Uluru also known as Ayers Rock and officially gazetted as Uluru / Ayers Rock, is a large sandstone rock formation in the southern part of the Northern Territory in central Australia. It lies 335 km south west of the nearest large town, Alice Springs. Uluru is sacred to the Pitjantjatjara Anangu, the Aboriginal people of the area. The area around the formation is home to an abundance of springs, waterholes, rock caves and ancient paintings. Uluru is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Uluru and Kata Tjuta, also known as the Olgas, are the two major features of the Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park. 15514

"In Ducks, Geese, and Swans of North America, Sherwood (1965) reported that mixing of broods (known as brood amalgamation) occurred because at first, neither the parents nor the goslings could recognize each other. When the young were 2-3 weeks old, the parents could recognize them and brood mixing halted. According to Sherwood, goslings were unable to recognize their parents or broodmates before they were 5-6 weeks of age."

3408 forming train 15514 - 08.14 Marco Canaveses to Port São Bento is seen departing Campanhã

As travel opportunities are somewhat limited at the moment, I've started looking through the back catalogue of un-posted material and there's quite a lot to go at.

WDP3 No. 15514 departs Delhi Cantonment with train 2RD 07h40 Rewari - Delhi Jn Passenger on 27th October 2007. The metre gauge service had been discontinued 2 years previously and the single track broad gauge line was somehow expected to handle all the express trains and the substantial commuter volumes! Running a few passenger trains such as this with load 23 certainly helped, but expresses such as the Ashram still set sail from Delhi Cantoment etc with a healthy contingent of people on the roof!

The route is now broad gauge, double tracked and electrified.

Last train of the 2006 trip was this beast, Tughlakabad WDP3A #15514 with train 8RD, the 17:15 Rewari Junction - Delhi Sarai Rohilla Passenger. Seen at its destination on Saturday 12th November.

As we made our wary towards Delhi there was a gradual worsening of the air quaility as the city's smog got steadily denser, to the point were I found it difficult to breath.

Our old walnut (English walnut) tree was starting to rot near the base and I was worried about it falling and taking off the end of the house, so it was time for it to come down.

Alister from Treetech was up the tree with the battery powered chain saw. Lower down he had to switch to the bigger petrol chain saw for the bigger trunk section.

Tughlakabad WDM3A 16396 at Delhi Sarah Rohilla with the 17:35 AC Double Decker Express to Jaipur, train 12986, Tuesday 20th March 2018. This was the fourth time I'd come across this engine on the trip, but still hadn't been hauled by it! Stabled at Rajkot 02/03/2018; working 04401 (ANVT-SVDK) 13/03/2018; working 14036 @ PTK 15/03/2018 and finally the above train.

Due to late running and wedged trains I'd done the return Farrukh Nagar - Saharanpur 'Janta' Express to Sarah Rohilla to pick up the 16:10 Delhi Jn - Rewari Jn Passenger, a good bet for a WDP3A and a comfortable 110 minute connection onto my overnight at Rewari. Sadly, it turned out to be nothing like comfortable: stood up in a steaming hot and rammed coach, trying to keep hold of my bag in the crush and away from the seeping stench eminating from the toilet, for two and a half hours. It was also well late and losing time: I was getting quite anxious about making my overnight - one more looping for an overtake and I'd have been in the shit (rather than just literally standing in it - well piss - next to the loo). To cap it all I also suffered a damn dull EMD as power - nightmare (although I did get my overnight). A WDP3A would have made the hardship more than bearable, a GM made it insufferable.

Would loved to have taken 16396 but a combination of no valid ticket (thanks to Indian Railway's for withdrawing the Indrail Pass and any flexibility with it) and the fact it is one of the few trains to not have a booked halt at Rewari put paid to that (although I imagine it probably does stop? - nothing 'pulling the chain' couldn't cure, I'm sure!).

Ratlam WDM3D beast 11544 at Ambala Cantt. Junction with the bi-weekly Indore - Amritsar Express, train 19325. I fell on this at Saharanpur after a little bit of off piste move variation. Saturday 10th March 2018.

I bought a Mail/Express General Unreserved ticket back (Rs45) but it was so wedged I secreted myself in the Sleeper Class where there was plenty of room, although stood in the vestibule, as I don't like 'The Unreserved' invading my booked space and didn't want to cause any hypocritical offence (unlikely, but...). After a while an older, friendly and chatty brother/sister couple invited me to sit with them.

On crossing the pointwork entering Ambala a TTI (travelling ticket inspector) appeared and relieved me of Rs100 (£1.20) for the privilege; a meagre amount but it felt like £100 - it's a very long time since I've been excessed!

TKD 15514 WDP3A Pushpak(Tuglakhabad Diesel Shed Belonging To Northern Railways) Brings in the Rewari - New Delhi - Meerut Passenger Train at Shahbad Mohammadpur , Delhi............People Sitting On The Train are a Common Site on Delhi Cantt - Jaipur Route...............:)

Rubbish photo but it is a legendary WDP3A and first of the trip: solidly loud beasts even if they look like a 5-year old's made them out of Lego. Only 44 were built in the mid-90's and they're now on the endangered species list.

Tughlakabad's 15514 at journey's end of Shri Ganganagar at 01:30 on the morning (middle of the night!) of Sunday 11th March 2018 with the InterCity "Rishikesh" (the train name claimed at SGNR, anyway) Express, 14:15 from Haridwar. WDP1 15008 lurks behind it.

Only 85 minutes late, which is good going for this train as it has a stupidly short turn around at Haridwar and not enough time to service the stock at SGNR. During fog season it can run well into double figures hours late, to the point where one day's service runs into another and they cancel the odd one in a vain attempt to stop the never ending rot! It cut the fester down for my next move at 04:20 but didn't miss, so can't complain.

The name definitely fits..... possibly this species: bugguide.net/node/view/15514
