems all over the place. Yes, those and bit far from the road and may need some walk to reach there. So a photographer's job is to find those, understand the best time of the day to photograph them and make a mini plan and execute it. But it all takes time. Now I am probably more prepared for that.
This is one of many such locations I have marked. The sudden arrival of the Gemsboks added way more to the image than what I initially expected.
I have seen several other people stopping far from me near the road after noticing my car and then the formation of the sand and the light condition. However; the art is to get close to it and compose it properly. It gets hot during the day and the heat wave creates detraction to make images softer. So getting closer to the dune is important. At the same time one shouldn't be too close as that will hide the curves. That is why I was somewhere in between. Not too close at the same time not too far. To do so; I had to walk 20 minutes from the car. But most others stopping near my car actually didn't bother and captured whatever they could from the road.
This is probably one place where I saw the most impact of a polarizer. The golden light of the low sun was otherwise almost invisible due to the reflections on the heatwave. As soon as I put the polarizer; I captured a completely different image. A scene that I was watching as I was wearing a polarized sun glass. The different with and without the polarization was really dramatic here.

I was in Petra for three days and I went out there with the opening of the gate every day. The three day pass is just a bit more costly than the day pass. So it was actually pretty economical as a whole. The disadvantage was that I missed the lovely breakfast of the hotel all those day. But I went there to enjoy, feel and photograph these ancient monuments and not for eating breakfast. So I didn't mind a lot.
The first glance of The Treasury was exciting. These are locations that we have seen in movies, read about in history book for many many years and to stand in front of it is a feeling of accomplishment. A feeling I can't explain in words. Even almost a year later whenever I see these images; I can recollect the memory of being there. I consider myself lucky for being able to visit these places in person. Naturally; I didn't want to miss any photo opportunities.
From photography perspective; it was a tough location with nicely lit Treasury and the dark Siq. So I ended up bracketing the shot and blend them later. The poor dynamic range of the Canon didn't help this time. But the final result was not disappointing.

For what I regard as one of the best views in the world, I really should drag myself up Arthur's Seat a bit more often. Not every city has an extinct volcano the height of a skyscraper in its city centre, but we do. It's hard work huffing it up to the top, but on this occasion I was well rewarded.

This is a 100% cropped photo of the landscaped grounds at Boldt Castle. I liked using the tree stump as a planter. The Canon 5DSR is so sharp that you can crop at 100% and still get a sharp photo. Tomorrow I am going to post the photo this came from "Boldt Castle 4A".
