The Great Replacement, XI, The Place d’Italie Speech, sans finir, car je tembais de sommeil. En revanche j’ai pu inaugurer le travail sur l’album Le Jour ni l’Heure 2023 (il n’y a plus qu’un acheteur, donc deux exemplaires, car j’en fais faire un aussi pour ici) — exploré janvier-mai, il ya plus de candidates à la sélection que je ne le pensais. P-39 digs in while one of her kittens looks on. Because biologists estimate her age at only three to four years old in this photo (taken in spring 2015), it's possible this is P-39's first litter of kittens.

Another reason I haven't been getting much photography done. Tonight is last night of The 39 Steps, a play I've been performing in the Edinburgh Fringe. It's been an absolute blast. Thanks to everyone involved... :)

Des Moines Public Schools sixth grade students, who will attend McCombs Middle School this fall, participated in a Success 4 Sixth Grade day camp prior to the start of the new academic year. The free, one-day camp was offered to incoming students who are all transitioning from elementary to middle school. To help encourage all students to take advantage of the opportunity, lunch and transportation from a number of elementary schools were provided.
The experience was intended to ease the transition into middle school by providing sixth graders with an opportunity to get to know other students, the school building, build leadership skills, and discover just about everything they needed to know about their new school, including the secret to opening hall lockers in record time.
Campers rotated through a variety of activities, both indoors and out, which focused on empowering students to learn new skills, socialize, ask questions, build teamwork, and develop a comfort level with the new environment before the potentially overwhelming excitement and chaos of the first day of school.
Following an official morning check-in and welcome, building tours familiarized students with the location of sixth grade classrooms, offices for the administration, attendance center, nurse, counselors and SUCCESS workers, the art and music rooms, library, gymnasium, cafeteria, and restrooms.
Information about daily routines was presented, such as when the building doors open, when breakfast is served, when to go to the auditorium, when a hall pass is necessary, helpful hints for passing between classes, which areas of the building are off limits to sixth graders, and how to participate in extra-curricular activities.
Indoor activities included school-themed trivia-style games of Kahoot, Family Feud, and a scavenger hunt using tablets to answer questions and locate various destinations throughout the building. Scavenger hunt groups were asked to make a short video documenting the results of their journey.
Summer temperatures were no deterrent to outdoor activities, which included rousing games of Lock and Key Tag, Rock-Paper-Scissors, Peek-A-Who, and Have You Ever. Outdoor activities combined traditional game elements with customized twists which encouraged students to incorporate strategy, teamwork, leadership, ownership, individuality, and accountability, while interacting and having fun.
Success 4 Sixth Grade day-camp was offered at 10 different middle school locations throughout the urban district. SUCCESS case managers, along support from district education staff, organized and ran the camps. The role of SUCCESS case managers is to ensure that barriers to student and family success are identified and removed, such as helping to reduce the risk of students dropping out of school by providing intensive wrap around services to at-risk students and their families, by providing social-emotional and academic supports, and by brokering community-based resources.
