Butler Island started out the 2015-2016 waterfowl season with a respectable harvest. The 75 hunters harvested 198 ducks of nine species, including 98 green-winged teal, 62 blue-winged teal, and 18 ring necked ducks. Additional species harvested were mallard, mottled duck, gadwall, northern shoveler, wood duck, and scaup. In addition, two snow geese and a hand full of coots were taken. Considering the weather at the time, this was a successful hunt. As expected with the weather this past week, the Butler Island harvest dropped. Seventy-four hunters harvested 64 ducks and a handful of coots. Top species were again green-winged teal, blue-winged teal and ring necked ducks. Four other species were also harvested. Butler Island will be closed next Saturday, December 5, with the season closure and resume hunts on Saturday, December 12. .
