For Macro Monday's theme: "Backwards"
It's been five months since I've done a Macro Monday! This is really weird ... but the idea came to me in the middle of the night. It isn't particularly original, I'm sure someone already thought of it but I didn't even peek into the group yet.

Manhattan is the oldest and the most densely populated of the five boroughs of New York City. Located primarily on Manhattan Island at the mouth of the Hudson River, the boundaries of the borough are identical to those of New York County, an original county of the state of New York. The borough and county consist of Manhattan Island and several small adjacent islands: Roosevelt Island, Randall's Island, Wards Island, Governors Island, Liberty Island, part of Ellis Island,[1] Mill Rock, and U Thant Island; as well as Marble Hill, a very small area on the mainland bordering the Bronx. The original city of New York began at the southern end of Manhattan, expanded northwards, and then between 1874 and 1898, annexed land from surrounding counties.
The County of New York is the most densely populated county in the United States, and one of the most densely populated areas in the world, with a 2008 population of 1,634,795[2] living in a land area of 22.96 square miles (59.47 km²), or 71,201 residents per square mile (27,485/km²). It is also one of the wealthiest counties in the United States, with a 2005 personal income per capita above $100,000.[3] Manhattan is the third-largest of New York's five boroughs in population, and its smallest borough in size.
Manhattan is a major commercial, financial, and cultural center of both the United States and the world.[4][5][6] Anchored by Wall Street in Lower Manhattan, New York City vies with the City of London as the financial capital of the world[7][8][9][10][11][12][13] and is home of both the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ. Many major radio, television, and telecommunications companies in the United States are based here, as well as many news, magazine, book, and other media publishers.
Manhattan has many famous landmarks, tourist attractions, museums, and universities. It is also home to the headquarters of the United Nations. It is the center of New York City and the New York metropolitan region, hosting the seat of city government and a large portion of the area's employment, business, and entertainment activities. As a result, residents of New York City's other boroughs such as Brooklyn and Queens often refer to a trip to Manhattan as "going to the city",[14] despite the comparable populations between those boroughs.
For Jackie's birthday, we went to the city for a Molly's Cupcake; then headed over to Montrose Harbor to do a photo shoot with her birthday balloons. No photoshoot is complete without our toys!! It was a lively shoot with the wind whipping Totoro around. We wound the ribbons around his arm & tail to anchor him. He smiled throughout and didn't complain once!!

Hope everyone has been well! I have been!! I hope you can "see" the people in the above, it is a street scene manipulated by me. It seems interesting to me that in the thumbnail the people seem more recognizable, and get more distorted the larger the view. Or perhaps not! :-)))))

Emerald Lake is one of the most admired destinations in Yoho National Park, with an unmatched diversity of both activities and landscapes suited to the enthusiastic traveler.
The hike around the lake, clocking in at about an hour, is one of the least strenuous but most rewarding in the park. An incredible breadth of geological features can be viewed from the lake, including the world-famous Burgess Shale fossil beds, the Michael glacier, and an avalanche slope carpeted by meadows where moose often graze.

"A heart that's full up like a landfill,
a job that slowly kills you,
bruises that won't heal
You were so tired, happy,
bring down the government,
they don't, they don't speak for her
I'll take the quiet life,
a handshake of carbon monoxide
No alarms and no surprises"

The Val d’Orcia, or Valdorcia, is a region of Tuscany, central Italy, which extends from the hills south of Siena to Monte Amiata. It is characterised by gentle, carefully cultivated hills occasionally broken by gullies and by picturesque towns and villages such as Pienza (rebuilt as an “ideal town” in the 15th century under the patronage of Pope Pius II), Radicofani (home to the notorious brigand-hero Ghino di Tacco) and Montalcino (the Brunello di Montalcino is counted among the most prestigious of Italian wines). It is a landscape which has become familiar through its depiction in works of art from the Renaissance painting to the modern photograph.
In 2004 the Val d’Orcia was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites under these criteria:
* Criterion (iv): The Val d’Orcia is an exceptional reflection of the way the landscape was re-written in Renaissance times to reflect the ideals of good governance and to create an aesthetically pleasing pictures.
* Criterion (vi): The landscape of the Val d’Orcia was celebrated by painters from the Scuola Senese, which flourished during the Renaissance. Images of the Val d’Orcia, and particularly depictions of landscapes where people are depicted as living in harmony with nature, have come to be seen as icons of the Renaissance and have profoundly influenced the development of landscape thinking.

"The late General Tom Barry, famous for his exploits in the Cork No.3 Brigade flying column in West Cork during the War of Independence, lived with his wife Leslie (née Price, founder of the Irish Red Cross), in a flat directly over Woodford Bourne for many years. The top window on the left would have been theirs from the 1940s until his death in 1980."

Djúpavík is a small village in the North-West of Iceland
it was rough wind there, the sea was blowing over there car while i was on the move, no danger anyway, but not the best weather to photograph....or what? :D
History of settlement -
Djúpavík was first settled in 1917 when Elías Stefánsson built a hering salting factory there. However, due to economic depression, this enterprise went bankrupt in 1919 and, although the business was briefly taken over by others, the site was abandoned during the 1920s.
1934 saw the resettlement of Djúpavík with the foundation of Djúpavík Ltd. in September of that year. A new factory was built (at the time of its construction it was the biggest concrete building in Iceland and one of the biggest in Europe) and despite the harsh conditions the construction was completed within the span of just one year and the factory was operational by July 1935. Initial worries that the catches would not meet requirements proved unfounded and during its early years the enterprise boomed, bringing improved financial status and living standards to the whole region.
Herring catches started to decline after 1944, with a sharp drop in 1948 (when there were almost no catches for two years) and, despite attempts to keep the enterprise running by processing other fish besides herring, the factory closed in 1954 while Djúpavík Ltd. was officially wound down in 1968. After this the residents moved away and the settlement was abandoned again.
In 1985 Hótel Djúpavík was established in the old women's quarters and conservation of the factory and other buildings began.

Two Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradales on the boulevard of Noordwijk aan Zee, the Netherlands.
I visited two location of the Supercardrive this day, took some shots but was mostly just chatting with owners and photographers.
The weather was terrible and there were too many photographers, with many of them walking through my shots.
There were some pretty amazing cars though, so I'll be posting some more shots of this event every once in a while.

The Woodlands is a census-designated place (CDP) and large master-planned community of Montgomery County in the U.S. state of Texas within the Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown metropolitan area. The population was 55,649 at the 2000 census, 90.5% increase over 1990 population. As of 2006, the estimated population had reached approximately 84,418. Much of the development is located in the city of Houston's extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ), but small portions of The Woodlands extends into the ETJ of Shenandoah and Conroe. Plans for annexation of both the Houston and Conroe portions were once in discussion, but regional agreements have been set in place to allow The Woodlands to incorporate itself.
The Woodlands is located 28 miles north of Downtown Houston along Interstate 45. Though it began as a suburban development and a bedroom community, it also has attracted corporations to the area. As a result, the area features several corporate campuses, most notably Chevron Phillips, Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, Baker Hughes, CB&I, and Hewitt Associates. The development won a Special Award for Excellence in 1994 from the Urban Land Institute.
In addition to residential and corporate housing, The Woodlands features a shopping mall, seven golf courses and The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, a regional concert venue, and the 4 star rated The Woodlands Resort. Over the past decade, The Woodlands has seen tremendous growth in terms of commercial/office space in Town Center. Many high-rise office and residential buildings have recently been built. Just completed is 24 Waterway Avenue, a 13 story class A office/retail building.
