I always wanted to take an image of this spectacular building. But in my every trip to Rome I had some reason of missing that opportunity. Sometime I didn't have enough time, sometime there are contraction work going on. But this time there were no road block. So finally I did manage to capture it.
Piazza Venezia is the central hub of Rome, Italy, in which several thoroughfares intersect, including the Via dei Fori Imperiali and the Via del Corso. It takes its name from the Palazzo Venezia, built by the Venetian Cardinal, Pietro Barbo (later Pope Paul II) alongside the church of Saint Mark, the patron saint of Venice. The Palazzo Venezia served as the embassy of the Republic of Venice in Rome.
One side of the Piazza is the site of Italy's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the Altare della Patria, part of the Monument to Vittorio Emanuele II, first king of Italy.
The piazza or square is at the foot of the Capitoline Hill and next to Trajan's Forum. The main artery, the Via di Fori Imperiali begins there and leads past the Roman Forum to the Colosseum.
Capitalizing on this modern and ancient symbolism--and the useful open space--Piazza Venezia was the location of public speeches given by the Italian dictator Mussolini to crowds of his supporters in the 1920s-1940s.

Putting this one up for sale as I move to all mirrorless bodies.
One of my favorites due to the massive sensor size, its just not a camera that I use very much any more so its time to move on.

Another shot from last week, was very grateful for my first chance to see these wonderful birds since last winter. Seem to be far fewer about this year.
Always mesmerising to watch with their slow 'moth like' flight.

I know this picture was probably taken 1000s of time. But this is one version that I can say as mine and can see in a very large screen with all the details of the mountain and the art work in the Stupa itself. Being said that; it was not very easy to capture this shot. Firstly there are 100s of people around all over the time. Seconds the shoes all over the place. So I set it up and waited for very long time to get a small window where there were no one in the frame except the shoes. I ran and hide the shoes behind that small sigh of "GO CLOCK WISE" and captures the shot. The shot looked a bit empty so I ran and stand there and asked my father to click a shot and here it is.
I was not so lucky in my first day in Leh. The sky was overcast and not that interesting. This day I saw the sky and I knew it will be good. So we rushed to the Shanti Stupa to capture an image that is close to my imagination. There are many things to consider like the angle of the sun, the formation of the cloud. These all add up to the final image. I was there on time and had to wait almost 40 minutes to get not more than 1 minute window to capture this place like a king. Don't expect this place to be lonely. This is normally very famous and stay pretty crowded. But with some patience you will get some small window to capture such image.
I did manage to capture it also during dusk. They didn't switch on all those lights; but with some colorful light it was not that bad. Will share that sometime later.
Click here to see the short film documenting the natural beauty of the region as I have seen. A longer version of the film is coming soon.

I am still a bit in shock at what we were able to witness. My friend and I went on a spur the moment trip to Big Island of Hawaii to document a bit of the Kilauea Volcano action going on right now. The first day, June 16, 2018, we chartered a helicopter with Paradise Helicopters and the second day we did the Lava Boat Tour. It was an incredible experience, to say the least, but also very eye-opening and pretty sad. Seeing the area where over 400 (over 600 now I believe) homes were taken out was pretty crazy. Seeing how fast the lava was flowing out the fissure 8 was even crazier, as seen in this collection. But seeing Kapoho Bay completely filled within days and Leilani Estates practically gone, was definitely the most shocking part. I guess we have to still remember these islands were formed by lava to begin with.
“Since May 3, 2018, Kilauea has erupted more than 110 million cubic meters of lava. This fissure has produced a lava fountain pulsing to heights of 185 to 200 feet (55 to 60 meters).”
These shots was taken on June 16 & 17, 2018.
A beautiful early morning glow, it was cold and clear.

A shot I got of the lava fountain of fissure 8 on June 16, 2018, part of the Kilauea volcano. It is crazy to think this fissure can reach over 200 feet (so I read). Was insane to see how fast the river of lava was flowing.

Today is yet another muddy, windy, cloudy, rainy weekend. Initially I planned to go for capturing some waterfalls. These are great days for photographing waterfalls. But the heavy wind doesn't help. So I have to spend the weekend lazy indoor.
That is why decided to post an old waterfall picture from last year. I went to this place before. But the water quality was not that great. The perfect amount of water is really important for good waterfall photography and that also differs based on the nature of the waterfall. For this one; large amount of water is better as that fills all the streams creating better effect of water. That is why this second attempt after heavy rain.

Papiliorama is the butterfly garden. It is a very interesting location. Probably the best time to go there is in winter. During the cold and dry winter it is nice to spend some time inside hot and humid tropical weather. But in general, it is an amazing place to be.
This trip was different. My son was asking me to take him there for some time. Specially after getting his own camera, he is getting a bit of interest in photography like his father. Not bad. We can go to father-son photo trips. Like I did few time with my dad.
I bought this 100 MM Macro IS lens for my dad. I wanted to test it before I send it to him. The best place to do it is in Papiliorama. At the same time I took my son with me as well so that he can also try bit of macro photography with his new camera.
It is not that easy to take good pictures of butterflies. They are normally very shy and erratic. However, they do stay very still when they rest or eat. That is what one has to target. This means a lot of patience. So, we ended up spending almost 6 hours there to end up capturing 10 images. I didn't expect my son to be that patience. But it seems either he really liked the place or he is really into taking pictures as he didn't really complain that much.
Overall, it was a good day out. Took some nice pictures, tested the lens; which turned out to be excellent. Spend some time eating lunch with my son and talked a lot with him. The little one has so many questions. It is really adorable to hear all those and he really felt great that I was listening to him and answering to his questions serious. Definitely a special day to register in the memory lane.
