Chloe took this picture with the remote from my camera. She was waiting not-so-patiently for the waitress to bring her another juice.

The single parenting of a little girl about to enter into pre-adolescence really is starting to have its challenges. I'm starting to discover that there are issues coming up that I really don't have the answer for. I've noticed lately slightly more defience and rebelious behavior that just didn't occur when she was younger.

Boy I'm in for a ride.

I'm trying to figure this out. It really can be tricky. I hope I'm doing it right.

See when I say "right", I mean when she leaves my "nest" upon growing up that she has been provided with everything from me to do so. You know things like being full of life, confidence, positive energy and general world common sense. Sadly, the large majority of people I meet in my life usually lack many or all of these things. Hell I lack some of that myself at times.

It's of great importance for me that I make sure she has good manners and respects other people. I try to show her that it is important to only judge other people on how they treat HER and not what they look like or from what other say about them second hand.

I tell her she is pretty all the time because... well she is. In fact, I tell her she's the prettiest in the whole town because... well fuck it why not, she probably is. Girls need to hear that shit.

I tell her she is the smartest in her class. And that she needs to SHOW it and set the example. Homework and school work in general is of #1 concern for her and the #1 thing in her life.

Things like cheating, lying, and being sneaky I have put at my #1 hit-list of things I pound in her head that I will not tolerate. I think I even told her I "hate" people like that. That's a bit much but I think she got the point.

Then there are things like patience, carelessness, and getting annoyed easily which come hard to her (especially with her being a child). These are some of my own personal struggles as a freaking adult. I feel like the pot calling the kettle black when I get mad at her for something dealing with these things.

Presumably out of goodwill, Gemini 37633 on the 18 for Dyce stops on Market St stop. The gap is large for the 18, no stops between Music Hall and Adelphi now.

At the weekend it was one half of id-iom's 40th so we set about celebrating in style with some live acts and a dj. Whilst most people had a great time, things got a little messy for others. This is the case for this poor wastrel who after too much fun washed down by too many drinks went just a little crazy. We lost him till just yesterday when I saw him stumbling through the studio door gasping for water. After rehydrating him I advised him to sit out side in the sunshine to get his vitamin D levels up. I think he's okay. Only time will tell...

Cheers

The other Leyland Titan present on Lothian's open day was fleet 480, part of the first batch of 100 delivered to Central garage in 1954 and subsequently moved to Longstone. It took a significant part amongst other vintage buses on service 26 although the Joppa screen was in use years ago for buses on service 15 ! 480 is seen here having escaped the huge traffic jam around what was London Road roundabout.

A few anecdotes from the Titan's journey:

Wee boy: 'Hey was this thing really a bus' !

Girl to passenger: 'Where's Joppa is it near Brunstane Road South' ? Passenger: 'Bingo' !

Group of boys looking at 'new' Edinburgh tram: 'Aww look at that its an auld bus with nae wheels' (I've omitted exactly what was said before the word wheels! )

Man to conductor: 'It says Regent Road on your screens so why are we in London Road?' No answer to that as not only was he correct but the 26 for many years (quite rightly) did go by Regent Road, Council please note - much time and fuel could be saved !

While my daughter and I were out joyriding yesterday, this set of power stopped right next to our car at the Vancouver, Washington Amtrak station. The units were waiting for marine traffic on the Columbia River to clear, so the drawbridge would close. Rumor has it that numerous Canadian National locomotives have been seen locally on BNSF in recent days.

A car had slid off of the road and on to main one. The owners were fine and was removed 10 minutes later. This NS train passed on main two with a head end restriction.

Running out of new images (need to get out for the day with the camera) so looking back through some older stuff. This was taken in Camden Town last summer. This guy had the board the wrong way round and the tattoo shop was actually to the right. I only noticed the board was the wrong way round later in the day when I was going through the images on the camera. Would've made an even better shot had I noticed before I took it and got the shop in as well.

This here is a hip shot fail. Why, you ask, would somebody who tirelessly ridicules hip shooting on the regz post a hip shot of my own? Well, I think it is illustrative of my disdain for the practice. First of all, the only reason I shot this from the hip is these two twin bitties are my neighbors. They know me, and recognize me, and I didnt feel comfortable shooting them on their way back from the eye hospital, so I chicken shitted out and took a sneak shot. Does it look it? I think so. It certainly isnt any good. Now I can rationalize like the best of them. The tilt is reminiscent of GW. The 28mm wide angle lens on my (borrowed) LEICA M2 is very suited to this "style" of shooting. I am experienced enough with this lens to have a good idea of what the camera is seeing, even as I am looking away, twiddling some nobs and pretending there is something interesting beyond the ladies.

The truth is, this is what hip shooting gets you: Nothing special. Nothing to really call your own. At best a happy accident, but in most cases, not even. There is no connection between the subject and photographer, because no connection was made. This topic is now open to discussion. Adherents to the technique please speak up!
