The past two days have been about collages and diptychs on Shutter Sisters. I decided to do my twist on the left brain / right brain diptych and display a couple of keyboards I use often -- the left for work, the right for play.

My older son left for school today.

Day 15 of 365.

We stopped on the main street of Angels Camp and walked into a fabulous rock store called Stories In Stones.

True to his store's name, owner Russ Shoemaker told us these great stories about agates and geodes and fossils. "I love everything about the Earth Sciences," he proudly told us. "I'm 86. My dad showed me my first rocks when I was 8. And I've loved rocks ever since."

Angels Camp is also famous for Mark Twain's story " The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County".

It was an intense day that I am reporting (but not photographing) in hindsight. Another big screening which went very well, but stressful, then getting packed and out to Pomona for the evening. As you will see in the next 365, I forgot something very important at home.....

Went to a garage sale with my wife and picked up one of these cool thermometers ($1) that drop these little orbs as the water heats up (this one is about 2' tall). Thought it would make a nice POTD. 270 down

Day 78 of 365.

Maybe a reason why all the doors are closed

So you could open one that leads you to the perfect road

Like a lightning bolt, your heart will glow

And when it's time you'll know

- Katy Perry, "Firework"

Today we hang our "Going Out of Business" sign on Chicks & Frogs and it's a good thing.

As an entrepreneur, as a parent, hell, even as an adult, learning to say "No, thanks" is one of the most important lessons you learn.

My talented, creative, beautiful partner put her heart and soul into Chicks & Frogs and it came along at just the right time.

Entrepreneurship has many lessons for parenting. And parenting has many lessons for entrepreneurship.

We're closing this door on Chicks & Frogs so that a new one that leads to our "perfect road" can open.

When the second cruiser pulls up and the third rolls by...you're probably not driving away with a warning....

305.365 - November 1, 2013 - I'm so excited! Okay,so I know I don't look excited in this photo but I ordered a new soft box this week and it arrived today! It's nothing too special but I'm excited nonetheless! It's 24x34 so it's a pretty good sized which I've been wanting for awhile. I can't wait to take some portraits using it and the only candidate I had to model today was myself. Sorry about that! It's not the greatest photo, but it was a quick shoot using the soft box.

Strobist Info:

Yongnuo YN-560 II fired through ePhoto 24"x34" soft box at 1/8 power and Yongnuo YN-560 II camera right pointed toward ceiling with cap diffuser fired at 1/16 power.for a little fill light. Both flashes fired using RF triggers
