Prussian KPEV Class P10 (DRG Class 39) 2-8-2 No.39 230 (MBG No.2308 of 1937) in works grey at the German Steam Locomotive Museum, Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg, 6 May 2016. The P10's were Prussia's last passenger/mixed traffic design mainly for express passenger services in mountainous areas. It was designed by August Meistler of Borsig, 260 being built by the firm in 1922-27. The design was ready for production in 1919 but material shortages after WWI delayed their construction until after the KPEV had been absorbed into the DRB, who adopted it as an interim standard until their own standard designs could be introduced. They were the most powerful of all the Landerbahnen designs but suffered from inconsistent steaming, their belpair fireboxes being too small for their long boilers whilst they had rather tortuous steam passages. After the war the DB inherited 175 and the DR 85, which were rebuilt as 'Rekolok' Class 22's (later Class 39.1) in 1958-62 with high-performance all-welded boilers and improved steam passages. Their overall performance and efficiency improved greatly but their old frames couldn't cope with the greater power and severe frame cracking resulted. In addition, many pistons were badly damaged too. As a result, all were withdrawn by 1971 although 9 continued to be used as stationary boilers into the 1990's.

Hi Flickr, how have you been?

I did have delusions of catching up on all the weeks that had passed where I hadn't posted a photo, but realised that the year would be over before that occurred, so I jump back on the 52 week, 2013 edition, with many missing images, but back just the same.

We have just spent a wonderful week at Caloundra, which is on the Sunshine Coast, north of Brisbane. Our family has great memories of this place, and we added many more on this trip.

The image is of our daughter and a friend rock hopping.

getting laid off and being unemployed ain't so bad.

today's week 2. i finally feel comfortable with letting myself relax.

i made jewelry all day. drank tea. read. jotted down some portfolio ideas. watched some dr. who (my newest guilty pleasure).

i could really get used to this life ;)

dress: my boss had brought this in for textile print inspiration. as we were cleaning out our offices, i took it for my own. yay!

origami shoes: santee alley. many moons ago. i think wearing cheap,but cute shoes like this have given me a bad ankle. ha.

L-39 Albatros by Steve Tron

The Aero L-39 Albatros is a high-performance jet trainer aircraft developed in Czechoslovakia to meet requirements for a "C-39" (C for cvičný – trainer) during the 1960s to replace the L-29 Delfín as the main training aircraft.[2] It was the first of the second-generation jet trainers, and the first turbofan-powered trainer produced, and was later updated as the L-59 Super Albatros and as the L-139 (prototype L-39 with Garrett TFE731 engine).

A further development of the design, the L-159 ALCA, began production in 1997. To date, more than 2,800 L-39s have served with over 30 air forces around the world. The Albatros is the most widely used jet trainer in the world; in addition to performing basic and advanced pilot training, it has also flown combat missions in a light-attack role. Atypically, it has never received a NATO reporting name.

The honorable Beryl A. Howell, chief judge for United States District Court for the District of Columbia, swore in several dozen new U.S. citizens from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on Sept. 16, 2016. Her protective detail from the U.S. Marshals as well as the Marshal for the District of Columbia, Patrick Burke and Chief Deputy Robert Turner were also in attendance.

Taken on Feb 8, 2009. It was a Sunday. We had a long day at the parks. We went all day long. Left in the morning and didn't go back to the hotel until night. No break before dinner! I think we did Hollywood that day. Grrltravels went back with the two little ones to the hotel for naps and the rest of us kept on truckin'. We saw lots of shows! Disney Live, Little Mermaid, etc. I think that was the day we did this at least.

Then we met Grrl at Epcot for dinner in Germany. Poor Zoe puked all night the night this was taken. Initially I thought it was the food that made her sick, but her sickness lasted so dang long that I'm certain she had a bug.
