South of Werris Creek, the daily Armidale/Moree Xplorer works as a combined train to/from Sydney. At Werris Creek station the train splits, with the longer part continuing to Tamworth and Armidale as NP23 and the shorter part continuing to Narrabri and Moree as NP43.

Two Xplorer sets sit side by side at Central. The set alongside platform 1, on the left of the image, has completed a journey from the state's north west. The other set is preparing to depart to Canberra.

The Xplorer from the north west originates from two different locations and amalgamates en route to Sydney. The two cars closest to the clocktower originate from Moree, while the four cars closest to the camera have arrived from Armidale.

While this may be a common scene today, a new regional fleet is expected to enter service in the coming years. An order has been placed for new regional trains which are set to replace the Xplorers.

My friend Jonny Hirons has started a new challenge for this month called ABC (Alphabet By Camera), I think his project will be very interesting and amusing so I've decided to join him rapresenting my own language, the Italian.

If you would like to join us you could see Jonny's project here... www.flickr.com/photos/jonnyhirons/6305073635/ in/photostream.

NSW TrainLink EC2524 (ABB "Xplorer" DMU) is seen leading the weekday Griffith Xplorer service towards Sydney. The Griffith service is now twice weekly with the other services running on a Saturday and Sunday; the service also amalgamates and divides with the Canberra Xplorer service at Goulburn forming a 5 car set between Sydney and Goulburn.

After dropping passengers at the platform SL61, a NSW Rail Transport Museum tour, shunts to the mainline to cross XP22 the up Canberra Xplorer at Bungendore on 7th December 2002. The tour was promoted to have quad 44 class but as only 3 44 class were available on the day the Museum's 4803 and 4916 are assisting 4461, 4458 and 4490.

Xplorer was apparently a conversion company that started out in the late 1960s. This one has apparently been in the UK since 1992 and it is still taxed and MoTed.

First West of England - Mendip Xplorer - Wrightbus Eclipse 69445 (WX59BYY) stands at Midsomer Norton towards the end of its journey from Bath to Paulton. Behind me was a fantastic little model shop called 'Signals'. I would've liked to have spent a while in there, but I ended up having to rush in and out in 10 minutes so that I could catch my next bus!

The lone passenger waiting at Tarago Station for SP34 watches with idle curiousity as CLP12 leads 3M25 empty ballast into the loop. This will allow SP34 to pass through on the way to Sydney. As Tarago is known as an "a stop", the Canberra trains will only stop here if required to pick up or set down passengers. To the south of the station is the Crisps Creek Intermodal siding for the transfer of garbage containers from Sydney to the nearby Woodlawn Mine site.

Over the weekend of 16-17 March 2024, SSR and UGL dropped ballast on the Canberra line between the regular Xplorer services.

The train featured CLP12 and B75 at the country end, with GM22 and GM10 at the Sydney end. Once the ballasting was completed, the train was remarshalled in Goulburn Yard and the empty wagons transited to Temora on the Sunday evening.

The CountryLink service from Sydney to Armidale and Moree rolls through East Maitland. Taken during the period when the Xplorer cars were being overhauled, both colour schemes are on display here. The front three cars will continue to Armidale from Werris Creek, whilst the rear two will go to Moree on the branch.
