Last year, a tiny Oregon company built an electric motorcycle, the 2010 Motoczysz E1pc and in june it beat every battery-powered bike in cycling's most important challenge: the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy Race. 134 hp, an oil cooled electric motor and a 12,5 kW/h lithium polymer battery pack. It was an exciting day tossing German machinery around the 1.6-mile, 14-turn Driver Development Track at the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta, GA. La MASSA CRÍTICA és un esdeveniment que es realitza cada mes a diferents ciutats del món. És una sortida mensual en bici per reclamar els drets del ciclista i promoure un model de ciutat sostenible. Tambè oberta a rollers, skaters i qualsevol altra forma de desplaçar-se que comparteixi aquesta idea.
No és una manifestació ni una organització, només persones, homes o dones, joves o gent gran anat en bicicleta. Tampoc és una cursa. És una manera d’establir un espai públic on les persones puguin reunir-se, i coneixe’s.
És reclamar aquell espai a la calçada que el cotxe ha usurpat en aquests anys.

La MASA CRÍTICA es un evento que tiene lugar todos los meses en numerosas ciudades del mundo. Es una salida mensual en bici para reclamar los derechos del ciclista y promover un modelo de ciudad sostenible. También abierta a skaters, rollers o cualquier otra forma de moverse que comparta esta idea.
No es una manifestación ni una organización, sólo personas, hombres o mujeres, jóvenes o personas mayores montando en bicicleta. Tampoco es una carrera. Es una manera de establecer un espacio público donde la gente pueda juntarse, reunirse y conocerse.
Es reclamar ese espacio en la calzada que el coche ha usurpado en estos años.

The automotive industry is currently embarking on a reflective journey where the ultimate goals are carbon neutrality and consumer electric vehicle (EV) education. Every manufacturer is now perpetuating this theme, from Rolls-Royce to Toyota, which launched its first electric RAV4 back in 1997. Therefore, with 22 years of experience in the category and a whopping 41% market share (including Lexus), the Japanese powerhouse is ahead of the curve from every perspective. Furthermore, with a $1.3 billion investment in new battery plants that will generate 1,700 jobs and 1.2 million EVs, Toyota is releasing another EV built in conjunction with Subaru, dubbed the bZ4X. No, that’s not an internal code, but the actual name of the vehicle.

When EV ‘retrofit’ conversions were authorised in France, in 2020, Renault became interested and partnered with R-Fit, a pioneer in the field, to develop kits to convert an ICE model into an electric car. The kits were sold by the Méhari Club de Cassis and were subsequently homologated for use on the road. One of them was for the Renault 5: developing 30bhp and keeping the original gearbox, it offered a range of 80km.
In 2022, Renault seized a double opportunity – on the one hand, its new partnership with the Roland Garros tennis tournament, and on the other, the 50th anniversary of the Renault 5 – to convert a few R5 GTLs into electric cars for use as official shuttles to transport players and members of the organising staff. The interior design was entrusted to Renault Design, who selected fabrics and materials regardless of cost.
This five-door example, finished in an extremely stylish dark blue, has a unique orange trim for the ‘petal’ seats, carpets, door cards and even the sun visors, with a dark blue headlining with a black pattern. An elegant multi-coloured stripe runs along the top of the door cards. Externally, the body carries all the official markings of the tournament, while under the bonnet sits a working electric motor, with a badge on top marked ‘Renault 5, 50’. This is a great opportunity to acquire a version of the Renault 5 which is rare, exclusive and attractive, and, moreover, homologated for use on the road.

Moreland Council is driving a transition to zero emissions in it's heavy vehicle fleet by piloting a hydrogen fuel cell technology for it's fleet of garbage trucks, which will be driven by a renewables powered hydrogen plant at it's Hadfield depot. This will result in zero emissions, less diesel pollution, reduced noise, and long term fuel cost savings. The Andrews state Labor Government has contributed $1 million to the development of this zero emissions fleet pilot program.

Lelystad is another city in Holland where battery-electrics dominate its urban bus network. They are BYD models, largely of the type shown here but also with a few shorter examples to be seen. All carry this rather uninspiring white-based livery with RRReis branding, and they are seemingly operated by Keolis Nederland. The K9UB is a more recent type from BYD and I believe was designed specifically for the European market, but at least a couple of panels below the window line on this one look rather suspect for something only a handful of years old. Bus 2070 is working a 7 trip to Lelystad Airport.
The Skanetrafiken urban bus fleet in Lund, 12 miles or so north of Malmo in southern Sweden, looks to have been fully electrified with the MAN Lion's City E in both standard and articulated format, and the network looks to be well used. Modern vehicles, electrified, integrated ticketing with rail... all the kinds of things that as a collective largely elude the UK, and the difference is most noticeable. Here bus 1803 passed Lund Central Station working a 4 trip to Gunnesbo.
Thoughts on the all-electric VW ID. Buzz touring van? Pretty cool. But don't expect an arrival anytime this year in the US. They are forecasting 2024 for the rear-wheel drive, 5-passenger van.

Dins de les activitats dels 30 dies en bici Barcelona, els fotògrafs Xavi Calvo @calvox i Sergi Periche @sergiperiche ens unim per realitzar un projecte fotogràfic anomenat 'Retrats ciclistes' on descubrirem diferents perfils de persones ciclistes, on la bici gira al voltant de la seva vida, ja siguin ciclistes de tota la vida o de fa un any, urbans o esportius, mes o menys actius, sense importar sexe o edat.

Hoy nos citamos con Patricia Folch en el Parc del Fòrum. Patricia, de 39 años, lleva diez años dedicándose al marketing digital, actualmente trabaja en ‘Masvoz.
Patricia era runner popular y había llegado a correr medias maratones y le diagnosticaron un cáncer de mama muy agresivo además de tener la mutación genética PALB2 que aumenta el riesgo de sufrir esta enfermedad. Cada vez hay más voces de que hacer deporte es muy recomendable para enfermos en tratamiento oncológico y seguir practicando deporte durante la quimio le ayudó mucho a sobrellevar la enfermedad y sus efectos secundarios.
Después de una doble mastectomía con reconstrucción, tenía permiso de los médicos para correr la Behobia de San Sebastián, que tenía entre sus retos personales. Y se convirtió en la primera mujer en correr esta carrera en menos de un año de recuperación, superando además su marca personal.
Adicionalmente le propusieron participar en el estudio PREDICOP para mujeres que han sufrido cáncer de mama y ver a largo plazo si con el deporte y una buena alimentación bajan las recidivas. Este fué su primer contacto con el ciclismo. Junto con Albert, de Ride For Her, quieren demostrar que mujeres que han recibido tratamiento oncológico puedan mejorar su calidad de vida con el ciclismo. Después de hacerle unas fotos por el parque, buscamos un rincón resguardado del viento -hace fresco- rincón donde nos empieza a explicar su impresionante historia.
1.- ¿Que es para ti la bicicleta?
Es un nuevo reto. Tuve una caída con las calas, así que por un lado el reto es no caerme jajaja. Es diversión, es un deporte muy divertido. Te mueves por paisajes que con el running no llegaba. Sobretodo eso: un reto personal y diversión
2.- ¿Te ha ayudado hacer ciclismo en tu evolución?
Tanto psicológicamente como físicamente, sí. Cuando hice la Behobia me pasó que me quedé sin retos y me dió un bajón. ¿Y ahora qué hago? Y la bicicleta es un nuevo reto. Empiezas un nuevo deporte. Es muy divertido, muy buen ambiente y el equipo de Ride For Her es espectacular. Yo que vengo del running encuentro que el ciclismo es más saludable que hacer un deporte con tanto impacto.
3.- ¿Ibas en bici antes?
Aprendí a ir en bici sola con 5 años. Estaba en el pueblo con mi mejor amigo y dije “Yo quiero!” Y mi padre me quitó los ruedines. Me caí un par de veces. Y recuerdo que mi madre me hizo un colacao y me dijo que me iba a ayudar. Y nos pasamos toda la noche con la familia montando en bici. Tengo ese recuerdo. Luego aquí en Barcelona tengo una mountain bike y si que la utilizo, voy mucho por el Besós.
4.- ¿Hablando de movilidad, la usas ahora para desplazarte?
Antes utilizaba el bicing. Me parece una buena idea para moverse por la ciudad. Con el trabajo que tengo ahora quiero hacerme del bicing otra vez.
5.- Nos has explicado qué Ride For Her contactó contigo. ¿Como fué?
Todos los supervivientes de cáncer, de alguna manera, nos acabamos contactando por redes sociales y les habían comentado que estaba en el estudio Predicop y les interesaba mucho conocer este estudio, como funcionábamos. Además la unidad genética de la Vall Hebrón, capitaneado por la doctora Balmaña, nos han ofrecido toda su ayuda. Albert, de Ride For Her me contactó para saber cómo funcionaba el estudio y me ofreció pertenecer a la asociación. En ese momento buscaba nuevos retos y me fue muy bien.
6.- ¿Conocías la iniciativa de 30 días?
Estuve en el acto de presentación en Volata que fue donde conocí en persona a Albert y Carol de Ride for Her.
7.- ¿Que te parece la iniciativa?
Tenemos que normalizar el uso de la bici y despenalizar. Cómo explicarlo... Yo, por ejemplo, hoy en día desconozco la normativa entera del ayuntamiento de Barcelona respecto a las bicis. Entonces es una forma de normalizar, concienciar, que se vea como una solución, que todavía hay mucho conductor que cree que la carretera es suya. Una manera de buscar el respeto al ciclista. Y además es sostenible.
8.- ¿Cómo ves la convivencia con otros medios de transporte?
Veo muy mal la convivencia. Tengo miedo de lo que veo: el odio. Sobretodo en la ciudad. Afortunadamente cada vez veo más ciclistas que respetan las normas de circulación. Pero los conductores no tienen en cuenta al ciclista, que es más débil. Eso es lo que me da miedo. De todas maneras tengo la esperanza que todo esto se vaya normalizando y que el transporte público y transporte sostenible vaya ganando terreno al vehículo privado. Pero hay cierta resistencia al cambio.
También soy motera, me gusta ir en moto, pero cada vez la cojo menos. Ahora hay una nueva normativa del ayuntamiento que también quiere restringir el uso de motos contaminantes. Y creo que estamos en un momento que hay que pensar también en las motos eléctricas, en el vehículo eléctrico. Entonces, en lugar de pensar que estamos en un momento de cambio, que vamos a pasar del motor de combustión al eléctrico, hicieron una manifestación. No le encuentro la lógica. Te estás manifestando porque tu vehiculo es contaminante y no te van a dejar seguir contaminando. Yo no lo voy a apoyar. Hay que quitarse esa resistencia al cambio. Estamos viviendo una época de cambio de cómo vemos la movilidad y las ciudades. Barcelona se está adaptando a esta nueva ideología de movilidad. Más sostenible, respetar más al peatón, creación de carriles bici y tenemos que adaptarnos a estos cambios. Ya se ha acabado un poco la “autoarquía”, la dictadura del motor. Días que cojo la moto al final te vas peleando con todo el mundo y hoy que hemos cogido la bici para venir aquí, pues me ha sentado bien. Por ejemplo en mi empresa, hay muchos compañeros que van en bici y nos han puesto duchas.
9.- ¿Ahora tienes solo la mountain bike?
Bueno tengo la mountain bike y Cicles Pagés me hizo el favor de dejarme una de carretera. Ellos querían colaborar con Ride For Her y me han dejado esta bicicleta. Así cuando hacemos salidas de carretera pedo ir.
10.- ¿Por qué has escogido este sitio?
Porque yo entreno por aquí. Se que la vuelta entera son 800 metros. Tengo subidas y bajadas, escaleras para cuando tengo que hacer ejercicios de fuerza y a parte tienes todo el tema de las vistas, que están muy guapas. Y mucha tranquilidad. Para mi es ideal. Es mi zona.
11.- ¿Cómo te imaginas de aquí dos años con la bicicleta?
De momento me conformo con seguir haciendo rutas y tengo pendiente no caerme con las calas.... (risas) Pero vamos, de aquí dos años me veo petándolo con la bici, así de claro. Haciendo una carrera guapa com una Quebrantahuesos!
