The Spanish Steps are located on the Piazza di Spagna in Rome. The term Spanish Steps is often used as a popular name for this square. Here is also the Fontana della Barcaccia literally: Fountain of the ugly boat . The fountain provides the Piazza di Spagna with a picturesque appearance. The Stairs belong to the church Trinitá dei Monti. The church, with its two towers dominating the Spanish Steps, was originally founded by the French King Louis XII in 1502. Already in the 17th century they wanted to connect this church with the square below where the Spanish embassy was located, hence the name Piazza di Spagna. There is an Obelisk in front of the church. The Obelisk Sallustiano is one of the thirteen old obelisks of Rome. It was built in Roman imperial times in imitation of the Egyptian obelisks. The obelisk was given in 1738 to Pope Clement XII. On 8 December, the Pope traditionally brings a flower tribute to the statue of Mary at the foot of the Spanish Steps.

Rome is the capital of Italy and located in the Lazio region. The city has about 2.8 million inhabitants, the population of the metropolitan region is 3.7 million. The history of the city can be tasted in the many old buildings that the city possesses. Worth seeing are the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Pantheon, St. Peter's Basilica, the Trevi Fountain and the Victor Emmanuel II Monument. Rome is just one big open-air museum. Throughout the history of more than 2700 years, the city developed into one of the most important cities of Western culture. Rome was the capital of the Roman Kingdom. Rome is located in the Lazio region in the middle of Italy. The city lies on the banks of the Tiber. The center is located on seven hills. In Rome you can not escape a comparison between the past and the present.
Piazza Del Grillo is a charming street in the center of ancient Rome in the Monti district just steps from the Colosseum and Roman Forum. The street takes its name from an ancient Roman family called Del Grillo who owned a beautiful eighteenth century building connected by an overpass in an adjacent medieval Torre delle Milizie, located in the heart of the historic center of Rome, near Trajan's Markets. It gained the popular nickname of "Nero's Tower" from a tradition that it originated as an ancient Roman construction from which Emperor Nero watched the Great Fire of Rome in the year AD 64. It caused widespread devastation.
Rome is gewoon één groot openluchtmuseum.

The Deutscher Dom (German Church or New Church) is part of an important architectural ensemble composed of the German Church, the French Church, and the Konzerthaus (Concert Hall). The ensemble is located on the Gendarmenmarkt which is regarded as one of the most beautiful places in Berlin.
Reflected in the windows of the Quartier 205, a shopping mall, commercial and residential house located between the Gendarmenmarkt and Friedrichstrasse, is the domed tower of the German / New Church. The tower of the German Church, which is much bigger than the building of the church itself, never had a sacral function. In fact the name "Dom" refers to the French word dôme / English dome, and not to a cathedral. Complicated? Let's make it a little more so, the German Church is not to be confused with the Berlin Cathedral which in fact is a real cathedral and the Evangelical Supreme Parish and Collegiate Church of Berlin, Germany.

From the 8th century BC. the settlements of the surrounding hills united and the city of Rome was founded. The Forum Romanum also known as Foro Romano, is a plaza surrounded by the ruins of several important ancient government buildings at the center of the city of Rome. When you look at the Roman Forum today, you will see a large plain full of ruins. Yet this has not always been the case. Once the Forum Romanum was the bustling center of Rome. Everyone came here. Acting on political talk, important decisions were taken at the Roman Forum. There were several temples where people could pray. For a thousand years, the Forum of Romanum was the center that everyone attended, but in the Middle Ages this once-important center fell back because people became less and less interested in this center. The trade moved to Trajan's markets. The forum Romanum changed into a meadow where cows could graze. Stones and other building materials were taken away to be reused for new buildings. The forum slowly changed into a meadow where farmers had their cows grazed between the last ancient remains. At that time it was given the nickname Campo Vaccino, the cow field. Already during the renaissance people got interested in ancient Rome and the antique buildings of the forum, but this was mainly expressed in occasional treasure tombs in various places throughout the site. From 1800 onwards, work became more structured. In 1870 there was an overall excavation. The forum is now one of the biggest tourist attractions in the city.
Two thousand years ago, the Roman Forum in Rome must have looked imposing. The Roman Forum was the center of ancient Rome. Here were the most beautiful buildings of the Romans: public buildings, temples and memorials. We visit Rome on a hot summersday and temperatures soar to over 40ºC. Photo from the Piazza di Santa Maria Nova at the main entrance of Parco archeologico. We took it slow amid region’s most intense heatwave.
Vanaf 1800 ging men structureler te werk.

From the 8th century BC. the settlements of the surrounding hills united and the city of Rome was founded. The Forum Romanum also known as Foro Romano, is a plaza surrounded by the ruins of several important ancient government buildings at the center of the city of Rome. The Temple of Saturn on the left side of this photo was an ancient Roman temple to the god Saturn. Its ruins stand at the foot of the Capitoline Hill at the western end of the Roman Forum. The original dedication of the temple is traditionally dated to 497 BC. In Roman mythology, Saturn ruled during the Golden Age, and he continued to be associated with wealth. His temple housed the treasury where the Roman Republic's reserves of gold and silver were stored. The three remaining columns on the right of the photo are from the Temple of Vespasian and Titus. The temple was built by Titus in honor of his deceased father Vespasian. Titus, however, only reigned for a few years. The temple was the first important addition to the forum since the time of Emperor Augustus.

From the 8th century BC. the settlements of the surrounding hills united and the city of Rome was founded. The Forum Romanum also known as Foro Romano, is a plaza surrounded by the ruins of several important ancient government buildings at the center of the city of Rome. The Basilica Julia was a large, ornate, public building used for meetings and other official business during the early Roman Empire. Its ruins have been excavated In the 18th century. What is left from its classical period are mostly foundations, floors, a small back corner wall with a few arches that are part of both the original building and later Imperial reconstructions and a single column from its first building phase. The Basilica Julia was initially dedicated in 46 BC by Julius Caesar. The basilica measures 101 by 49 meters. The building was entirely covered with precious white marble. On the Forum side, images of the greatest artists were displayed in niches.
The large building in front of the piazza of the Forum is the Julia Basilica. It was very large and here, too, Roman justice was administered: in fact, it held various tribunals. The interior was divided by columns into five large naves and was so vast that it was often divided into smaller spaces by curtains so that several trials could take place simultaneously. From the 8th century BC. the settlements of the surrounding hills united and the city of Rome was founded. The Forum Romanum also known as Foro Romano, is a plaza surrounded by the ruins of several important ancient government buildings at the center of the city of Rome. The Arch of Septimius Severus at the Roman Forum is a white marble triumphal arch dedicated in AD 203 to the Parthian victories. The Arch is about 23 metres in height. The Arch stands close to the foot of the Capitoline Hill. A flight of steps originally led to the central opening. Over the centuries, the ground level on the forum had risen considerably. The lower part of the Arch of Septimius Severus was under the ground, so that the bow seemed to be much lower. In the Middle Ages, the arch was partially built into a nearby church and a fortress. Because of this, the arch never broke down what has happened with many other ancient monuments. In the 18th century the large excavations on the Forum started and the arch was restored to its former state. It is now one of the most remarkable Roman structures left over at the Forum.
The Arch of Septimius Severus, erected in AD 203, stands in Rome. The triple triumphal arch was one of the most richly decorated of its type and even today, although badly damaged, it stands in the Forum Romanum as a lasting and imposing monument to Roman vanity. The Temple of Saturn on the right side was an ancient Roman temple to the god Saturn. Its ruins stand at the foot of the Capitoline Hill and is traditionally dated to 497 BC. We visit Rome on a hot summersday and temperatures soar to over 40ºC. We took it slow amid region’s most intense heatwave.

Back when railway stations were designed with a sense of style and purpose, this confection was landed in Bagenalstown in County Carlow. The symmetrical design was to cater for the vast flow of passengers in and out - though they had departed by the time this shot was taken. We learned that this station, together with several other "picturesque gothic" stations in Ireland, was designed by English architect Sancton Wood. Though closed for a period in the late 20th century, Muine Bheag (Bagenalstown) station is since reopened and is a "halt" on the Dublin to Waterford line...

In order to get many of the valley shots with minimal foreground in the way, I had to stand inside bushes like the one in the foreground of this image. I decided it was a good idea to take a picture of the actual hiking trail itself to remember what the hiking conditions were like to get these amazing views (even though you can get nearly equivalent views from the roadway itself - HA!). Also, for those who have never been to Yosemite, it is impossible to impress the scale of these mountains. El Capitan, the prominent perpendicular cliff to the left-center of the image, is over 2.5 miles away from the camera, and the camera is not zoomed at all. Just to give myself some perspective, I picked a point near Harvard University on Google Maps that was 2.5 miles away from the Prudential Center (as the bird flies), and street view'd the Pru over the Charles River. You could see it, but it was a tiny speck in the distance. Here's the link if you're interested: goo.gl/maps/AyBd7Dp6FQ12 . The Dolomites are a mountain range located in northeastern Italy. Typical of the Dolomites are the steep cliffs and peaks created by erosion and weathering. They form a part of the Southern Alps. The Dolomites, also known as the Pale Mountains, take their name from the carbonate rock dolomite. In August 2009, the Dolomites were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Marmolada of 3343 meter high is the highest mountain of the Dolomites. On it's norther side there is flat glacier. The ridge is composed of several summits, decreasing in altitude from west to east. An aerial tramway goes to the top of Punta Rocca. During the ski season the Marmolada's main ski run is opened for skiers and snowboarders alike, making it possible to ski down into the valley. On the south wall of the Marmolada there are beautiful routes for mountaineers and many of them are also suitable for hiking.
Marmolada is a mountain in northeastern Italy and the highest mountain - 3342m, of the Dolomites, a section of the Alps. An aerial tramway goes to the top of Punta Rocca - The queen of the Dolomites. Its brilliant white glacier dominates many a beautiful panorama and is much admired by walkers from near and distant trails. The main slope is “La Bellunese”, which stretches from Punta Rocca 3269m down to Malga Ciapela at 1446m.

Verbier : Mont fort and the Grand Combin.Canton of Valais, Switzerland. Izakigur 25.02.11, 13:50:41.
I appreciate and honoured for your kind and inspiring comments. Together makes us stronger... I appreciate this opportunity to learn from each other...Thats the meaning of this collaboration and sharing . Take care ...keep on doing . )
Me.
"Mont Fort is a mountain of the Pennine Alps, located near Verbier in the Swiss canton of Valais. It lies on the range between the valleys of Bagnes and Nendaz, north of the Rosablanche. With a height of 3,328 metres above sea level, Mont Fort is the highest summit north of the Col de Louvie (2,921 m).
Mont Fort is surrounded by several glaciers, the largest being the Glacier de Tortin, on its northwestern side. The second largest is the Glacier du Mont Fort, located on its northeastern side. On its eastern side lies the lower summit Petit Mont Fort (3,135 m). The Glacier du Petit Mont Fort lies between the two summits. There are no glaciers on the south side of the mountain. A small lake named Lac du Petit Mont Fort (2,764 m) lies on the south flank.
The summit of Mont Fort is easily accessible by cable car from the heights of Verbier or Nendaz. The cable cars from the two valleys converge at the intermediate station (2,894 m) north of the Col des Gentianes, the upper section reaching a height of 3,308 metres. In the winter and early spring season, the mountain, including the Glacier de Tortin, is the culminating point of the 4 Vallées ski area.

As unusually cold weather gripped Europe at the beginning of March 2018. Nicknamed: The Beast from the East, the cold front caused travel chaos, with hundreds of flights cancelled. Trains broke down. Motorists found themselves stuck on highways and trapped in frosty conditions for hours. This is particularly unusual weather is something that happens very rarely in this country. The big chill also froze canals in the Stavoren - Netherlands. Ice on the Voorstraat canal was thick enough for residents to lace up their skates and glide across its frozen surface. It’s just cool. You can go fast and you see the world from a slightly different perspective. When the temperature drops low enough for long enough, the lakes and the canals become sparkling highways for the skaters. Little kiosks are set up on the ice to dispense heart-warming liqueurs. I really love this part of our culture. Almost everyone, young or old, likes to skate and is smiling and friendly. Today it's the first day of ice skating on natural ice in Friesland. Still no ideal conditions, but I enjoy the sound of my skates over the ice and the view of the village. It is minus two degrees celcius and great skating weather. During the month January and February thousands of geese can be found here in Friesland. The geese are migratory, moving south or west in winter. The greylag geese fly in V- formation to save themselves energy. Friesland in the winter is a real skater’s paradise.
Photo taken from the canal in Stavoren - Netherlands. Parents with children are back on the ice. It was laid-back and hot chocolate milk was enjoyed as it should be. The ice is not equally good everywhere but here in Stavoren you can get nice skating in the front street. Look at the many geese flying in the air. At this time of year they are easy to find in Friesland.
'It sil heve', 'it giet oan'...
Nowadays, these ancient cannons would not hurt a fly.
They remind us that previously, during the Spanish colonization, the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea were infested with pirates who did not hesitate to plunder the coastal cities.
