Park car Sibley Park has been moved so that it is near a gate at one end of the Angus Pavilion, as it is supposed to be refurbished in the near future.

The Sibley Park is one of a batch of eighteen cars named after various Canadian national or provincial parks, of which some are still operating. The Park cars are streamlined passenger vehicles made of stainless steel having a double function: they are at the same time sleeping-cars and panoramic observation dome-cars. Each one of the “Park” cars offers a similar configuration: a triple occupancy room, three double occupancy rooms, twenty-four seats in the dome, a shared bathroom, a bar and a panoramic lounge room in the rear. Before its passenger train acquisition by VIA Rail in 1978, the Canadian Pacific Railway used them between 1954 and 1978.

Eighteen Canadian artists, some from the Group of Seven were responsible for painting appropriate frescoes in each car with the aim of capturing the essence of each park of which the cars bear the names. Yvonne McKague Housser, the only women painter working on this project and one of the founding members of the Canadian Group of Painters was chosen to decorate the Sibley Park car.

Transport Rally and Running Day on August 30, 2015

Leyland Fleetline FE30AGR Roe

The first time this has been seen in steam in the UK.

It was one of a series of six 0-4-2 side tank locos built for the Sena Sugar Estates in Mozambique by John Fowler & Co of Leeds in 1920.

Statfold Barn, 10.6.23.

Park Car Sibley Park has recently been moved into Exporail's main building (the Angus pavilion) where it is expected to be restored cosmetically. It takes the place of the Dominion of Canada steam engine beside Royal Hudson CP 2850.

Not a common UK sight is a wood burning steam locomotive in the form of 2ft gauge 0-4-2T V11, Statfold Barn Railway, 10th August 2023.

Locomotive History

V11 was one of six locomotives built by John Fowler, Leeds (works no. 15513) in 1920 for the Sena Sugar Estates system in Mozambique. After having spent it's entire working life on the Sena system, it then spent a period lying derelict until around 1998 when a large number of withdrawn Sena engines were brought over to the UK. 15513 was subsequently purchased by a West Lancashire Light Railway member and arrived at the railway in 2000. After several years stored dismantled in a container, restoration finally commenced in the early 2010s with a return to traffic in June 2023.

Locomotive History

Sragi No.1 was built by Krauss, Germany (works no.4045) in 1899 for the Sragi Sugar Mill, Java and worked there for around the next hundred years or so. V11 was one of six locomotives built by John Fowler, Leeds (works no. 15513) in 1920 for the Sena Sugar Estates system in Mozambique.

No VII is unusual in that it is a wood burner - probably the first I've seen.
