Ray Charles & Bo Diddley - Summer '19 Road Trip Ep 6

Episode 6 of our road trip is dedicated to Ray Charles and Bo Diddley! Greenville Florida is the hometown of Ray Charles.... Or "Rachel" as India calls him! While he is known for being born in Georgia, his mother was from this little town in northern Florida, after giving birth, she returned here to raise the young Ray. He grew up here until he lost his eyesight at age 7. He was then enrolled in the school for the Deaf and Blind in St Augustine, but visited his mother at their Greenville home regularly until she died, when he was 15. Greenville is so proud of everything Ray accomplished in music, they have erected a statue in his honor and you can tour the little house he called home (by appointment only) After exploring the hometown of one musical legend, we stopped by the grave of another. You might remember that we stayed in Bo Diddley's hometown in Mississippi, when we evacuated hurricane Irma. So it seemed fitting that we would stop by and pay our respects at his final resting place, Bronson Florida. This music is important to Mama and she was glad to share the history of some of her favorite artists with the kids. Thank you for watching Dear India Rose.
