After been done at Tommy Hall Barn, a second bite of 60066 on the Newbiggin to Tees Dock empty gypsum as it gets away from Hellifield.
This is the 2nd Northern saw-whet owl I've ever seen.
Here's a rare case where someone reported a Northern saw-whet owl in E-Bird without the "H.O." descriptor (Heard Only). In fact, there were multiple reports, some with good descriptions where to find it. So, being within 100 miles of the location, I drove out to find it...
Bridgeport State Park (WA):
It was about 10-feet up, tucked deep into a smallish pine tree right along a road next to the campground (as reported by helpful E-Bird contributors).
Bridgeport State Park doesn't draw big crowds on cold, Winter weekdays. I was the only person in the park (other than a ranger driving around). This meant I could drag the tripod out and take my time quietly setting up without getting in anyone else's way. I didn't want to bother the owl for too long, so I took a few shots from a few different angles, and left it alone pretty quickly.
Though, like the last saw-whet owl I saw, it didn't seem scared or annoyed. Its eyes opened occasionally to see what I was doing, then closed them again.
Final note: These owls are hilariously small. So small that it was hard to see it -- even after I knew where it was.
Thought I'd upload some pics taken at the refuge last week. These cute Tree Swallows were in a tree cavity -wooded area- with their parents nearby....very easy to miss. Looks like they're ready to fledge.
[3] more images below. Have a great Monday! "Hate to "post & go" ...but am trying to decide whether to clean house or go back to the refuge this morning now that Jasmine's hike is over.
These are another Iris variety that flower 1 month after the last lot in early morning light and budding rose leaf bokeh.
Wishing you all a HAPPY and a BLESSED Friday and Weekend Ahead!
Thank you so much for stopping by and for the kind comments and favs. They are very much appreciated!
Father Brown country.
The Church of England parish church of St Peter and St Paul, Brockley, Gloucestershire, 2nd February 2023.
The church doubles as St Mary's Roman Catholic church in the BBC Father Brown television series and has also featured in an episode of the BBC series Dalziel and Pascoe.
The church was built in about 1180 with a major upgrade around 1310. At the end of the 14th century the north aisle was added, and the south porch was added in 1630. The bell tower was built in 1725, probably replacing an earlier one. The church was restored, and the north porch added in 1871. It is a Grade II listed building.

This wasn't my first choice of location but having been shafted by the only small cloud in the sky at Aslockton I managed to beat it to Muston.
i've always loved this school picture, because I actually had a broken arm -- I wanted my picture taken with the sling around my neck, but the photographer insisted not!
I have stuck in many people's memory from that year in school, because I actually broke BOTH arms, sequentially (not at the same time) -- first one I fell down on the school playground at a parent-teacher conference night -- skinned my knee & didn't even notice my arm, til the next morning when mom decided I was holding my arm strangely and asked if I could rotate my wrist -- I looked blankly at her and said, "no, why?" so I'd fractured my right wrist -- spent six weeks in a sling, and then the day after I got it off, I fell down rollerskating and broke my left arm.
yes, i am clumsy.
my grandmother crocheted that dress for me -- my sister had one with a sort of raspberry color instead of the green.
taken at Van Auken Elementary School, in palo alto, 1973 -- i was probably still six, soon to turn seven...
A late posting from the "can you rock" jam in Montreal. All star line-up, top notch wall, great hospitality (Thanks Scien & Klor!) , proper scaffolding, flat tires, terrible fast food, no rain, and another year of Canada not figuring out how to put ice cubes into coffee. Kem on my left on the upper level. Thanks to all who worked hard to make the weekend possible! Some action shots of Bacon and myself at work to follow, and hopefully a connector with Kem.

My icon ideas comeback to me! :))
The River Affric towards the bottom end of the Glen. An absolutely stunning natural landscape and one of the absolute gems of the Highlands.
It is still kinda amazing to me that this is just a 30 minute drive from the house!
Today was a blast. First, we went hiking then on the way back, we saw this train going across. It was going very slow and I knew where it was going to go across next, so we went down the road and waited for it to come by. The engineers waved out the windows at us. My first round of photos were okay, but I wanted better, so we drove down another mile or so and waited for it again. I got better pictures this time and it was nice to see the engineers' smiling faces.
It was fun to be able to stop and enjoy it going by, rather than wishing it would hurry because we are always in a hurry and don't have time to be held up.
