If you're wondering, bZ equates to "beyond zero," as in zero emissions and represents an Earth-conscious ideology where carbon-free mobility and sustainable materials eventually become the norm. The compact SUV is slightly wider and longer than the RAV4 and stylistically differentiates itself with black fender paint no matter which of the five colors you choose. My Elemental Silver Metallic seemed to be the most fitting hue for the contrasting scheme. Toyota said the graphics also enhance the corners for a more dynamic appeal along with the EV's angular lines, good-looking alloys wheels, a tailgate spoiler, and black outlining. A fixed panoramic glass roof is refreshing, and SofTex fabric seats enlighten the cabin and thoughtfully replace the reliance upon leather.

It was a pure moment of reflection into the future of mobility as the emergence of electrification conversations continue to take precedence in an era of global warming and planetary resource depletion. Helping spearhead that charge is the luxury and performance-oriented EV startup Lucid Motors, with headquarters in Newark, CA, and a 500-acre plant in Arizona.
This past weekend I had a chance to test drive the Lucid Air Dream Launch Edition and experience the new Lucid Studio at Tysons Corner Center outside of the DC-metro area. It features a 4K Virtual Reality Experience Configurator for customers to personalize their vehicle from exterior hues to interior material selections, all inspired by and named after specific cities in California such as Santa Monica, Santa Cruz, and Tahoe.
I had the pleasure of a spirited test drive around Fairfax County in a 2022 Eureka Gold Lucid Air Dream Edition. Sorry, all 520 units have been claimed by forward thinkers! Expect a starting price of $169,900 and a blazing fast 2.42 second 0 to 60 mph time. The vehicle's design is exquisite and its performance is magnificent. Depending on packaging, the top output is an astonishing 1,111-horsepower and 520 miles of range with 19” wheels. Lucid was going for efficiency during the product planning process, but performance became the byproduct.
In addition to the Dream Edition, the Lucid lineup includes the $77,400 ($69,900 with available federal tax credit) Lucid Air Pure, the $95,000 Lucid Air Touring, and the $139,000 Lucid Air Grand Touring.

It was an exciting day tossing German machinery around the 1.6-mile, 14-turn Driver Development Track at the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta, GA. It provides advanced instruction for enthusiasts and features a Heritage Gallery, Classic Factory Restoration Workshop, Driving Simulator Lab, and a Personal Design Studio.

The Saturday morning youth soccer matches have resumed with the reduction and then removal of outdoor gathering limits now that more that half the adults in Michigan have been vaccinated for Covid-19. In this neighborhood elementary school almost all the cars burn fossil fuel. But here on the curb is a Tesla, probably from the recently opened dealership in Grand Rapids. Hopefully, during the next 5 years it will be common to see electric cars and trucks as often as the older petroleum-powered, legacy ones.

It was a glorious holiday weekend with both the weather and my means of dignified transportation represented by the 2024 Q8 e-tron, Audi's all-new, all-electric luxury SUV. The 402-horsepower Q8 e-tron is engineered with a dual electric motor setup, a 114 kWh battery, charging ports at the front, a RWD—biased quattro AWD system, and an EPA-estimated range of 285 miles. The automotive industry is currently embarking on a reflective journey where the ultimate goals are carbon neutrality and consumer electric vehicle (EV) education. Every manufacturer is now perpetuating this theme, from Rolls-Royce to Toyota, which launched its first electric RAV4 back in 1997. Therefore, with 22 years of experience in the category and a whopping 41% market share (including Lexus), the Japanese powerhouse is ahead of the curve from every perspective. Furthermore, with a $1.3 billion investment in new battery plants that will generate 1,700 jobs and 1.2 million EVs, Toyota is releasing another EV built in conjunction with Subaru, dubbed the bZ4X. No, that’s not an internal code, but the actual name of the vehicle.

14 June 1975, 4pm. The French flag was waved by Jean-Marie Balestre, then director of the FFSA, giving the start to the most legendary of endurance races, the 24 Heures du Mans. Among the 55 cars taking part, the public noticed an astonishing BMW 3.0 CSL, sporting an incredible livery. Behind the wheel was legendary auctioneer Hervé Poulain, a gentleman driver in his own right, who had commissioned the artist Alexander Calder, renowned for his revolutionary mobiles set in motion by the air, to paint his mount. Although the adventure ended on the 7th lap, the Art Car movement was born...
Peter Klasen, born in 1935, is a German artist associated with the New Figuration and Narrative Figuration movements. His work is characterised by a visual critique of industrial society, using elements drawn from advertising, industrial signage and medical images to explore themes of alienation and human isolation. Klasen, a graduate of the Berlin University of the Arts, often combines photography, painting and found objects in complex compositions that question the relationship between technology and humanity. His work provokes reflection on the impact of modernity on the individual, making him an important voice in European contemporary art. He mainly composes paintings that combine representations of industrial objects with details of the female body
Since the late 1990s, Peter Klasen has created a handful of Art Cars, including two Porsche racing cars (a 1998 GT2 and a 1965 911), two Ferraris and... a Tesla S. This Tesla S was commissioned in 2013 by a French gallery owner who loves Mecanic Art. Peter Klasen agreed to create the first Tesla Art Car for the exhibition of his new paintings, Inside Outside / Mecanic, for the Mecanica Gallery in Los Angeles in partnership with Heritage Classics. Coming from California, this Art Car, created in Peter Klasen’s workshop, was presented in front of the Mecanica Gallery on Rue de Verneuil in Paris before being flown to Los Angeles for exhibition. This unique work was also selected to participate with great success in the Dubai Art Show, as well as Chantilly Arts & Elegance. The S 85 is an iconic Tesla model from 2013, a large, luxurious car with a top speed of 225 km/h! This Art Car is sold with a series of special lithographs signed by Peter Klasen, as well as catalogues from his exhibition in Los Angeles.

When EV ‘retrofit’ conversions were authorised in France, in 2020, Renault became interested and partnered with R-Fit, a pioneer in the field, to develop kits to convert an ICE model into an electric car. The kits were sold by the Méhari Club de Cassis and were subsequently homologated for use on the road. One of them was for the Renault 5: developing 30bhp and keeping the original gearbox, it offered a range of 80km.
In 2022, Renault seized a double opportunity – on the one hand, its new partnership with the Roland Garros tennis tournament, and on the other, the 50th anniversary of the Renault 5 – to convert a few R5 GTLs into electric cars for use as official shuttles to transport players and members of the organising staff. The interior design was entrusted to Renault Design, who selected fabrics and materials regardless of cost.
This five-door R5 R-Fit thus has a number of special details which give it all its charm: the ‘tulip’ seats are trimmed in a very attractive grey flecked fabric with the tournament logo reproduced on the backrest, while the side storage compartments are made from a section of a real tennis net! It is even said that the netting came from a court at Roland Garros. The white paintwork, with body-colour bumpers, carries all the official tournament logos, while under the bonnet sits the electric motor, with a badge on top marked ‘Renault 5, 50’. With more than 5 million units sold, the Renault 5 counts among the company’s greatest successes, and with its popular and likeable image, it is highly regarded by collectors. This magnificently restored version with its unique finish wraps the charm of the original model in a zero-emission package which has the enormous advantage of being homologated for use on the road.
