The fastest electric car on the market
Elegant, electrically powered sports roadster by the American marque Baker, which at the time was one of the largest producers of electric city cars in the US. With this model Baker tried to make his electric cars look like the petrol-powered competition. The radiator however had no function and the batteries were located in the front under the ‘bonnet’. The floor-mounted dashboard was made up of one Volt and one Ampere gauge. The battery charger can also be seen here.
Walter Baker started working with electric motorcars as early as 1893 and set up his own company in 1899. Although he was successful initially, the popularity of the electric car waned due to the rapid development of the internal combustion engine. The invention of the electric starter, for example, made cranking a thing of the past. Baker halted the production of electric cars in 1916.

Stagecoach London's Barking Depot celebrated 100 Years with a Depot Open Day on 23/03/2024 in support of MacMillan fundraising. with Open-platform buses with real conductors running a Heritage Service between Redbridge and Dagenham (Route 145), and between Chadwell Heath and Barking (Route 62).
Buses used were the iconic RT-type, which in the 1950s formed the largest standardised bus fleet in the world, plus their successor the Routemaster. Route 62 from Barking Garage [BK] was the last route to operate the RT-type, and the very last RT in London Transport service turned into the garage on 7th April 1979.
There was also more modern types, albeit long-gone from London streets. A very special visitor with be the Museum's wartime Guy Arab G351 running on the 145.

The phrase ‘Clear Vision’ in this Detroit Electric’s name refers to the extra flip-up windscreen, which afforded the minimum of protection in rainy weather, ensuring good vision on the road.
It is interesting to note the dual controls and levers; the car could be driven from both the front and the back seats. The batteries are stored in the boot at the rear of the car.
The 160 km range was very competitive so it was not surprising that the Detroit Electric became one of the market leaders in electric cars in the US at the beginning of the 20th century. Around 1910 the annual production was approximately 1,500 cars.
Unlike most manufacturers of electric cars, Detroit Electric managed to hold out until the mid 1930s, thanks to the production of delivery vans for bakers and milkmen.

This exact replica of his “35” racing car was made in 1927 at Ettore Bugatti’s Molsheim works in Alsace for his son Roland. With its electric engine and top speed of 15-20 km/h, it proved an excellent advertising gimmick and about ninety were eventually produced.

The versatility of the Clipper project is illustrated by the Ducati version. In this “vanette” version, Clipper features doors of a different design and a slightly different C-pillar compared to the original outfit.
This variant is dedicated to Ducati, one of the most prestigious Italian brands, famous around the world, which together with Audi, Lamborghini and Italdesign Giugiaro, makes up the Audi Group.
The livery thus sports the official Ducati colours and graphics in a tribute to the imminent world championship season.
The Italdesign Giugiaro style centre has also designed an original towing trailer for the Ducati Panigale 1199 S which complements the style and performance of all models to leave the Borgo Panigale plant: a good omen for a year of even better results.
