Ti kouka - Cabbage tree - Cordyline australis.
Commonly known as the Cabbage tree, Tī is a widely branched monocot tree endemic to New Zealand. It grows up to 20 metres (66 ft) tall with a stout trunk and sword-like leaves, which are clustered at the tips of the branches and can be up to 1 metre (3 ft) long.
With its tall, straight trunk and dense, rounded heads, C. australis is a characteristic feature of the New Zealand landscape. Sillouetted against the skyline, the cabbage tree is an iconic symbol of New Zealand.
Its fruit is a favourite food source for the New Zealand pigeon and other native birds. It is common over a wide latitudinal range from the far north of the North Island at 34° 25'S to the south of the South Island at 46° 30'S. It grows in a broad range of habitats, including forest margins, river banks and open places, and is abundant near swamps. The largest known tree with a single trunk is growing at Pakawau, Golden Bay. It is estimated to be 400 or 500 years old, and stands 17 metres (56 ft) tall with a circumference of 9 metres (30 ft) at the base. Known to Māori as Tī kōuka, the tree (in particular its large taproot) was used as a source of food, particularly in the South Island, where it was cultivated in areas where other crops would not grow. It provided durable fibre for textiles, anchor ropes, fishing lines, baskets, waterproof rain capes and cloaks, and sandals. It is also grown as an ornamental tree in Northern Hemisphere countries with mild maritime climates, including the warmer parts of Britain, where its common names include Torquay palm. Hardy and fast growing, C. australis is widely planted in New Zealand gardens, parks and streets, and numerous cultivars are available.
Before it flowers, it has a slender unbranched stem. After the first flowering, it divides to form a much-branched crown with tufts of leaves at the tips of the branches. Each branch may fork after producing a flowering stem. The pale to dark grey bark is corky, persistent and fissured, and feels spongy to the touch.
The long narrow leaves are sword-shaped, erect, dark to light green, 40 to 100 cm (15–40 in) long and 3 to 7 cm (12–28 in) wide at the base, with numerous parallel veins. Leaves grow in crowded clusters at the ends of the branches, and may droop slightly at the tips and bend down from the bases when old.
In spring and early summer, sweetly perfumed flowers are produced in large, dense panicles (flower spikes) 60 to 100 cm (2–3 ft) long. The flowers are crowded along the ultimate branches of the panicles. The fruit is a white berry 5 to 7 mm (2–3 in) in diameter which is greedily eaten by birds. The nectar attracts great numbers of insects to the flowers.

Day 3 in Gdansk started with a wander to follow some Christmassy music - a local church was hosting a St Nicholas Day fete, including a guy dressed as St Nicholas. There was also food available in the form of bread, some sort of spread (herring?) and gerkhins (eugh yuk! not for me!), as well as cake.
After this distraction we headed to the Gdansk shipyard gates and the Monument to the Fallen Shipyard Workers 1970 which we had promised to take mum too.
We stopped off at the pieces of the Berlin Wall and Gdansk shipyard wall for quick photos.
Whilst at the Monument we heard and almighty noise of engines and horns honking. We had seen an unusually high police pressence as we walked by and wondered what was going on but we had no idea what to expect. Curiosity got the better of me and Paul (and mum and dad followed) and we came to see hundreds of people on motorbikes dressed as Santas (turns out there were 2300 bikes and 2900 participants - according to a Flickr source). The noise was unbelievable (although Paul tells me not as noisy as race days). Everyone dressed up was very festive. It is a charity event, collecting money for children's charities.
We stopped one guy dressed in a City of Westminster flourescent jacket - I asked if he was English and the answer was no. I asked if he had worked in England and again the answer was no. Somehow he had acquired a City of Westminster Keep the Streets Clean jacket. Very bizarre.
Paul and I very, very briefly toyed with whether we could come over next year on his bike. We quickly rejected the idea as (a) there were no other nationality's bikes and (b) it was freezing cold, and travelling across West and Central Europe on a bike in December wasn't that appealing!
Mum and Dad left us to watch the bikes and went off to the Solidarity / Solidarnosc Roads to Freedom exhibition and Paul and I spent some more time bike spotting and then headed for drinks and more gorgeous cakes.
After meeting with Mum and Dad and them having cakes too, we all headed to the bus stop as we intended to go and see Westerplatte where WW2 began. We looked at the bus times and unfortunately there was just one bus, which ran every 40 mins and which ran a limited service in Winter. Due to the time we couldn't guarantee getting back into Gdansk and we couldn't guarantee there would be taxis available, so sadly we had to opt out of the visit.
Instead Mum and Dad headed into Gdansk for a wander and Paul and I headed to the Christmas Market (which turned out to be a market, which only a slight Christmas flavour) and did some Christmas shopping for Paul and shared a Polish sausage which was yummy and filled a gap.
In the evening we headed out for food at the Sphinx restaurant which served, well, we weren't sure as the menu was entirely in Polish. Case of guess work and checking with the waiter who then served whatever we pointed to!
After food it was to Cafe Ferber once again for more drinks - Paul had a Bubble Gum shake which he said was too sickly. It was nice for a sip but I think he was brave to drink the lot. I stuck to Vodka.
Then it was a final few Christmas light photos and a relatively early night. We got up at 3am the next morning in order to catch a minibus which didn't turn up. So we took a taxi to the airport for our 6am flight home.

Notes: The Scanpenn (5,302 grt, 410 ft. long) was built as the Bird City in 1919 - one of a large series of transports built for the
U.S. Shipping Board and known as "Hog Islanders", named after the location of the shipbuilder's yard. She worked for the
American Scantic Line before the line was bought from the Shipping Board by Moore & McCormack in 1927.
Together with 5 sisters, the Bird City was purchased by Moore & McCormack shortly afterwards.
She was converted (with three of her sisters) to a passenger-cargo liner in 1932 and renamed Scanpenn.
The Scanpenn and her sister the Scanmail were also used on the American Caribbean Line service
during a few winter seasons in the mid-1930s, alternating with summer season service to the Baltic.
Following the arrival of new tonnage, all ships used on the American Scantic Line were sold to Lloyd Brasileiro in 1939. The Scanpenn then became the Buarque. She was torpedoed and sunk off the coast of North Carolina in 1942.

A delicate crystalline frost, known as hoar frost, developed overnight Sunday, Jan. 3 in the Twin Towns Area.
The Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee is now the home of the National Civil Rights Museum. It is the site where Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King was assassinated.
The Windsor Hotel, at the corner of Mulberry Street and Huling Avenue near downtown Memphis, opened in the 1920s. Walter and Loree Bailey purchased the Windsor in 1942 and re-named it the Lorraine Hotel, after both Loree and the song "Sweet Lorraine".
In the days of legal segregation, the Windsor / Lorraine was one of the few hotels in Memphis open to black guests. Its location, walking distance from Beale Street, the main street of Memphis' black community, made it attractive to visiting celebrities. When Louis Armstrong, Sarah Vaughan, or Nat "King" Cole came to town, they stayed at the Lorraine.
Later, an annex, typical in design of motels built along America's new interstate highways in the 1960s, was added behind the original mustard-yellow brick hotel.
In March 1968, the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King visited Memphis to support the city's striking garbage collectors. He checked into the Lorraine, and led a march that, despite his policy of non-violence. turned violent. A second march was then planned.
On April 3, in a speech at Memphis Mason Temple, Dr. King said "We've got some difficult days ahead. But it really doesn't matter with me now, because I've been to the mountain top. I won't mind. Like anybody, I would like to live a long life."
Dr. King was assassinated at the Lorraine the next night, as he stood on the balcony outside room 306, on the motel's second floor. The official account of the shooting named a single assassin, James Earl Ray, who fired one shot from the top floor of a rooming house whose rear windows overlooked the motel.
After the assassination, the Lorraine became a residential motel which Walter Bailey, who still owned it, operated at a loss. He declared bankruptcy in 1982, and the motel was ordered sold. There was a real possibility of losing the historic buildings to developers. On the morning of the auction, a group of Memphis businessmen came up with enough in checks and pledges to buy the motel. They planned to remodel it and open a museum.
Jacqueline Smith, the Lorraine's last resident, refused to leave. She was forcibly removed in 1988, and then maintained a permanent vigil of protest on the sidewalk across Mulberry Street. She had a couple old sofas and some bed sheet signs, and claimed that money used to turn the motel into a tourist attraction could have been better spent on converting it to public housing.
The National Civil Rights Museum opened in 1992. Room 306 is marked with a wreath. Inside, it's as it was on the evening of April 4, 1968. The 1959 Dodge and 1968 Cadillac parked under it are identical to the cars, in the same parking spaces, appearing in photographs taken moments after the shooting.
In 2002, the museum acquired the rooming house from where the fatal shot may have come, and opened exhibits on its top floor.

The William and Mary men’s basketball team led from start to finish and pushed its home-court winning streak to 14 games with a 77-58 victory over Elon on Wednesday night at Kaplan Arena. W&M shot 49 percent from the floor, knocked down ten 3-pointers and connected on 17-of-20 from the free throw line in outdistancing Elon. W&M remained in first place in the CAA at 10-3 in league and 16-8 overall, while Elon dropped to 11-15 on the year and 3-10 in CAA play.
Omar Prewitt led the Tribe, scoring 18 of his game-high 19 points in the first half to go with seven rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots. Sean Sheldon picked up his first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Marcus Thornton finished with 17 points and three assists.
The Tribe jumped out to an early advantage thanks in large part to the play of Prewitt and Sheldon. They combined for 24 of the Tribe’s opening 28 points as the Green and Gold opened up a double-digit advantage. W&M scored 11 of game’s first 13 points as four straight from Sheldon, including a pair of free throws, gave W&M the nine-point cushion.
Five straight from Elon closed the gap to 11-7 at the 13:51 mark, but W&M responded with and 8-2 run, including six from Prewitt. His 3-pointer from the left side extended the Tribe lead to 19-9. The Tribe lead remained in double digits, jumping to 30-15 on a Thornton setback jumper with four and a half minutes left in the half. The margin was 11 points following an Elijah Bryant jumper at the 3:20 mark, before the home team ripped off a 12-2 run to push its advantage over 20.
Connor Burchfield provided W&M with a huge lift off the bench, hitting back-to-back 3-pointers. A steal and fast break bucket from Thornton gave W&M a 17-point advantage and forced an Elon timeout. The Green and Gold run continued on a tough finish inside from Sheldon and a pair of Prewitt free throws, extending the lead to 42-21 with a minute left in the first half. W&M led by 19 at the intermission after shooting 51.7 percent (15-of-29), while limiting Elon to 36 percent (9-of-25) in the opening 20 minutes.
The visiting Phoenix scored eight of first 11 in the second half to draw within 14 points. Hamilton scored six straight points for Elon, including a steal and fast break lay-up to close the visitors to within 45-31 with 16:45 left.
After failing to hit a 3-pointer in the opening 20 minutes, Thornton knocked down back-to-back triples, including one of the step-back variety, to push the lead back to 18, 51-33, and the Phoenix never got closer than 15 points the rest of the way. His fast break lay-up off a Sheldon defensive rebound and look-ahead pass gave W&M a 60-40 lead with just under eight minutes remaining.
The cushion reached as many as 23 on a pair of occasions, including on Thornton’s third 3-pointer of the second half with 2:50 to play. From there, both teams emptied the bench and W&M picked up a 77-58 win, its 16th of the season. The 16 wins rank 10th in program history.
In a stark contrast from the earlier meeting this season, W&M limited Elon to just 3-of-22 (13.6 percent) from 3-point range, including only 1-of-14 from its top two scorers in Bryant and Tanner Samson. The Phoenix duo was 12-of-22 from long range and combined for 45 points in their home win over the Tribe in January. Elon finished the game shooting 40.3 percent (25-of-62) from the floor. Bryant led Elon with 15 points and 10 rebounds, but was just 5-of-15 from the field and 1-of-4 from 3-point range. Samson, who had 20 in the first meeting, finished with just two points and was 0-of-10 from 3-point range. Hamilton added 13 points, while Christian Hairston tallied 10 off the bench.
Playing without the services of guard Daniel Dixon, who was out due to injury, the Tribe received a number of contributions, especially from its freshman class. Rookie Oliver Tot garnered his first career start, finishing with three rebounds and two assists in a strong floor game. Greg Malinowski added six points, knocking down a pair of 3-pointers, to go along with two assists and fellow classmate Burchfield poured in six points on two 3-pointers. Tom Schalk added six points, four rebounds and a career-high three blocked shots off the bench.
W&M shot 49 percent (25-of-51) on the night, including a 10-of-24 (41.7 percent) effort from 3-point range. The Green and Gold continued its strong free throw shooting, connecting on 85 percent (17-of-20) from the charity stripe. The Tribe out rebounded Elon, 36-30, and dished out 14 assists on its 25 made field goals.
Red Weasel Media was sitting on the baseline to capture all of the high flying action.

A look around the city centre of Bury St Edmunds.
Bury St Edmunds (/ˈbɛri/), commonly referred to locally as Bury, is a historic market town and civil parish in Suffolk, England. Bury St Edmunds Abbey is near the town centre. Bury is the seat of the Diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich of the Church of England, with the episcopal see at St Edmundsbury Cathedral.
The town, originally called Beodericsworth, was built on a grid pattern by Abbot Baldwin around 1080. It is known for brewing and malting (Greene King brewery) and for a British Sugar processing factory, where Silver Spoon sugar is produced. The town is the cultural and retail centre for West Suffolk and tourism is a major part of the economy.
After leaving Abbey Gardens we headed down Crown Street towards the Greene King Brewery and Theatre Royal.
On Bridewell Lane.
Greene King Brewery
Greene King is the UK's largest pub retailer and brewer. It is based in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, England. The company owns pubs, restaurants and hotels. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index.
The brewery was founded by Benjamin Greene in Bury St. Edmunds in 1799.[3] In Wilson’s biographical analysis of the Greenes, he credits members of their family for being able to achieve distinction in the worlds of business and banking, literature and broadcasting in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.’
In 1836 Edward Greene took over the business and in 1887 it merged with Frederick William King's brewing business to create Greene King.
Greene King has grown via mergers and acquisitions, including Rayments Brewery (1961), the Magic Pub Company (1996), Hungry Horse (1996), Morland Brewery (1999), Old English Inns (2001), Morrells (2002), a large part of the Laurel Pub Company (2004), Ridley's Brewery (2005), Belhaven Brewery (2005), Hardys and Hansons (2006), the Loch Fyne fish restaurant chain (2007), Cloverleaf (2011), Realpubs (2011), the Capital Pub Company (2011) and the Spirit Pub Company (2015).
The Spirit acquisition, where Greene King bought Spirit for £773.6m, took the total number of Greene King sites to 3,116, brought 14 brands together and made Greene King the largest managed pub company in the UK. It was completed on 23 June 2015.
It was announced in November 2018 that Rooney Anand will be stepping down from his role as CEO after 14 years in the position.

EXTERIOR: 3 storeys; divided into 12 narrow bays by red brick
pilasters. Fluted bargeboards to the south gable. 4 louvred
window openings to the 1st storey and 4 semicircular-headed
small-paned cast-iron windows to the top storey; various
blocked openings. A former central entry with an arched
surround is blocked by flint and stone infilling and
surrounded by red bricks with blue headers which are older
than the remainder of the brickwork. This, and the flint and

As Of Friday May 29, 2020, Illinois entered Stage 3 in it's reopening plan which meant malls can reopen so I went to Woodfield to check it out. Not many stores were open yet due to it being early for those tenants. Sears was also the only anchor opened. The mall was not very busy but there were some people. There are destined entrances and not all of them are open. Other than the food court which was take out only, there wasn't much difference in shopping experience. Overall, I think Simon did a good job with reopening the mall and the lesser crowds in a large mall make it easy for people to social distance.

5.0.2 und SBB A 3/5 6.0.1 – 6.4.9 erschienen erst 1.9.0.7. Die Serienausführung der
SBB A 3/5 6.0.1 – 6.4.9 wurde dann ab 1.9.1.0 gebaut.

Zenvo or Zenvo Automotive is a Danish sports car company located near Viby SJ on the Danish island of Zealand. It is managed by Jesper Jensen, the founder and financier, and Troels Vollertsen. The name 'Zenvo' is derived from a combination of their names.
History
Zenvo Automotive was founded in 2004. The prototype was completed in December 2008 and is in the final phase of testing before production begins in 2009. The designation of the car is Zenvo ST1. Only 15 cars are to be built and will be sold to approved customers.
Characteristics
The Zenvo is a high performance sports car. While power is available through its supercharger and turbo, it will still be driveable for everyday use. Its 7-litre V8 engine will achieve 1,104 hp (823 kW) at 6,900 rpm and 1,430 N·m (1,050 lb·ft) of torque at 4,500 rpm. Indeed, according to The Motor Report, recent tests returned a 0-100 km/h time of 3.0 seconds, while 0-200 km/h took only 8.9 seconds.
Despite its power and large alloy wheels, the car is small, at just 15.3 ft (4.7 m) long, 6.7 ft (2.0 m) wide, and 3.9 ft (1.2 m) tall. It weighs just over 3,020 lb (1,370 kg) thanks to carbon fiber body panels.
Zenvo offers keyless entry, satellite navigation, power telescoping steering wheel, and leather electrically adjustable racing seats.
Limited production
According to Jesper Jensen and Troels Vollertsen, the two-man team behind the ST1, some 250 Bugattis are produced each year. Though they are among the world's most expensive cars, exclusive customers will only buy them if they are unique. That explains why they have decided to keep the Zenvo series down to just 15 cars.
Danish design
The Zenvo is entirely a result of Danish design. The carbon fibre body is made in Germany and many components such as gauges, gas tank, ABS brakes, anti-spinn, airbags and such come from US or German cars. The car's aggressive lines were designed by Christian Brandt and Jesper Hermann who own the car design consultancy hermann&brandt. Brandt, who was head of design on the project, has also worked for Alfa Romeo and Kleemann, an after-market tuning company for customising Mercedes-Benz cars located in Farum, Denmark.
Cost
It is estimated that the basic cost of the car, without registration or tax, will be around five million Danish kroner, which is approximately one million US dollars. The cost of putting the car on the road in Denmark would be around 16 million kroner as a result of registration expenses. But Zenvo are aiming at the export market alone.

Wilhelm Ritter von Gutmann
William Isaac Wolf Ritter von Gutmann (born August 18, 1826 in Leipnik, Moravia, † 17 May 1895 in Vienna) was an Austrian entrepreneur. He founded and led the largest coal company in Austria-Hungary, was ennobled in 1878 and was 1891-92 President of the Jewish Community Vienna (ICG).
Life
Born into a poor family, Wilhelm Gutmann was initially trained as a teacher and was determined to study theology. However, the early death of his father forced him to provide for his mother and siblings. Therefore Wilhelm Gutmann rose at the beginning of the 1850s in the emerging coal business. In 1853 he founded together with his younger brother David (1834-1912) through the purchase of coal mines in the Ostrava area the company Gebrüder Gutmann. In the following years, this company has achieved very quickly a central position in the coal supply of Austria-Hungary. Because of their great economic success, the brothers William and David Gutmann were soon referred to as the "Coal Gutmann" or as the "Krupp" of the Danube monarchy.

Ida von Gutmann Wodianer (about 1899)
With Anselm Salomon von Rothschild, the Gutmann brothers joined in 1865 to expand the near Ostrava located Vítkovice works together. Very early recognizing the value of human capital, were especially their social services for the workers working there through the creation of housing, kindergartens, educational institutions and other social organizations, as well as a kind of accident and pension insurance important.
Part of the successful company policy was the collaboration with other major companies, such as Miller Aichholz and Kuffner or Schoeller. In addition to iron and steel production, coal mining and trading, the company Gebrüder Gutmann included soon factories for sugar and alcohol, jute, soda, cellulose and fire-brick production, a wagon factory in Stauding (Moravian-Silesian region) and oil factory in Floridsdorf (Vienna).
In addition, Wilhelm von Gutmann owned on Beethovenplatz nr. 3 in Vienna's first district the Palais Gutmann, which he had 1869-71 by the architect Carl Tietz in the style of the neo-Renaissance erected. After 1882 in Baden (Lower Austria) by Alexander Wielemans of Monteforte and Hugo Zimmermann (1849-1924) in the Helen Street (Helenenstraße) 72 a summer villa of the the German Renaissance style of the Middle Ages had let build (building owner: Ida von Gutmann), acquired from William Gutmann in 1884 , the 10,000 acre "dominion Jaidhof" (Gfoehl, Lower Austria). To this property also belonged the Droß Castle and the Jaidhof Castle. The latter he made in the following time Max von Ferstel extensive remodel.
Also as a philanthropist William Gutmann was very active. Such he was with his brother co-founder of the Jewish Theological educational institution and sponsor of the Beth ha-Midrash and the Jewish girls in the orphanage 19th district of Vienna (Döbling). He also provided support to other humanitarian and social projects, such as the establishment of a children's department at the Polyclinic in Vienna, a retirement home in Krems, foundations etc. in Leipnik. For their merits, the Gutmann brothers were raised in 1878 to the hereditary knighthood (Knight of the Order of the Iron Crown III . Kl).
William of Gutman was also a member of the Lower Austrian Diet and 1878-1884 Member of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kammerrat). He was also the founder of the Industrial Club (forerunner of today's Industrial Association), the Association of the mining, iron and industrial machinery in Vienna, Austria and the Philanthropic Society. Published in 1891 by Wilhelm Gutmann his memoirs under the title From My Life.
Wilhelm Ritter von Gutmann was buried on 19 May 1895 on the old Jewish section of Vienna's Central Cemetery (Group 5B ) in a neo-Gothic mausoleum, which was designed in 1892 /93 by architect Max Fleischer and constructed by Eduard Hauser. At the funeral spoke among other rabbi Adolf Schwarz, President of the 15 October 1893 opened Israelite theological schools (Rabbinical Seminary) in Vienna (Tempelgasse 3), which was founded on the initiative of Wilhelm and David von Gutmann.
Family
Gutmann William married in first marriage Leonore Latzko (1827-1867), from which emerged the children Berthold (1856-1932), Max von Gutmann (1857-1930) and Rosa (1862-1930 ). After the early death of his first wife, he married Ida Wodianer (1847-1924), daughter of the printer, publisher, and landowner Philip (Fülöp) Wodianer (1820-1899). With her Wilhelm von Gutmann had four more children: Marianne (1871 - ?), Moritz or Moriz (1872-1934), Elizabeth called Elsa (1875-1947) and Rudolf (1880-1966).
Elsa married the daughter of the 1929 ruling Prince Franz I of Liechtenstein (1853-1938) and thus she became Duchess Elsa of Liechtenstein. The older sister Marianne was married to the English Zionist Sir Francis Abraham Montefiore (1860-1935).
The Common Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis) also known as Eurasian Kingfisher, or River Kingfisher, is a small kingfisher with seven subspecies recognized within its wide distribution across Eurasia and North Africa. It is resident in much of its range, but migrates from areas where rivers freeze in winter.
This sparrow-sized bird has the typical short-tailed, large-headed kingfisher profile; it has blue upperparts, orange underparts and a long bill. It feeds mainly on fish, caught by diving, and has special visual adaptions to enable it to see prey under water. The glossy white eggs are laid in a nest at the end of a burrow in a riverbank.
This species has the typical short-tailed, dumpy-bodied large-headed and long-billed kingfisher shape. The adult male of the western European subspecies, A. a. ispida has green-blue upperparts with pale azure-blue back and rump, a rufous patch by the bill base, and a rufous ear-patch. It has a green-blue neck stripe, white neck blaze and throat, rufous underparts, and a black bill with some red at the base. The legs and feet are bright red. It is about 16 centimetres (6.3 in) long with a wingspan of 25 cm (9.8 in), and weighs 34–46 grams (1.2–1.6 oz).
The female is identical in appearance to the male except that her lower mandible is orange-red with a black tip. The juvenile is similar to the adult, but with duller and greener upperparts and paler underparts. Its bill is black, and the legs are also initially black.
The flight of the Kingfisher is fast, direct and usually low over water. The short rounded wings whirr rapidly, and a bird flying away shows an electric-blue "flash" down its back.
In North Africa, Europe and Asia north of the Himalayas this is the only small blue kingfisher. In south and southeast Asia it can be confused with six other small blue-and-rufous kingfishers, but the rufous ear patches distinguish it from all but juvenile Blue-eared Kingfisher; details of the head pattern may be necessary to differentiate the two species where both occur.
The Common Kingfisher has no song. The flight call is a short sharp whistle, chee, repeated two or three times. Anxious birds emit a harsh, shrit-it-it and nestlings call for food with a churring noise.
In Great Britain it is known as the most colourful bird.
A. c. venustissimus Eibl-Eibesfeldt, 1956 – Española Island
Punta Suárez
On his visit to the islands, Charles Darwin was revolted by the animals' appearance, writing:
The black Lava rocks on the beach are frequented by large (2-3 ft), disgusting clumsy Lizards. They are as black as the porous rocks over which they crawl & seek their prey from the Sea. I call them 'imps of darkness'. They assuredly well become the land they inhabit.[3]
In fact, Amblyrhynchus cristatus is not always black; the young have a lighter coloured dorsal stripe, and some adult specimens are grey. The reason for the sombre tones is that the species must rapidly absorb heat to minimize the period of lethargy after emerging from the water. They feed almost exclusively on marine algae, expelling the excess salt from nasal glands while basking in the sun, and the coating of salt can make their faces appear white. In adult males, coloration varies with the season. Breeding-season adult males on the southern islands (Española, Floreana and nearby islets) are the most colorful and will acquire red and teal-green colors, while on Santa Cruz they are brick red and black, and on Fernandina they are brick red and dull greenish.
Another difference between the iguanas is size, which is different depending on the island the individual iguana inhabits. The iguanas living on the islands of Fernandina and Isabela (named for the famous rulers of Spain) are the largest found anywhere in the Galápagos. On the other end of the spectrum, the smallest iguanas are found on the island on Genovesa.
Adult males are up to 1.7 metres (5.6 ft) long, females 0.6–1 metre (2.0–3.3 ft), males weigh up to 1.5 kilograms (3.3 lb).
On land, the marine iguana is rather a clumsy animal, but in the water it is a graceful swimmer. This is due to the traits it has that allow it to swim and make it different from other species of iguana; its laterally flattened tail and spiky dorsal fins allow it to swim further and faster, while its long, sharp claws allow it to hold onto rocks and other materials around it when there are strong currents so that it doesn't drown or get lost/too far away from land.
Its diet consists of seaweed and algae. To make it easier for it to get these, the marine iguana has a flat snout so that it can get closer to rocks that algae is growing on, as well as sharp teeth so that it can scrape off more of the algae. It has a special gland in its snout that filters its blood for excess salt that it may ingest while eating. It sneezes out the excess salt, which often leaves a salty crust around its nostrils, one of the aspects that made it unattractive to Charles Darwin.

Galápagos sea lion (Zalophus wollebaeki), Galapagos.
The Galápagos sea lion (Zalophus wollebaeki), a species of sea lion, exclusively breeds on the Galápagos Islands and – in smaller numbers – on Isla de la Plata (to Ecuador). Being fairly social, and one of the most numerous species in the Galápagos archipelago, they are often spotted sun-bathing on sandy shores or rock groups or gliding gracefully through the surf. Their loud bark, playful nature, and graceful agility in water make them the "welcoming party" of the islands.
Slightly smaller than their Californian relatives, Galápagos sea lions range from 150to 250 cm in length and weigh between 50 and 400 kg, with the males averaging larger than females. Adult males also tend to have a thicker, more robust neck, chest, and shoulders in comparison to their slender abdomen. Females are somewhat opposite males, with a longer, more slender neck and thick torso. Once sexually mature, a male’s sagittal crest enlarges, forming a small, characteristic bump-like projection on their forehead. Galápagos sea lions, compared to California sea lions, have a slightly smaller sagittal crest and a shorter muzzle. Adult females and juveniles lack this physical characteristic altogether with a nearly flat head and little or no forehead.
Both male and female sea lions have a pointy, whiskered nose and somewhat long, narrow muzzle. The young pups are almost dog-like in profile. Another characteristic that defines the sea lion are their external ear-like pinnae flaps which distinguish them from their close relative with which they are often confused, the seal. The foreflippers have a short fur extending from the wrist to the middle of the dorsal fin surface, but other than that, the flippers are covered in black, leathery skin. Curving posteriorly, the first digit of the flipper is the largest, giving it a swept-back look. At the end of each digit is a claw, usually reduced to a vestigial nodule that rarely emerges above the skin. Although somewhat clumsy on land with their flippers, sea lions are amazingly agile in water. With their streamlined bodies and flipper-like feet, they easily propel themselves through crashing surf and dangerously sharp coastal rocks. They also have the ability to control their flippers independently and thus change directions with ease, and they have more control over their body on land.
When wet, sea lions are a shade of dark brown, but once dry, their color varies greatly. The females tend to be a lighter shade than the males and the pups a chestnut brown. Born with a longer, brownish-black lanugo, a pup's coat gradually fades to brown within the first five months of life. At this time, they undergo their first molt, resulting in their adult coat
Miami of Ohio Red Hawks players greet their teammate at home plate after she smacked a home run against Kent State. It was a scene that was repeated again and again and again and again, as the Red Hawks thumped the Golden Flashes, 16-3, in a game called after five innings.
After removing the molds (leaving Mold 3 in place to keep the hull in shape) I lifted the hull off of the strongback. I attached big c-clamps to the joists to serve as blocks and rotated the hull on the bow eye. The hull was very easy to lift and turn using this method, even though I was working solo.

Battleship IOWA (BB-61) at Richmond, California
My first day aboard the USS Iowa since the move out of the mothball fleet in Suisun Bay, to Terminal 3, in sight of San Francisco. Shot from the bow, looking North into Richmond (California); weather is cool and sunny after a rainy day. Most of the following shots won't have a lot of caption/info; too many photos to keep up with!
