On our final stop on the best weekend ever, we stopped by the little town that's smack dab in the center of the Mojave Desert, the partial ghost town known as Kelso.
Kelso's train depot has been renovated and is open today as a information center about the Mojave Desert. This center was done very well, everything was re-done and beautiful inside, but it was what was outside that really caught my eye.
Not even more then 10 buildings away, all the buildings from the past have been washed away with time. This used to be a long line of houses, now only one house out of the set remains. This shot was taken from the back yard of that house, which we explored in great depth.
This was the first ghost town we'd ever been to, but now there's absolutely no way it can be the last. There are still much much more pictures from here and from my trip, scarily enough for all the pictures we take on a session by session basis we realized in the last 2 months we took more shots then we'd taken in the previous 2 years! So yeah, I've got a lot of editing to do.
This is posted straight from the camera, set all the way back on vintage mode.
I climbed up the 768 stairs up to the top. There I discovered this grandiose architecture.

Don't you just want to find out how deep the well runs and how the water keeps draining out into the ocean? I do, too. It didn't matter how long I stood here leaning on my tripod, the rise and fall of the water as the tide comes up is mesmerizing. Thor's Well, Cape Perpetua, Oregon, November 2012.

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in an attack. He led four machine guns through a heavy barrage and frequently brought them into action in support of the advancing infantry. When one of his guns was put out of action he promptly substituted a captured enemy gun, and with this he engaged and silenced an enemy machine gun which was holding up the advance. He set his men a splendid example of courage and confidence throughout.'

Mr. Robert Flanagan, -who arrived in New Zealand 40 years ago, and for the past 32 years has been a prominent settler at, Drury, Auckland, is dead. His eldest son, Lieut. Flanagan, is now serving in France, while his second son enlisted only a few days before his father's death.[1]

While working at a chaff cutter at Drury on Wednesday morning Mr. Robert Flanagan put a sheaf of oats up to protect himself from the dust. The oheaf was drawn into the machine, and the knives were broken, a flying piece striking Mr. Flanagan in the eye, injuring it so badly that it had to be removed[3]

As an aside, Fanny FLANAGAN appealed for her son Robert to be retained in NZ to help her rather than go to war:
MEN ON THE LAND. Mrs. F. C. Flanagan. Drury, appealed for the retention of her son. Robert Flanagan, who was the only help to work a farm of 150 acres, running 46 cows. Her son had volunteered, but had been kept back owing to the death in November of her husband. The farm was mortgaged. She had a daughter at home and two children at school. One son was in France. The latter had previously worked on the property, which could not run a manager. The appeal was adjourned sine die.[2]

I was under this tent teaching my daughter how to make a cracker bread with cheese. It's simple:- two slices of white bread, some crackers and a slice of cheese. haha.

Jesus Christ, our Messiah, gave His life on the cross on this very day 2012 years ago. He did this to save us from SIN. The least that we can do during this Easter is go to Church and pray to our Heavenly Father.

Another early morning shot of a Ferrari in the Goodwood Paddock, this time of 246 Dino owned and raced by Tony Smith (manager of Genesis, Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks, and co-manager of Pink Floyd).
This particular car (chassis 0007) was owned by Neil Corner who bought the car back in 1978 but suffered a horrendous crash at Goodwood in 2000 when he was thrown from the car after a collision on the start/finish straight. There is a photo and video clip of the accident (link here) for those curious to witness what can only be described as an accurate portrayal of a period crash - one that luckily Neil managed to bounce back from (after a two week stay in hospital). The car was rebuily and sold on to Tony Smith.
Then car itself is one of only two original 1960 Ferrari 246 Dino's to exist (the cars from 1957 to 1959 are believed to no longer survive). Chassis 0007 was driven by Phil Hill in the 1960 Italian GP, winning the race. The car was subsequently renumbered as chassis 'F 0788' and reworked in New Zealand into a 'GTO' before being retrieved by Neil Corner in 1978 and then restored by Crosthwaite & Gardiner with its original body panels.

This photo has more sabdued colours in Lightroom/Mozilla and they are more red and garsish on Explorer.. Have notices the difference before but never so obvious with change of tone as well.. A calibrated screen and all. Really puzzled! ;-)

For my last three 365 projects, I've done an alphabet project every February and for each one I've done Quidditch for the letter Q. It's really just the best excuse to do a Harry Potter themed photo. This year however, I've also used it as a chance to write tutorial on levitation for my blog!

Tokyo Skytree Tōkyō Sukaitsurī is a broadcasting, restaurant, and observation tower in Sumida, Tokyo, Japan. It became the tallest structure in Japan in 2010 and reached its full height of 634.0 metres in March 2011, making it the tallest tower in the world, displacing the Canton Tower, and the second tallest structure in the world after Burj Khalifa.
The tower is the primary television and radio broadcast site for the Kantō region; the older Tokyo Tower no longer gives complete digital terrestrial television broadcasting coverage because it is surrounded by high-rise buildings. Skytree was completed on 29 February 2012, with the tower opening to the public on 22 May 2012.
The tower is the centrepiece of a large commercial development funded by Tobu Railway and a group of six terrestrial broadcasters headed by NHK. Trains stop at the adjacent Tokyo Skytree Station and nearby Oshiage Station, and the complex is only 7 km north-east of Tokyo Station.

It was a real pleasure being able to get out and shoot sunset with Darren White and Rich Bitonti. We originally went up to the blooming orchards overlooking Mt. Hood, and although we got a few neat shots, the light was looking more promising down on the Columbia River. We got there with seconds to spare before the sky blew up into these gorgeous colors. The Hood River Valley is in full bloom.

Having shot the inside of Helmstetter's Curve on the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad the two previous mornings of the charter and considering that there isn't much to shoot inside the curve on a cloudy morning, I decided to climb the hill above the farm and try the traditional afternoon shot in the morning.
