Perugia, capital of the region of Umbria, is worth visiting. It covers a high hilltop and part of the valleys around the area. The history of Perugia goes back to the Etruscan period; Perugia was one of the main Etruscan cities. The city is also known as the universities town, with the University of Perugia founded in 1308. Perugia is also a well-known cultural and artistic centre of Italy. The city hosts multiple annual festivals and events.
Perugia historic centre is as compelling as any in Italy, filled with fine Etruscan, Roman and medieval monuments – just be prepared for lots of walking when visiting Perugia. Piazza IV Novembre is located in the heart of Perugia, surrounded by some of the most impressive monuments in the city. The Griffin and the Lion are the two symbols of the city of Perugia above the entrance of Hall of Notaries. You will find Piazza IV Novembre in the center of Perugia, a few steps from some of the famous buildings in the city. This square is the ideal place to relax. In the neighborhood you can visit impressive art galleries, admire old buildings or see enormous cathedrals. On the square are numerous cafes and restaurants where you can recover from all the sightseeing.
Perugia is de hoofdstad van de regio Umbrië en ligt prachtig gelegen op een heuvel op 500 meter hoogte. De stad is rijk aan monumenten en kunstwerken die getuigen van een opeenvolging van culturen door de eeuwen heen, van de Etrusken tot de Romeinen, van de Middeleeuwen tot de Renaissance, tot het heden. Dit maakt Perugia tot een van de mooiste kunststeden van Toscane en Umbrië. Daarnaast is Perugia een echte universiteitsstad. De Universiteit van Perugia is een van de oudste van Europa. Perugia heeft een kosmopolitisch karakter, waar het heel goed toeven is. Dit grote plein kijkt uit over de lagere gelegen delen van de stad en het glooiende landschap om Gubbio heen. Rocca Paolina een unieke bezienswaardigheid. Paus Paulus III gaf in 1540 een architect de opdracht om vestingmuren om de stad te bouwen. De architect koos er gelukkig voor om de poorten in de muur op te nemen. Op verschillende niveaus onder de grond dus, loop je door elkaar kruisende straatjes met tongewelven. Door bogen met elkaar verbonden middeleeuwse huizen, torens, waterputten. Over de Via Baglioni, de belangrijkste ondergrondse straat, kom je via een systeem van roltrappen boven bij Piazza Italia. Het Piazza IV Novembre ligt in het hart van Perugia en wordt omringd door enkele van de meest indrukwekkende monumenten uit de stad. Je vindt het Piazza IV Novembre in het centrum van Perugia, op een steenworp afstand van enkele van de bekende gebouwen in de stad. Dit plein is de ideale plek om even te ontspannen. San Marino is one of the smallest countries in the world and is an independent republic of only 61 square kilometers in size, with its own government and laws even though it is completely surrounded by Italy. The world's oldest sovereign state, it dates from the fourth century AD. Atop the center of this hilly area's highest point, Mount Titano, is the capital city of San Marino. Medieval stone walls enclose the original settlement, built entirely of stone and closed to traffic. A single street leading up to Piazza della Libertà is lined with cafés, restaurants, and shops selling ceramics and duty-free items, one of San Marino's attractions to visiting Italian tourists. The three fortresses at the top of the mountain give San Marino its best-known image and are linked by a path that runs along the entire ridge of the mountain. Although the steep slopes, cliffs and castles of San Marino are impressive enough in themselves, what really takes your breath away is the view from the town. On a clear day you can see the Adriatic a few miles to the east.
San Marino is an independent republic enclosed within Italy. It lies near the Adriatic coast in central Italy. San Marino is said to have been founded in the fourth century by the saint of the same name. Once inside the walled city, it's small enough to simply walk around. The majority of streets can accommodate only small cars, cycles & mopeds. Simply walk around the city. The narrow streets are full of surprises. Technisch gesproken maakt de Republiek San Marino geen deel uit van Italië. Maar het ligt bij de Adriatische Zee en is helemaal ingesloten door Italië. Het is een dwergstaatje en de oudste nog bestaande, onafhankelijke staat van de wereld. Op 3 september 301 werd het ministaatje al opgericht. Door Sint Marinus, vandaar de naam. Nu is het een enclave van zo’n 61 vierkante kilometer binnen Italië. Er wonen 30.000 mensen, die San Marinezen worden genoemd. De grondwet is vastgelegd in 1600 en is daarmee ’s werelds eerste grondwet die nog steeds van kracht is. Het is een van de rijkste landen ter wereld, gemeten naar bruto binnenlands product per hoofd van de bevolking. Ook biedt het staatje, klein als het is, plek aan verschillende Werelderfgoederen volgens UNESCO: Monte Titano, San Marino Città en Borgo Maggiore. San Marino is een groene oase van rust. Compleet met onbedorven landschappen, prachtige heuvels met forten en wijnhuizen. En op heldere dagen kun je vanuit de hoogte zelfs de zee in de verte zien liggen. Officieel maakt San Marino geen deel uit van de Schengenzone (en ook niet van de Europese Unie), maar de grenzen zijn open en je betaalt er gewoon in euro’s. Eénmaal binnen de stadsmuur kan je heerlijk wandelen in het historisch centrum van San Marino. Wandel door de kleine straatjes, en beklim de smalle trappetjes van de vestingmuren van het historische centrum. De nauwe, steile straatjes zijn vol toeristenwinkeltjes. Foto van Samantha.

Previous night :
When I was talking to my sweetheart about finding the moss trolls in Hvalfjörður as a part of our next day programs, from the apartment living room that we rented, I watched the midnight sky, trying to read what weather might be when the sun showed its face in the morning. Above there was no star but some clouds were slowly rolling by.
I checked again the forecast, it showed that the weather should be fine until midday.
In the morning when we were ready to go, Little Dino rechecked the weather. She told me that THE FOG were over the pinned destination and it would be following by…..rain.
Little Dino seemed really disappointed but the next plans we had wouldn’t make her disappointment stayed longer.
Finally we drove around Reykjanes Peninsula.

We were at Gunnuhver, a highly active geothermal area of mud pools and steam. The beach has the rock trolls and the wave is very powerful and dangerous. Oh yes, as always: windy too!
Down there, Little dino was walking to reach the rocky beach while I was busy synchronizing my whole organs body to collect the air, or…...to breathe. :)

"The mid-19th century Hutchinson Homestead includes a log cabin, barn, blacksmith shop, corncrib, meat house, and original furnishings. The Homestead is open Thursday through Sunday from March – October. The grounds can be visited year round."

Dear friends, I wish I had more time for the wonderful world of your photos and sharing my own visual discoveries of the amazing world around us. This was one of the gorgeous sunsets when I was overloaded with work again, and could look at the magic of the evening sky only through my window. But it was so wonderful that I had to grab my camera and try to capture at least a tiny framed area of the magnificent sky seen from my balcony.
I have to sincerely thank all of you who warmly encouraged me to not disappear completely from Flickr and left small friendly reminders here and there. I hope that my current tight multi-project schedule won't last forever, and that I will be able to switch to things and creative projects of my own that allows more time for things that I truly enjoy and love.
The light, beauty, and inspiration from this wonderful scenery I wanted to share with you all.

It was another 2-day trip this weekend 2.-3.9. The weather was quite warm for September / for these northern latitudes, but unfortunately without the sun.

Spirit of the north...
It was 2 days trip, last weekend. This is the very beautiful island famous as the site of the Konevsky Monastery. It is located off the southwestern shore of Lake Ladoga.
In the Middle Ages, the island was considered holy by the Finnish tribes who particularly revered a huge boulder in the shape of a horse's skull, weighing more than 750 tons.
This boulder is known as "Steed-Stone" and gives its name to the island.
Absolutely wonderful place with fantastic atmosphere. I fell in love with this place 😍 Also the weather was so warm +28C and it was awesome.

Konevitsa on ortodoksisesta Konevitsan luostarista kuulu saari Laatokan länsirannan tuntumassa Sortanlahden edustalla.
Luostarin perustamisesta kertovien lähteiden mukaan siellä oli karjalaisten pakanallinen uhripaikka Hevoskivi. Saaren nykyinen suomenkielinen nimi johtuvat Hevoskivestä tai ehkä saaren oletetusta alkuperäisestä karjalaisesta nimestä Hevossaari.
Munkkeja asuu saarella noin 20 henkeä.
Saarelle pääsee uudella katamaraanilla Sortanlahdesta (n. 15 minuutin matka).
