In use with Postbus in Graubunden canton in Switzerland are a number of battery-electric Scania Citywide models. There will be no more, as Scania has ended production of the Citywide with its move away from producing complete buses. Nevertheless, these are nice looking vehicles. Here one of them is seen in Chur carrying the traditional yellow-based livery. Seemingly these buses use opportunity charging via inverted pantograph to top-up the batteries as required.
Zero emission and almost 60 years of age. This modified 1957 VW T1 bus started a new life with his electric engine and began to be part of the Dutch street scene sice 2011.
Bijna 60 jaar oud en toch volkomen emissievrij. Deze VW-bus uit 1957 begon werkelijk een nieuw leven na zijn verbouwing tot 100% elektrisch. Hij begon zijn nieuwe leven in Nederland in 2011.

Optare launched its Metrodecker integral way back in 2014, but it is only much more recently that any traction has been gained with orders and deliveries. The battery-electric Metrodecker EV variant is by far the most common, with a handful of London operators having taken it. Tower Transit is among them, and here OE34002 (YJ70 EVC) is seen working a journey to Westbourne Park on route 23. Optare zero-emission products now come under the Switch Mobility umbrella. It was created not long ago to capture all such technology from both Optare and the Sherburn-in-Elmet firm's owner Ashok Leyland.

The Wrightbus StreetDeck Electroliner has come into favour for battery-electric double-deck requirements on the franchised Bee Network in Greater Manchester. Go North West is in the process of receiving some that will include higher-specification examples for the Vantage bus rapid transit routes, but alongside them are standard examples. Allocation of them, as with other zero-emission buses, is largely tied into the city region's Clean Air Plan and the need to address certain areas of poor air quality. Here 2151 (MF26 EBL) is seen almost at journey's end at Shudehill interchange while working a journey on route 10 from Brookhouse.

As would be expected, the VDL Citea continues to have a prominent place in the Dutch bus market, with the domestically-built model in its latest-generation form already present in various fleets. Operator EBS Zaanstreek-Waterland has a large number of them in use, most (if not all) at 13.5m in length on two axles as the LE-135. Here 4309 (91-BXX-9) is seen at Hoorn while working a 314 trip to Amsterdam Centraal. This is an interurban route, and its working with battery-electric buses perhaps illustrates how that technology has advanced in recent years.

The Electric Buses which are imported from China are starting to take to the streets of Falkirk where rival UK Bus Building Firm (Alexander Dennis Ltd) is considering closing it's factory in Camelon and Larbert in order to consolidate it's operations which may lead to hundreds of staff being made redundant if this happens.
UK & Scottish Government are working closely with Alexander Dennis Ltd to ensure this does not happen and talks were held this week with plans of a 10 year pipeline in UK Zero-Emission Bus Orders as reported by Route One Magazine: www.route-one.net/news/ten-year-pipeline-of-uk-zero-emiss...
It has also been reported that Alexander Dennis Ltd has placed it's Falkirk Factory Site up for sale: www.thenational.scot/news/25358875.alexander-dennis-puts-...

As most of us know, the 9.5m Metrocities Stagecoach inherited from Tower Transit debuted on 29/07/23, with a full conversion on the first day - which is quite impressive, as all now we're waiting for abellio to fully convert the 322 - and then it semi-reverted to half diesel and half metrocity for the next few days, but it went back to fully electric fairly quickly (with guest 39139 on select days). These are also the first 9.5m examples of this bodywork I'm sure.
These Metrocities have had quite a smooth roll-out from the public eye. There were a few breakdowns in the first week, but that happens with pretty much every new bus now, it feels like.
I took a ride on them and they're quite nice. In my opinion, there's only a few things I'd change. For example, the seating choice doesn't feel quite right for a high specification, but I understand that it was Tower Transit who chose them and not Stagecoach. The second thing is the interior handrails in the buggy area. If you look closely here, you'll see that it's got a glass panel from top to bottom in the buggy area, and I've found that buggy users have difficulties with it juggling their buggies when that screen is there, but apart from those two things, they're really great buses, and hopefully we get more 9.5m examples in the future.
This vehicle is based at Stagecoach Lea Interchange (LI) for their 339 service. it was originally Tower Transit's OE31507 but they sold their East London operations to Stagecoach, who inherited this order in.

In Chesterfield bus/coach station Derbyshire a stranger in town and far away from home. This was originally an Alexander Dennis E40 Enviro400hybrid that was later converted to electric power by Magtec of Rotherham. The bus was at the facility for, as the driver said "had its gubbins stripped out and overhauled". With said 'gubbins' replaced the bus was out on a full day trial around South Yorkshire and Derbyshire, with a stop off in the bus/coach station for a while.
