CSX grain train G475 rolls past Georgia Powers Plant Bowen on its way to Rockmart,GA on the Cartersville Subdivision.
Cartersville to Rockmart, GA turn, A700, is seen returning to Cartersville after lawing out overnight in Rockmart. The Cartersville Sub west of Plant Bowen doesn't see much besides the 700 job and a sporadic grain train, so catching this train running out of its normal time slot was a nice treat.
January 11, 2019: A CEFX (CIT Rail Resources) leased AC4400CW GE engine leads 6 company units on Norfolk Southern Freight Train NS 322 (Macon, GA-Chattanooga, TN) as it glides down Braswell Mountain near Rockmart, GA on a mild Winter afternoon in NW Georgia.
August 2, 2020: Norfolk Southern Intermodal Train NS 26Q (Rossville, TN-Atlanta, GA) grinds up the Braswell Mountain grade with a company D9-40CW GE engine leading the Virginian Heritage Unit (SD70ACe EMD). This is one of those cases where the wrong engine was out in front, especially with it being such a well lit location!
CSX grain train G521 navigates the ups, downs, lefts and rights of this old SAL branch line that once connected the now non-existent Birmingham, AL - Atlanta, GA mainline to the L&N. This line only sees one local a day that runs to Cedartown and an occasional grain train for the mill in Rockmart.
November 20, 2018: A pair of Union pacific engines, lead by an AC4400CW GE unit, bring Norfolk Southern Intermodal Train NS 25Q (Atlanta, GA-Rossville, TN) down the Braswell Mountain grade near Rockmart, GA with some nice Fall scenery popping out in the late afternoon sun.

A train that I really miss seeing on the Norfolk Southern Railroad since it was abolished for this region, the Triple Crown "Roadrailer", seen here with a standard cab D9-40C leading the charge up the Braswell Mountain grade at Rockmart, GA. Notice the engineer is having some fun by wearing what looks like a wrestlers mask!
June 1, 2019: The Southern Railway heritage unit (ES44AC GE) leads Norfolk Southern Freight Train NS 361 (Chattanooga, TN-Macon, GA) up Braswell Mountain just outside of Rockmart, GA.

CSX L810 is southbound on the Cartersville Subdivision at Rockmart, Georgia, as NS 936 passes overhead on the Atlanta North District in December 2023. CSXT GP40-2 6394 is now known for its distinguished 1980's RF&P front end. 6394 was built as RF&P 142 in September 1972.

CSXT GP40-2 #6394 of RF&P heritage sits idle with CSX train L810 while the crew grabs a bite to eat at a nearby restaurant.
The Cartersville Sub local, A700, makes its way towards Rockmart as it runs alongside the old Seaboard era siding between Cedartown & Rockmart. Of note is 2559, originally built as Durham & Southern 2003, which still sports some of its as-delivered features, such as the original 1700 gallon fuel tank & lack of dynamic brakes. 6-29-20

CSX grain train G521 rolls west along the Cartersville Sub on its way to Rockmart, GA minutes after sunrise seen coming into rural Taylorsville, GA.
CSX L810 makes the approach to Rockmart to work Cagle’s Farm. Leading the way is the 4419, one of the few remaining EMD’s still on the roster in the YN2 paint scheme. Also on the point is James, the regular engineer on this job who’s very friendly & makes sure to put on a show at good locations when he sees people he knows, as seen here for me & another guy named Kyle. 10-23-23
