Matlacha liegt auf einer Insel in einer Meerenge zwischen Pine Island und dem Festland Floridas im Golf von Mexiko. Über mehrere Brücken wird der CDP durch die Pine Island Road mit Pine Island und dem Festland bei Cape Coral verbunden. Matlacha liegt rund 23 km westlich von Fort Myers. Meet Jean-Marc. He's 53 but sadly at the the moment; due to ill health, cannot work. He was a delivery van driver before he had to stop. He wasn't easy to talk to and was not overly eager to give me any further information about himself. Other than he doesn't have a computer. I offered to give him a copy of the photo, but he said I needn't bother.

White Potato Vine (Solanum jasminoides)
For Day 100 I decided to get brave and take a picture right after coming out of the shower. This is a shot of me uploading that photograph from my camera and cropping into the image on my laptop. A picture within a picture.
100 pictures, 1 a day, every day. I'm surprised I stuck with it so far. I didn't think I'd make it past day 50 but it simply became a part of my daily routine. Just like brushing my teeth, taking a shower and eating dinner.
A lot has happened over the past 100 days of my life.
My father returned from Iraq, I went to Las Vegas on Halloween, witnessed my good friend getting married, I celebrated Thanksgiving and Christmas with my family for the first time in over 4 years, We moved into a new flat and bought a car. It's the 20th day of the New Year. Thanks to this photo project every day is documented.
It's not just the act of opening up and offering everyone a window into your existance, but it's creating a photographic personal history to reflect on later in life. I've even made new friends along the way.
Thank you to everyone that has come along for the journey so far
and Thank you to those that shared their own daily life through pictures for me to view.
I'll keep it up if you will

Today I met Robert a Vietnam Veteran. An ex marine who served in Vietnam for 10 years. He told me he was just doing his job in 'Nam and he feels his two sons who are both marines and served in Afghanistan and Iraq had it harder than him.
Robert doesn't live too far away from us but it's the first time our paths have crossed. When he first came into the restaurant he was going to sit next to us but said didn't want to impose. I am sure next time we meet he will come sit with us. It's always a pleasure to meet someone like Robert and listen to them.

We met John at the Potters Shed at the Petrie Country Markets. He said he played with clay where his wife was a wonderful potter.
He was proud of his braces as he bought them at a market in La Bourne in France.

We had a last minute opportunity to take "The North Pole Express" (the Pere Marquette 1225 steam locomotive) yesterday. It was a fun family trip - an hour train ride, two hours in a Christmas village, and an hour back.
Barney was one of the workers manning the locomotive. A reservoir of a tremendous amount of knowledge of steam engines, he explained fascinating details to anyone with a question. For example, the boiler contains 7,000 gallons of water and takes about two days to heat up enough to run the train. Also, in the days when steam locomotives were in use on the railroads, each engine took about 30 men to maintain it at all times.
Barney said that he has been working on steam engines for about 30 years, since childhood. He has been with the Pere Marquette 1225 for twelve years. He and his father have four small steam engines that they bring around the country for various shows and uses.
He was a great sport when I explained the project and asked to take his photograph. I gave him a business card, so hopefully he will be able to look this up and can see how awesome it turned out.

Nursing a sore knee, Larry was in the hills, and I was doing a photo walk in downtown Calgary and the Calgary Zoo. The Conservatory at the Zoo is a great place to find blossoms. For this year of 100 Flowers, I'm focussing on indoor flowers.
I don't think anyone can comprehend what I'm going through right now.
I feel kinda like roadkill, with TNT stuffed in my sinus's, with someone peeling off my skin and just rubbing rough, scratchy sea salt into my open sores. I hate this.
(Can you tell I'm not sick very often?)
I'm too busy to write a long description. My plans for an awesome Day 100 tomorrow most likely are ruined. Love you all.

It has become almost traditional of me to start the year with a selfie!
No 365 for me this year. I managed it for 2023, but it was tough.

It was so good to be released from our "Stay local" rules on Monday and this was my celebration shot of a wave at our nearest beach.
21/100: The 2021 edition.
This weekend the steam locomotive 26.26 has made its first official journey with passengers after its restoration! BDZ organized several Christmas trains to Bankya with this old lady and also on the narrow gauge railway to Velingrad. As always there were a lot of interest for the trains and despite the bad weather, many enthusiats went to ride or just to see the retro locomotives. On the photo steam loco 26.26 is waiting at Bankya station while the modern Siemens train is ready for departure with the noon service towards Sofia. Interesting fact is that there are exactly 100 years difference between those two railway units! Steam locomotive 26.26 of BDZ was made in 1908 and the Siemens Desiro EMU has been assembled in 2008.

This is the first photo of just a hand that I took, and it came about by accident.
I was driving this lady to a clinic, and we had to wait in a car park. I had my camera in my lap (you know how you do in case something photographic turns up,) when I happened to notice the light falling on her hand that was guarding her handbag.
Camera on lap, screen facing up looking down for a rough sighting and auto-focus, I managed a shot before she moved. When both hands came to rest again I managed another couple of shots before we were called.
Imagine my delight (and surprise) when this image came up on my monitor.
Talk about luck.
Another old one, I'm afraid. If you haven't seen it, I hope you like it. It was taken with my first digicamera, the Nikon 880. I did enjoy that camera with its swivel body.
