So after the partial success of round 2, I took all the kit down and instead got set up so I could quickly get into shooting position when the feeder was being used. Without too much of a wait the hummer returned and I was able to get a few shots off before she flew away. On leaving the feeder she stopped off on the washing line and gave me an evil backwards look before flying away… :)
Round 3 goes to the photographer I think – overall score is a tie so far.
I typically upload in small sets - don't just look at the latest one in my photostream as you might be missing something you'll like more.... and your comments are ALWAYS welcome :)

I might use a different version of this picture, since I'm not sure how well I can use Photoshop to eliminate the shininess and glare of this photo. Nevertheless, this is another autumn shot! A warm machiatto really hits the spot!

I've set a deadline for finishing up functionality on my phone app: October 2. I made some progress with the static radar tonight, though it's far from where I want it to be. But progress is still being made. It doesn't necessarily need to be general-purpose done in two weeks, but it needs to be show to people that it's running well on my phone done. It's definitely doable.

Part 1 of 2 - I don't typically upload in parts anymore. This time is because on Tuesday the 6th, my area was hit by nasty storms and tornadoes and I don't have internet, so uploading more than 40 pictures on a hotspot is next to impossible. So within a week or two, the second batch will be published with all the pictures from Waldameer!

New Brighton 230623 #2
I can never come to New Brighton without taking at least one photograph of Perch Rock lighthouse. I was here to visit Neil Everett’s exhibition, last Friday, of some of his black and white photographs of the area – printed, framed and mounted, but I’d arrived early. I parked the car near Fort Perch Rock and hurried down to the beach. It was low tide and raining – very different conditions from my usual visits. I kept my X-T5 camera as dry as I could beneath my waterproof jacket and wandered around – hoping in vain for some useful reflections. I tried different angles, different foregrounds and, when it came to processing the shots later, I couldn’t, after seeing Neil’s photographs, leave them as colour images. So, here they are, probably not too much different than shots I’ve posted before, and I’ve included one featuring the container port cranes, one of the groynes and one looking across to the Liverpool skyline.

Entry #2
I have this Dictionary.com app that busts in around noon everyday to let me know what the "word of the day" is. Today, it was "wunderkind." I pictured some 9 year-old kid as CEO and wondered what his briefcase would look like.
Film from last Trip 2
I shot several rolls of both B/W and CN film. These are from Orwo NC500 color film. Under the cold, dull light it gives very „subtle“ negatives, I boosted them more than usual because of that. Basically I didn't really have a idea how to process, so just played and tried some things. More to come!
This is not my second attempt, but I will still name it Water Color Lesson 2.
I am getting better, but still have a long, long way to go.

I made that card last year a letterpress class. It's my motto and I'm tickled pink to include it in my book!! It was kind of a revelation last year year when I figured it out.

*When I finish a project and can start a new one.
* When my house is clean and organized.
* When my sweetheart is home, especially over the weekend.

* When a book I've requested at the library finally comes in.

* When I try something new and fins out I love it.
* When it's a crafternoon.
* When I wash my car and it feels all squeaky clean.
* When I win at cards.
*When I am making something.
* When I get a card in the mail from someone special.
* When I feel like their friend and not just a big sister, daughter, girlfriend.
* When I finish watching a great movie.
* When I find a great pen in my purse.
1. I chose this image for mirror effect because I thought it would create a cool pattern in the sky if I did it in quad.
2. I think the most successful aspect of the photo is the shape the clouds created in the middle, it looks like a person or an angel
For the afternoon of Day 2, I had booked a tour with O'Brien's (www.obriensboattours.com) out of Bay Bulls.
Puffins, baby! PUFFINS!
I've been wanting another crack at these guys for years. My telescopic still wasn't quite good enough. I need a bigger lens.

This satisfies requirement 2. I decided to do a long exposure to capture the yo-yo's movement (yes I have one that lights up). I used f8 because the yo-yo is actually really bright and using f3.5 or something like that would overexpose it. ISO was set to 100 to keep the photo clean. In Lightroom, I did color correction and sharpened the photo so how the LED spins look more obvious.

Note to self.... never do a firmware update at 12:00 am. In my attempt to update my camera to firmware 1.2, I have now render my camera dead. The idiotic Olympus firmware update process can so easily break your camera. I thought the firmware was complete and press the Next button but apparently it is still updating. So after pressing Next it says it can't detect my camera. So I thought my camera went to sleep, so I turn it off and turn it back on. BAD MOVE! I think next time I need to stare at the camera and see when the OK screen come up. I mean what if you went away and come back and the screen is still black... you would assume that maybe it is done and it just went to sleep given the Next button on the software. Now I'll have to probably send it in to Ontario to get it fix. Panasonic firmware update process is so much better. Download and put on sd card, go to camera and go update firmware. While it is updating, you see a freakin progress bar or some text telling you when it is done!
I like her outfit maybe not as much as Meygan but her outfit is cute, not keen on the skirt, the orange tail is great, her hair is a bit frizzed but other than that she's ok, I might get the other 2 I am not sure I like Jade and Cloe but I am not entirely sure if I am feeling them as much.

As you may see, this picture is changed a bit from the original picture.
First I used Mirror and Liquify to change the composition (to simulate mirroring on water).
Then I divided the picture in 2 layers
I used gaussian blur for layer 1.
The layer 2 I converted to LAB-format to sharpen and get rid of noise (Can be done in PS or Gimp - not PSE)
For the 2 color-channels I added Gaussian Blur. I did d some unsharp mask on the light-channel. I then converted from LAB-format back to RGB..
To combine layer 1 and 2 I used a clipping mask and radial gradient (to get smooth transitions).
On my way north, from Patagonia to Phoenix, I had just time for one stop. I chose Madera Canyon for a few reasons:
1) It had the right geographical location.
2) I knew I could get photos of the Mexican Jay there, and I had not one acceptable from the days of yore.
3) I glimpsed the Arizona (former Strickland's) Woodpecker there, once upon a time in the distant era of 1998. So short a glimpse that I of course didn't even get a bad shot of it, we barely managed to ID it.
So, to Madera Canyon I went and had some very nice hours at the feeders of Santa Rita Lodge. Ticked off my items, starting with the Jay and ending with the Woodpecker! Time spent very well :-)
