100 Miles Square: There is no better way to square your meals than with a 100-mile radius ;) I shot this map at the Ballard Sunday Farmers' Market in Seattle, Summer 2007. Seattle is in the center, sourcing local foods for the three million residents of the immediate area.

View it large and it's a usable guide for a 100 Mile Diet in Seattle. They labeled this a work in progress; does anyone know of an updated version online?

My wife, Mango Power Girl and I have been big supporters of eating local foods and farmers' markets. In 2007, we ate a 100 Mile Diet for one month, and as you can see and read on her food blog we have enjoyed local foods only more since then. In 2008, we joined a broad coalition of environmental, family focused, and other citizen organizations to lobby the Washington State Legislature in favor of Farm to School laws -- and we won!

Our Eat Local Now! Dinner was April 29th, 2008, as @ www.eatlocalnow.org.

As I walked past Danny I knew I wanted to photograph him, unfortunately I had an appointment and reluctantly walked on. Later I saw Danny on the street with a friend and again walked on. Sometime after as I turned a corner I almost bumped into Danny while he was chatting to some of his friends. I did the usual and while walking on and talking to myself I found myself asking Danny if I might photograph him. I explained I had seen him several times before, he laughed and asked if I was stalking him. When I explained about the project and told him people usually ask their subjects to walk into an alleyway with them and what did he think of that, he instantly suggested an alleyway he knew and laughingly asked me what I thought of that. So this is Danny, a free lance journalist and all round nice guy.

This is Megan, I Instantly love this photo. The background and her smoking proves very photogenic. I seen her on Argyle street under central station and she caught my eye being very artsy interesting looking and all. I gave her my card so she can see what I was doing... (so if you see Megan, cheers!)

Love this night gown. I found it the other day at a Salvation Army Thrift Store. Probably from the Sixties and nearly new. Paid $1 for it. I always envied girls because they could wear pretty things like this.

Custom Lego Rolls Royce Phantom Got the idea from a builder in the UK at the Steam show in England. I took what i liked and added my own ideas to it as well. Hats off to the builder in the UK he did some amazing work that took me a while to figure out!!!!

The best quilt shop on Kauai! I don't own it, I just shop there. They carry the biggest selection of my patterns. You can also find my quilts hanging there.

I bumped into a really nice couple in Mall of Dubai yesterday. He was taking pictures of his wife and waited until he was done before I approached them. I asked if I could take their photos and they agreed. Then we started talking and I found out they were British but living in Kuwait due to their business. They were on a vacation in Dubai and were liking the place.

Thank you for letting me take your photos :)

Still trawling the streets near Covent Garden, Peter went off to ask someone for a picture when I spotted this lovely lady walking with a large group of friends.

I stopped and asked her for a picture which she agreed to as if it was the most natural thing in the world to her. I was out of moo cards by this stage so I wrote down my email address on the piece of paper and gave it to her. I've not had an email from her so I don't know if she'll ever see this picture which is a shame. But maybe not such a shame as I didn't write down her name and while I think it is Tanya, I'm not 100% sure.

I didn't chat much with her, I think I was pretty worn out by this stage and was operating on autopilot. But I'm so glad that she agreed to this picture as I think she is beautiful and I love the contrast between the red and different shades of blue.

Day 100 of 365: a year in songs and photos

Song: The Fray, Hundred

I made it to a hundred. Let it be known that this is probably the farthest I've made it on any planned long term project. I usually start out projects like this gung ho and then part way through I become unsure about whether I want to continue or not. The lyrics were perfect for tonight!

I knew I wanted to take a picture of 100 something today. But what? I spent a lot of time at work going through various ideas and discarding them. Then I remembered the big box of photos I have that are impatiently waiting for me to buy a new scanner. A photograph of 100 photographs. Why not? So I spent about an hour picking out 100 and that hour made me smile, cry, laugh and feel a bit melancholy. 90% of the photos of are my children. My god, time goes so fast. But I'm not going to emote all over my flickr post tonight.

So much reminiscing can really wipe you out.

If you are at all interested in what the photos are, stop back because I'm going to start putting flickr notes on all the pictures I can.

I saw her beautiful curly reddy brown hair out of the corner of my eye as we were wondering around Carnaby Street. Amy was standing by Choccywoccydoodah having a cigarette break. I approached her and explained the project and without hesitation agreed to be apart of it.

Amy describes herself as English Carribean, works in the Choccywoocydoodah shop (what a cool name for a shop) and loves working there.

She asked where I would like her and I said that here was perfect. I took three shots of her and she did that thing a lot girls do which was to pout. She only pouted a little and it actually looked quite nice (see comments section). When I asked her not to pout she said she couldn't as it just happens when a camera is about :-). Anyway, I managed to take this shot which I liked.

Amy seemed like a lovely person and I would have loved to chat with her more but at the same time I didn't want her to lose all of her break just chatting to me!! Thank you for being my 26th stranger in this project Amy. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the
