I wasn't expecting to see THE 3985 on my lunch break this afternoon but I did see it in the form of a BNSF ET44C4 leading CSX K803. Being that there was some sun, the locomotive was clean and there's this cool thing called 'digital photography', I decided to snap a couple shots of my first Tier 4 gevo. Perhaps it'll be worth something in 20 years when the gevos are being phased out by even more stupid engines.

Well, more zone blanc than zone rouge, you might say! Anyway, the morning dawned with a glorious sky, the air was clear, and it was satisfyingly crisp and crunchy underfoot – so all in all, a perfect and picturesque winter’s day.

NR26 and DL41 lead 6AS8 Indian Pacific through Platform 2 at Homebush Station. I've not posted a black and white shot in some time, but the constrast here due to textbook "wrong lighting" made it too hard to resist. I don't believe B/W should be used as a "crutch", but sometimes it can make a shot work, when normally everything says it wouldn't.

Taken last year on plaza Campo San Barnaba in Venice, Italy. I know the shot is not perfect, picked the wrong aperture and didn't get much in focus, but somehow like it anyway :-)

The sun has just set, and the Belt of Venus appears over the Mojave Desert. This oblique angle on a dry lake bed looks dull and flat. To see what's out here you have to get up high and look down.

As one would expect on any trip in which I was involved, the sun only came out in Wales when we didn't want it.
After yesterday's rubbish news, I needed a giggle so stopped on my way home from the gym. I thought of this spot a few months back but tonight's fog and relatively dry ground it was perfect. A one shot wonder too.
