Today Apple named their new OS El Capitan. Couldn't be happier to have these legendary National Park monuments valued and promoted for world to know about them. Almost five years back I didn't even know about Yosemite which is before I arrived to the US. My ignorance. But if you lived in a country right on the other side of the globe of the United States, its was not that big of a surprise. But now Apple putting them on the 'Map' makes it easier for the people everywhere to know and admire these legends.

This is the tunnel view of the valley, with El Capitan on the left and the Half dome peeping right in the middle across the valley. This is a very popular spot in the park but you can never have enough of them! :)

The Iguazu Falls, Iguazú Falls, Iguassu Falls, or Iguaçu Falls are waterfalls of the Iguazu River on the border of the Argentine province of Misiones and the Brazilian state of Paraná. They are the largest waterfalls system in the world. The falls divide the river into the upper and lower Iguazu. The Iguazu River rises near the city of Curitiba. For most of its course, the river flows through Brazil; however, most of the falls are on the Argentine side. Below its confluence with the San Antonio River, the Iguazu River forms the boundary between Argentina and Brazil.

The name "Iguazú" comes from the Guarani or Tupi words "y" , meaning "water", and "ûasú "[waˈsu], meaning "big". Legend has it that a deity planned to marry a beautiful woman named Naipí, who fled with her mortal lover Tarobá in a canoe. In a rage, the deity sliced the river, creating the waterfalls and condemning the lovers to an eternal fall.[3] The first European to record the existence of the falls was the Spanish conquistador Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca in 1541.

The legend of this fruit: The 'Crab Apple' got its name many many years ago. Infact it was shortly just after the wheel was invented sometime around my birth date. A farmer was sitting on a bale of hay when suddenly from out of the heavens a bright light caught his eye. He followed it to earth only to discover a 'Space Crab' perched on a tiny apple in his orchard. From that day to this the little apple is known as a 'Crab Apple' ..... or so the legend says :)

Drifting back into reality these are 'Crab Apple's', very small wild apple fruits, the largest apple is about 3/4 of an inch, beloved by Blackbirds especially and too sour for us humans to eat from the tree so is usually made into a jelly or a drink. Here they are on heavy textured paper illuminated from above and below using diffused LED lights.

A McDonnell Douglas/Boeing F-15E Strike Eagle from the 335th Fighter Squadron (335 FS) out of Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina launches from the South EOR during a Red Flag 16-1 sortie. In 1991, During Operation Desert Storm, this aircraft (89-0487) was credited with downing an Iraqi Mil Mi-24 Hind helicopter in the air using a GBU-10 laser-guided bomb. In 2012, this aircraft became the first F-15 of any type to log over 10,000 hours.

The Highway of Legends in Colorado is a scenic and historic byway that spans 82 miles through the San Isabel National Forest. It is a National Scenic Byway, National Forest Scenic Byway, and Colorado Scenic and Historic Byway. The byway showcases the unique geological features of south-central Colorado, including the Spanish Peaks, remnants of a 20-million-year-old volcano. It also features the famous Devils’ Stairsteps and Profile Rock.

In this scene the Aspens are in full color as we descend from 11,000 ft down the back side of the Spanish Peaks towards Cuchara ski area.

Standing resolute against time and carved by hands long turned to dust, the Citadel of the Mist clings to the cliffs. Legends tell of its final keeper, Bríghid, a widowed queen who ruled in solitude after the fall of her kingdom. Betrayed by her court, she stood alone to face an invading army.

But the invaders never attacked. On the eve of their assault, a storm swept through, shrouding the cliffs in impenetrable fog. Cries of anguish and terror echoed through the valley. When dawn broke, the soldiers were gone, their camp empty, the watchfires still smoldering.

Some say the mists rose to protect her; others claim Bríghid’s grief birthed a curse. Years later, villagers discovered the halls empty, untouched but for the throne and a silver crown resting upon it. To this day, the mist lingers, curling through the trees like an eternal lament. Stand still, they say, and you’ll hear her voice, soft, sorrowful, and forever alone.

At that time there was a royal tradition of kings hunting animals for sport. Once, the Iberian king Vakhtang I Gorgasali decided to go hunting with his falcon in the area surrounding today’s Tbilisi. While the king was looking for prey, he suddenly saw a pheasant. Acting quickly, he shot and wounded the bird. However, when he sent his falcon to retrieve the pheasant it didn’t return. After a long search the king and his army of hunters discovered some natural hot springs and found both birds boiled to death! King Vakhtang was surprised, but incredibly pleased, with the discovery of the natural hot springs as nobody had known about them before. So, he decided to build a city on this site. The location also had many other advantages. It was located between high mountains and was easy to protect from enemies. This, according to the legend, is how Tbilisi was founded

CANYONS OF THE ANCIENTS NATIONAL MONUMENT - COLORADO

Ute tribal legend describes the mountain as the great chief who fell asleep while recovering from wounds after a battle with the evil ones. View is from along the Sand Canyon Trail.

There is a legend related to Háifoss waterfall. It goes like this: "An ogress lived in Háifoss (which used to be called Fossárfoss before it got its name in 1912). She lived on trout, which she caught in the waterfall. Once a teenage boy travelling with other travellers threw a rock into the river. That night the ogress went to the tent, where the travellers were sleeping, and tried to pull the teenage boy by his legs out of the tent. But his mates pulled him in the other direction by the upper part of his body. After a lot of tussle the ogress let the boy go and went away, but the boy was bedridden for a whole month from this maltreatment". (Translated from the Folklore of Jón Árnason).

Haifoss waterfall, situated near the volcano Hekla in the south of Iceland. The river Fossá, a tributary of Þjórsá, drops here from a height of 122 m. This is the second highest waterfall of the island.

Crater Lake was once a full mountain by the name of Mount Mazama, which eventually collapsed into itself forming the lake we now know. The natives in this area were living here over 7,000 years ago, apparently . They witnessed the event and the legend has carried all the way to this day. Could you imagine what it is like to witness a mountain fall into the Earth? Especially with no scientific explanation at all? It would easily top the list of intense spiritual events of all human history.

When I visit an area for the first time, I often scout out every inch of it to find potential shots. Within the restriction of not damaging delicate terrain and vegetation of course.

This tree was my favorite tree in the whole area, which also had some sort of a separated view from the other trees. This one evening, I put all of my chips on sticking it out in this spot hoping the sun would shine through the thick clouds, and it paid off.

Thanks for looking!

Nordic Legends. Just offshore from the black sand beach in Vík, the basalt rock formations, Reynisdrangar, stick up out of the Atlantic like fingers. As the folklore goes, these spindly rock formations are actually trolls frozen in time. You see, trolls are night dwellers. They were trying to drag three ships ashore when they were caught in the sunlight and turned to stone. The world-famous Reynisfjara shore, near the village Vik in Myrdalur on Iceland's South Coast, is widely regarded as the most impressive shore in Iceland My 500 link 500px.com/yiannispavlis

This was shot a long time back when I went to visit him in Austin. The bridge at the background is the 360 loop bridge.

I know that technically this probably isn't up to scratch, but it does somehow capture what this place feels like. The loneliness of hills, forested bogland.

Another Hot Wheels car, a 1949 Ford F1 - which I've built in L*go a while ago.

Wasn't easy to shoot as the low sun was right behind be and I was casting huge shadows.
