This all started when I looked the Lego antennae and thought, man that could actually be pretty perfect as a continuous laser! This also begs a broader question - is Dune Lego space? Is it Castle? Is it fantasy?
There’s also some jumping around the Dune movies here- the laser door cutting happened in a hallway, this is generally supposed to be the ecological center but also not quite, you’ll probably notice our buddy Stilgar, as well as the commander of the Sardaukar from part 2. I also had to take a stab at the shield effect (pun intended).
OK, so was tagged by NatureLuver09 and as I understand it I'm suppose to give you ten things about me that you couldn't possibly know. Then I tag ten of you. I've been dragging my feet, but here goes:
1. On February 18 I will celebrate 26 years of marrage to my best friend Kate.
2. I love peanut butter and chocolate ice cream.
3. I am a devout Christian and getting better at it little be little.
4. My fifteen minutes of fame came when in High School I played drums in a band that opened for Chuck Berry.
5. Now I play guitar and have five of them. I'm not that good, but it's still fun.
6. I'm trying to teach myself mandolin. If I spent as much time practicing that as I do on Flickr I might get good at it.
7. I love a lot of different kinds of music, but I'm really drawn to celtic and rootsy accoustic stuff
8. I don't really care much for sports (unless my kids or grandkids are involved).
9. I don't know what I want to be when I grow up.
10. I'm kind of a geek. I don't sit down at my desk without at least two computers going - one Windows and one Mac, and since the last malware attack on my wife's laptop I've switched both of our laptops over to Ubuntu Linux. You can't be a real geek unless you play with linux. That's boring I suppose but I couldn't think of a tenth one. Oh, how about this:
10b. I'm a romantic and love movies like "Fly Away Home".
Hope I did this right.
1. I'm crazy in love with Jesus again.
2. I'm leaving in about 8 days for Galveston, year 2.
3. I'm homeschooling. I'm in love with it.
4. God is making HUGE things happen in my life. I cut off relationships with people I don't need to be involved with. I added more relationships with people who encourage me.
5. I've been living off of TONS of coffee.
6. I need to shoot more. And I will, every Saturday.
7. I'm knitting a scarf. It's exciting to me.
8. I have a homeschool blog. :) Because I'm a cool homeschool kid.

1. I am thankful for walking around Wascana Park on Sunday. It was really lovely and I like how well used the park is by people from all over the city and visitors.
2. I am thankful for beginning #Trust30 30 day writing challenge because some very interesting thoughts have bubbled to the surface. I read about it at the Domino Project. Oops, now that I think of it, I read about the project from the middle finger project.
3. I am thankful for Derek Sivers’s video why you need to fail (14:54) because it helped me to put some news I received on Monday into perspective.
4. I am thankful for reading an article (somewhere) about how when you work your muscles just passed a certain point that they tear a little bit and once they repair themselves they become larger and stronger .. the article suggested that this was THE way to build muscle! Danielle LaPorte has a video where she talks about how things don’t have to be so hard, in fact you can choose for them to be easy! This got me thinking! You can laugh so much and so boisterously that you build muscle. You can also play something you really enjoy and build muscle! We don’t have to tear our muscles and wait for them to heal to build muscle! What other ways could this idea be applied!? :) I am excited about the possibilities! It makes me think of Bill Strickland making change with a slide show TED talk (35:28) for some reason too. :)
5. I am thankful I was able to finish and begin re-reading Start with Why and The Body Sacred. Thanks to text to speech software programmers I have been able to read while doing house work and food preparation! I also have listened to the first disk of Spencer Johnson’s Peaks and Valleys. I recommend Start with Why and Peaks and Valleys for nearly everyone because it is useful life focusing and encouraging information in a story telling format. The Body Sacred by Dianne Sylvan is only for specific women. If you feel called to search it you can decide for yourself, keeping in mind that if you are fundamentalist (judge before learning about something) or are on a diet the book is not for you. Well I guess if you enjoy choosing to be easily offended, then you will have a hey day with this book! :)
6. I am very thankful for the Prompt questions because they are pushing me to think and do differently in subtle but life changing and unexpected ways. Today’s question asked participants to write about what we are afraid to write about. At first I assumed nothing but that is pretty darn far from the truth once I thought about it. I even realised that there are some things that feel big and scary to write about in my private journal! Holy moly! The one that really sticks out is how I feel about being the recipient of a cadaveric organ transplant. By writing about it I decided that I do take very good care of my kidney and that The Kid and I could really stand to get out and experience more of the world! I wonder if the person had some things that s/he really wanted to do while still alive? Maybe The Kid and I could make those dreams come true? I also think about spirit versus body. (and no, I am not ready to discuss that with anyone yet.)
Something I find interesting about the questions in the prompts is how they are worded and me being someone with a chronic disease that sometimes I feel rather irritated with them! The, “you have X time to live” and think of yourself in five years time questions have been very effective at shoving me in directions I have a great deal of resistance going! I am excited to report that as of this past year I can now imagine the possibility of myself being alive in five years time! :)
7. I am thankful for the spaces between the notes that make the music that is life.
8. I am thankful I saw Dallas today and asked her, “will you do me a favour?” “Tell me what is fabulous in your life today?” because I got to learn more about her. It also had a side effect of reminding me of more wonderful in my life. We agree that being on this side of the ground and being healthy is pretty darn fabulous! :)
9. I am thankful for S because he is a really great catalyst for my learning about life, how things might work and how things could work whether I converse with him directly or not.
10. I am thankful that I have magic that helps my niece to smile when she feels sad. :-)

I meant to start on Day 1, but brought the wrong camera with me, an the SD card didn't work.

35mm is not wide enough for my purposes.
This month I'm doing the Pentax SMC F 35-105 1:4-5.6mm with inbuilt macro.
I thought I hadn't used this before, but in actual fact I *had* done a Singles In for this lens back in February 2016 (!)
Considering the number of lenses I own, it's ridiculous for me to go back to one I've tried before. But I've started now, so no point swapping over....
My memory of this lens is very poor, so it will be a nice refresher.
If nothing else, the focusing distance is longer than I would like. Reminding me yet again that I really do love macro work.
I missed the wide angles last month, but even at 35mm, I'm discovering that this is still not wide enough for my liking.

A better water bottle. Better for Everyone.
Designing with more renewable materials over fossil fuels is how we are lowering the carbon footprint of our packaging while protecting the water inside. Making sure our materials are responsibly sourced is how we protect the things outside too.
The JUST water bottle relies on the use of paper. We like paper because it is derived from trees which are renewable or grow back naturally. Using renewable materials contributes to lowered carbon emissions.
What do all these materials do?
Using paper as the main material is how the JUST water bottle reduces its environmental footprint while still maintaining its structure. An aluminum foil barrier does an excellent job protecting the water from light, oxygen and other potential contamination. Both the aluminum and paper are shielded by a layer of BPA-free plastic lamination to protect the integrity of the bottle.
Certified Paper
The paper used in the JUST water package is 100% traceable and certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. Traceability back to the point of origin for paper sources is important for several reasons. One of the most important is so that the forests will be around for future generations to enjoy and for wood to continue to provide so much benefit for the world around us.
Plant-based plastic
The plastic in the shoulder and cap of the JUST water bottle is made from sugarcane, not from fossil fuels like petroleum. This significantly reduces our carbon emissions by utilizing a resource that grows back each year.
A Roll of Bottles is Efficiently Better
JUST makes a better water bottle from flat rolls that ultimately get folded into shape when they are filled. This is a highly efficient way to ship millions of bottles in a very tight space requiring fewer trucks and in turn, less energy.

I shot several rolls of both B/W and CN film. These are from Orwo NC500 color film. Under the cold, dull light it gives very „subtle“ negatives, I boosted them more than usual because of that. Basically I didn't really have a idea how to process, so just played and tried some things. More to come!

I had a couple of tiny edits to take care of on the fall ad this morning, but other that it was a pretty chill day. I assisted Ahna on an interview shoot at GAB this afternoon that went without a hitch. It was in this conference room I didn’t know existed with long, textured glass. We blasted light through that thing to make a cool, streaky background vibe.
After the shoot, we needed coffee but the GAB coffee shop is closed for the summer. We opted for the Union Starbucks as a backup. Since I had my Segway with me (of course), I challenged Ahna to a race. She’d take the cart and I’d race her on the Segway. Even when you factor in my brief moment of disorientation navigating campus, the Segway totally destroyed. It’s official, folks: We all need Segways now.
As we entered the building we noticed a gigantic vertical TV screen outside. It looks like they’re gonna have some sweet exterior signage soon or something, but both of us immediately had the same thought: This looks a heck of a lot like the suggested display setup for the Denton square. You know, the one that they want to put next to the Confederate soldier statue to say, “HEY BUT YEAH WE AREN’T RACIST NOW SO THIS IS OK.”
Little known facts 2: I experience intermittent insomnia.
My whole family sleeps bout as well as if they were in a prison camp, so the fact that I used to sleep like I was drugged as a kid actually made me the envied black sheep (I was the black sheep in many ways, but only envied for this one way). But, ever since some scary and upsetting things happened in college, I've had some bouts of not-sleeping. Other people get headaches or stomach upset when they are stressed; I lose sleep. Literally. It comes and goes, and honestly, even on an insomnia night, I still sleep better than my family so I don't complain too much, just try to chill, read, catch up on TV shows, and reduce caffeine.
At the same time that my insomnia was kicked off in college, a fear of the dark was also. So, when I'm not sleeping well, I tend to sleep with the lights on too. Embarrassing, but true . . . and not something a lot of people know about.
My five best friends, people who have shared beds with me and . . . that's it.
