Barbaratoren in de Kuiperstraat is een rijksmonument. Het uurwerk heeft één wijzer en wordt misschien daarom ook Malletoren genoemd. De toren maakte deel uit van de afgebroken kapel van het Sint-Barbaragasthuis.
This is a street sign in Leidschendam, Zuid Holland, in an area that was a separate village called Veur. The street was given this name in 1970.
Veur was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1938. In 1938, Veur merged with the municipality of Stompwijk to form Leidschendam. It now forms the northwestern part of Leidschendam.
The website for the municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg gives the following explanation for the origin of the name “Fluitpolderplein”:
The square and adjacent streets between Prinsensingel, Noordsingel, de Amstelweg, and de Graaf Willem de Rijkelaan is called Fluitpolderplein. This was decided by in 1970.
But where does the “fluit” from Fluit Polder come from anyway? According to perhaps the most authoritative historian of Veur, Hendrik Brouwer Schut, it may have something to do with the whistle of the grinding mills, or possibly the Fluitenkruid (“Cow Parsley” or “Queen Anne's lace” in English). [The Dutch name of the plant refers to the fact a flute or whistle can be made from the stem.] However, there may be a better explanation. In 1648 a large part of the territory of the polder already belonged to a certain Jan Dirckxz, who also had a name on his [zondags – Sunday (?]), namely “Fluijt”. When the polder was enlarged in 1662, Jan Dirckxz or his father had almost half of the polder. The polder also needed to be drained and sources from 1641 say that the work was reserved for the mill (“genaempt the Fluijtermoelen”). "The mill was then back on the.called “Dobbe Wateringe”.
This photo was taken in Leiden, in Zuid-Holland. It was partly sunny when I made this photo. The prognosis was sunny and pleasant. I was cycling. Taken on Sunday, May 10, 2009 3:24:14 PM and context-tagged with IYOUIT.

Zuid-Holland - NL -
A favorite heritage is the steam-powered Heibok No.4. There have been dozens of these pile drivers/floating pile drivers in the Netherlands. They were used for various piling works from the water. They were used for small-scale work such as driving sheeting and scaffolding piles to large work for driving bridge piles and the like. The Heibok No.4 is the last remaining steam pile driver in the Netherlands and is managed by Stichting Calorische Werktuigen in Schiedam.
