Why does a kingsnake vibrate its tail? To advertise the end of the tail as the place for a predator to attack. That way, the snake can escape with its vitals intact, if not all of its tail, writes senior wildlife biologist John Jensen. John videoed this tail-shaking kingsnake as he moved it off a road in Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge last week. That background music? The rhythmic “Tequila,” of course. .
