Close to Ground Zero. If I could pick a little town to fall in love with, it would this one....there is a undefinable spirit here. Maybe it's that good ole Delta Blues.
This was after we had (finally!) parked, and started walking around the front of the new Tanger Outlets Southaven complex. Looks like a good bit of traffic was coming in from the south on Airways at the time, probably most of it from I-55. I kind of doubt I-55 ever got completely gridlocked for miles however, as many were predicting it would!

Clarksdale, Coahoma County, Mississippi. This little town on the Mississippi River is a great treat for fans of the Delta Blues style music. You can feel it in the town, even when it's closed on a Sunday. Morgan Freeman lives near here and is very much an advocate in promoting tourism in this beautiful part of North West Mississippi.
This view I believe is looking from the southeast tower toward the front of the future H&M store. H&M would finally open in the complex in early April 2016.

The Tanger Outlets Southaven Grand Opening series continues with yet another photo taken during the initial drive around the mall. This is the front middle sign tower, with a handful of the prominent stores (present and future) displayed. H&M and Coach are not expected to open until sometime in 2016.

This is a decidedly different version of the logo seen at the older Charming Charlie location at Carriage Crossing in Collierville: flic.kr/p/oDrGwa. Since they can't seem to figure out how they want the wording capitalized (first all caps for "Charlie", now no caps, sheesh!), I'm just going to quit trying to match the lettering style in my photo titles and descriptions!

Here's the large grand opening cookie cake: freshly baked at the time I would imagine, but seen by Retail Retell a couple of weeks later, assuming it was the same one that is! Oh well, everyone knows you should stick your cookie/cake in the microwave for 10-15 seconds to get it warm and gooey, then it don't matter so much how fresh it is!

WMC Action News 5 had their satellite truck set up on the southeast corner of the complex, very close to the News 3 truck I uploaded a photo of while I was actually at the grand opening. This was likely in anticipation of the 10 am ribbon cutting, which we unfortunately missed due to shopping :P

This was a view from later in the day, showing one of the nicest maurices store fronts I've ever seen. Maurices is located in the southeast area of the mall, near the play area. Yes, the mall even has a play area (photos to come) for kids!

This is the same tower I got a closeup view of and uploaded on grand opening day. The overhang for the play area can be partially seen in the right of this photo, and those one way signs returned for the weekend before Christmas, when we made a return visit to Tanger Southaven.

The Party Dogs snack stand can be seen beyond Kay Jewelers Outlet, at the end of the walkway. This is on the northwest end of the complex, and I didn't even notice the food truck was there until I spotted it in the photo many months later!

While Vf Corporation (profiled several photos back in the Tanger series) is one of the largest mainstream clothing and apparel entities around, the 50+ year old Nike Inc. holds that honor when it comes to sportswear and accessories. This location at Tanger Southaven was one of the last stores to be finished in the complex in preparation for opening day.

Well, going to the south entrance was no better after all! While the predicted mass traffic jam on the roads to Tanger never really came to pass (as far as I know), the drive around the building was a different story for the next several hours! It would be close to another 15 minutes before I would find one of the last remaining parking places on the south end of the mall.

These signs on the front of the Tanger Southaven complex more or less serve as advertisements, and by themselves provide no road map to get to the actual locations within. I reckon they figure most people will use an app or the touchscreen directory to find their way, or even (gasp!) go old-school and use one of the paper directories. Hope no one spent too much time looking for Coach or H&M, seeing how they weren't even open yet.

As stated at one of my photos I uploaded on Tanger Southaven grand opening day, traffic was set up to go only one way around the entire complex, which was a smart idea considering the huge influx of vehicles coming in. They had a lot of security personnel on hand as well to direct traffic, although you were on your own as far as finding a parking space! The lot was already 3/4 or more full by the time we arrived, and they had a good size gravel overflow lot set up as well for later on in the day.

At the time of Tanger Outlets Southaven grand opening, there must not have been a firm date in place for the Coach store opening. But rest assured, it has now opened, with the large electronic sign out front advertising this fact for seemingly weeks on end!
Update: H&M recently opened as well.

I was on the lookout for grand opening signage from individual stores, and surprisingly found there wasn't all that much. Here's another one from Kay Jewelers, which was already doing brisk business within the first hour of opening. And yep, we were one of the first 200 guests!

Another view of the News 3 truck, which despite the image of a helicopter on the side, the station no longer has a helicopter that I know of. The local Fox affiliate now has a drone however, which is just we need a Fox station to have!

Vf Outlet is a staple of outlet malls all over the place. The multi-billion dollar Vf Corporation (owner of more than 30 brands!) can trace it's roots all the way back to 1899, starting as the Reading Glove and Mitten Manufacturing Company in Reading PA. In 1969, Vf acquired the Lee Jeans brand, and has been gobbling up clothing and accessory brands ever since.

45 minutes before the ribbon cutting ceremony, people were already beginning to gather around the area. This took place out front of the mall, in front of the yet to open H&M store. No "common folk" were even allowed to go down that front section of the corridor in the mall until the ceremony was over!

There's likely a very good ulterior motive for Tanger Southaven having this "touristy" style of décor: they have a deal through the Mississippi Tourism Rebate Program, which allows them $34 million in sales tax rebates. So essentially, the first $34 million in sales tax goes right back to Tanger before the local economy sees any of it! Property tax is a different story, with that expected to be around $300k a year: paltry compared to that $34 million figure!

Even before Tanger Outlets Southaven could open, there was a change as far as Sunglass Hut was concerned. They opened another store at 1057 on the other end of the complex, seemingly at the last minute, since that location was originally intended to be branded as "Sunglass Warehouse": flic.kr/p/Bkeafp

The playground/play pavilion is situated at the southwest corner of the Tanger Outlets Southaven complex, and can be clearly seen from the northbound side of I-55/69 and the Church Rd. interchange. Prior to opening, I often wondered what the heck this big wooden structure was going to be, as I had a good view of it on my ride home from work every day. Evidently it's cool enough for someone (not me!) to videotape it as well!

Here's a "non-digital" version of the Tanger Outlets Southaven directory, as opposed to the large touchscreen version they have not far from shopper services! A good bit of the names should be legible if you zoom in, although some of them barely so. Airways Rd. runs at the top, above where it says "Center Map", with I-55/69 running on the other side of the mall. I tend to call it a "complex", and in this view one can see it's easily the size of large a 2-level mall. But with it all being on one level, the place feels quite massive!

Carter's Babies & Kids has the distinction of having two stores, literally a few blocks from each other in Southaven, as they elected to keep their older store open in Southaven Towne Center as well.
