The autumn in Engadin was in the top of my list for many years. But I never managed to keep enough holidays to spend some time in this arguably most beautiful region of Switzerland. The autumn color here is as spectacular as it can get. The setting is from the classic Fairytale of Swiss mountains. The lakes are amazing and the perfect early morning light and mist makes it absolutely jaw dropping. I couldn't believe what I was witnessing. It was just out of the world.
A bit of snow would have been every more attractive. In fact this was the perfect time for the snow as the temperature early morning was around -5°C. But as last year was the driest in Switzerland there was no snowfall. In fact the week after the whole region was covered with 60 centimeters of snow. I got to know from one of my colleague who is from the region and the live webcam shows that as well. I wish I had some of them on the week I was there to enhance the experience a bit more. But hey, it is always good to have an opportunity to get then next time.
This was the first time I used the 300 MM F2.8 lens to make landscape work. It is bulky, heavy and too long for landscape work. But the quality is mind boggling. When it fits the situation, there is nothing that can beat the beast. I missing my polarizer though!

As near as the Short Eared Owl came at the weekend, but great to see a couple active in good light, so managed to keep the ISO down to 100.
Part of my campaign for more people to consider the Canon 5DSr for wildlife photography - especially in good light. The original shot is included below - as you can see the owl was still miles away!
They are sure to leave our shores soon, hence my opera reference!

Yeh I know. Not a normal sunset sunrise image of mine, but this scene is also very rare. Now a days due to global warming the winter had postponed and by the time the snow really comes the leaves are gone. However this year things became a bit different. There was few very cold days late autumn and that was a perfect opportunity of capture such image.

A wonderful warm sunrise this morning on a cold winters walk along the river thames. It's a bank holiday today so despite it being 8am on a Monday there were very few people about. After shooting around tower bridge and taking this, I got the tube home and went back to bed :-)

An old image if the Ice Beach of Jökulsárlón from 2016. I am planning to visit Iceland again next week. So think is kind of warm up of what I expect to see there.
However, things have dramatically changed. I have seen fencing in many places that were very much open in 2016, the temperature became warmer, so no idea if I will get ice at the beach or not.
So even though I have a good experience of visiting Iceland from last time, I get a mixed feeling for this time.
This time it will be family trip. So let's see how much photography I can really do!
Last time me and my dad kind of chased the light based on the forecast. This is one of the pleasing result of that. This time I also intend to do the same. Only thing is that the weather of whole Europe seems to be a bit pale this year. So I am a bit in two minds. Iceland is expensive and the last thing you want there are many washed out days!
Now coming back to this image. We followed the light based in the forecast and that was one of few spectacular days we had in our stay. It we during summer solicit. So I had almost 3 hours of golden hour. Means, I could search my composition while the sky was burning. Luckily; I did find some after a bit of walk through the beach.

Short visit to the Rheinland. A view from 15km distance to the skyline of Cologne at a cloudy day, the sunset view was very limited but anyway a non common view on Cologne. You can see the dust/smog at a very warm day.
Now I know why to use the 50MP of the canon 5dsr, a crop still allows 8MP!

Yet another image from the evening with amazing light. The light stayed for almost 3 hours with the sky lit with the golden light. I have taken several images. As you can imagine; I was not the only one out there with cameras. There were several other photographers trying to capture similar frame. Iceland is truly a paradise for photographers. One will not get tired to go back to the same location again and again to search the best light!
But important is to be patient and stubborn. A nature photography trip is not a holiday or going out shooting the neighborhood with friends. The right light comes once in a while. Specially in Iceland where the weather is unpredictable and mostly dull. So be there to the same location again and again, following the weather, stay up almost whole night are few of the handles to capture the beautiful light. Being said that; when you succeed to get the right condition; it is a treat to watch and photograph.
I am happy to go there few more times. However; the ISK has increased in value sharply. There are huge numbers of tourists going to Iceland every year and the count has also increased dramatically. Means more demand than supply and that made things even more expensive. So I am not sure if it will be very affordable to go to Iceland anymore sooner. That makes me think twice before booking a flight to Reykjavik for the third time. I can probably visit another beautiful and unseen corner of the world with the same amount of money. Not sure how long I can resist myself though. :)

Yet another location to photograph the small and beautiful Areuse Gorge. That area is fantastic. If you like to stay close to civilization but feel the nature, this is probably the place to be. Suddenly everything disappears and your get into deep nature. The setting is like a perfect fairy tail. If you go early in an autumn morning, there is a high chance of mist there and that makes it perfect for waterfall photography as well as for that romantic and painting like mood.
I did manage to make a video this time. My very starting and many things went wrong. For example I had bit of flickering in certain clips due to wrong shutter speed. There are so many things to remember when capturing videos. But good that I figured out the error and hopefully next time I will get it fixed. But overall, the story is nice and was a good memory of the day out with my son.

I do love a rooftop view I do. Same view as the other two, different time: night. That completes the trifecta.

This tornado! Never get tired of it :) I've been wanting to take some frames from the time-lapse of this guys and do more fine turning on the editing...so I'm finally getting around to doing that. This was one of the first few frames I shot when I got to this spot south of Wynnewood, Oklahoma on May 9th, 2016.
You can see the time-lapse of this at the end of Vorticity, but it's cropped a bit so you miss out on the beautiful structure above that twister.
Part of doing the fine tuning was removing the powerlines, because while it's too difficult to do in a time-lapse, I really disliked them and wanted this to feel more in the middle of nowhere.
If you can't tell, I'm dying to get out chasing. Just about three weeks until my schedule is open and I can head out!
