I met Kalana on Oak Street Beach one very unseasonably warm day in early March. I had been out street shooting all day and we decided to walk over to the beach since it was such a gorgeous day out. I had taken a few shots of Kalana reading and relaxing on the beach before I approached her and asked her if she would be part of my 100 Strangers Project. Kalana is from Hawaii and has been in Chicago for the past two years. She is a student at the Moody Bible Institute.
Thank you, Kalana, for being number 20 in my 100 Strangers Project.

Thierry - “I was not on a path to the doctorate.”
“Are you good with the skateboard? There's a photo I'd like to try...”
“Yes, but this is my first time this year, so it depends what.”
“Just an easy move”. He accepts, we take the shot. “Is there something you're proud of, or an accomplishment you'd like to talk about?”
“My doctorate! I'm really happy and proud about that.”
“Why?”
“Well, let's just say that a few years back, I clearly was not on that path. Back in France, I finished a BEP and I was heading for a professional career. But I'm glad I pushed and came back for my doctorate.”
“What is the program that you're in?”
“...Wait, you wont post that online, will you?”
“Yes, on Flickr. It's a project done by some ten thousands other photographers. Why?”
“Well I don't want people or my teachers at my university seeing me in a T-shirt and on a skateboard.”
“I'll just use your first name in the photo, the odds someone stumble on your picture and recognize you is next to nil. Also, in our school system, the way you dress has no impact on anything... But if you don't want, I won't put it online.”
“You're right, I'm just over-thinking this.”

My friends (Zoey, Leanna, Robert and Lydia) and I went to the U of M tonight to go and find a party, that was a complete failure. We found this awesome silver drainage pipe sitting by a parking garage, It took many attempts to get this photo, what was ment to be a quick photo turned out to be like and hour. My flash triggers decided to finally give up on me, its a good thing I just ordered some new ones. I am so glad I am finally moving beyond the point of a amateur photographer. I am booking a few weddings, senior photos and events a year in advance. I am happy that I have my website out ( I need to update it) I finally feel good about having a secure career.

100 Miles Square: There is no better way to square your meals than with a 100-mile radius ;) I shot this map at the Ballard Sunday Farmers' Market in Seattle, Summer 2007. Seattle is in the center, sourcing local foods for the three million residents of the immediate area.
View it large and it's a usable guide for a 100 Mile Diet in Seattle. They labeled this a work in progress; does anyone know of an updated version online?
My wife, Mango Power Girl and I have been big supporters of eating local foods and farmers' markets. In 2007, we ate a 100 Mile Diet for one month, and as you can see and read on her food blog we have enjoyed local foods only more since then. In 2008, we joined a broad coalition of environmental, family focused, and other citizen organizations to lobby the Washington State Legislature in favor of Farm to School laws -- and we won!
Our Eat Local Now! Dinner was April 29th, 2008, as @ www.eatlocalnow.org.
As I walked past Danny I knew I wanted to photograph him, unfortunately I had an appointment and reluctantly walked on. Later I saw Danny on the street with a friend and again walked on. Sometime after as I turned a corner I almost bumped into Danny while he was chatting to some of his friends. I did the usual and while walking on and talking to myself I found myself asking Danny if I might photograph him. I explained I had seen him several times before, he laughed and asked if I was stalking him. When I explained about the project and told him people usually ask their subjects to walk into an alleyway with them and what did he think of that, he instantly suggested an alleyway he knew and laughingly asked me what I thought of that. So this is Danny, a free lance journalist and all round nice guy.
